If you do it right, your keyboard will be much more usable. I'm typing this post on my Vogue right now.

with a fresh install of android 1.1, I notice that when i go into settings it says the the device memory is only 24MB. does anyone elses phone have such a low memory showing for there device. i dont have anyother programs installed on the wm side just factory stuff and prior to running android i have over 110MB of memory on my device.

I think it has to do with either how Android handles its data (in image form) or I remember reading something about more memory being allocated to the GPU with the latest update(s).

The screen calibration works fantastically. Which leaves me with only one serious problem before android becomes my full time O.S for my phone.

BATTERY LIFE.

Any tips and or tricks that help preserve it? I basically get half of my normal battery, maybe even less some times.

try using a good ROM and using Togga to disconnect data when not needed.. Mine lasts all day

Yeah, if you arent using your phone (say at work) i would turn off the data. Push kills any battery. (im not sure if its actual push, but i get my gmail almost instantly. and sometimes before it shows on my browser.)
