I noticed this as well, have no clue as how to fix it though.

There are 2 possible solutions, if I understand you correctly.... 1) You can type a portion of the name you want and then select the partial word by clicking on it just above the keyboard. That will copy the text into the blank... 2) If you go under the help/options tab on th keyboard you'll see an option to "Display default wor candidate inline". This will actually turn on the typing in the "To" field as you type the characters. Keep in mind, though, that you'll probably want to use the Precise text entry mode. Can can either select precise mode in the options menu which will turn it on all the time, or you can simply swipe each letter completely as you type it so the predictive text doesn't have to guess which letters you're typing. For example...you would want to type swip to the right on "g h" key to insure that TP sees it as an H instead of G if you were to send something to Haggard, for example... Does that help? Or am I missing something? I tried it on mine and with the default SMS program I was able to type a partial name and it would find them in the address book... |

Here's a temporary workaround from Cootek forum.....
You must be using version 2-02.............
The fastest way I have now been able to enter names for texting on v.2 is to type in the first three or four letters (i do not use precise mode) press the space key so the field populates and then press the menu key and "check names" A couple of extra steps but I have found it does work for both single names and multiple names provided you separate them with a semi-colon. compliments of shackk on the cootek forums....Cootek has acknowledged the problem and is supposedly working on a fix |

I just can't fathom what problems that people are saying they are having with the Touchpal, especially the latest version. It works fine for me. It works with precise mode and non-precise mode. I get the list of people when I type the first letter. But maybe because I'm also using the Palm threaded SMS. There might be some incompatability with the touchpal and what u r using for texts.

Ok. I went ahead and backup'd my Sprint Touch. I restored only my contacts and tried the default SMS that comes with the touch; it indeed showed one name and as your scroll down you get more that match the letter that you entered. Then I installed touchpal and tried typing the first letter using the default SMS and nothing. I tried 3-4 letters nothing. I then installed Palm threaded SMS that I use and tried to fill the To: field and it works on the first letter!! So this leads me to believe that the Touchpal has something wrong with the default SMS that comes with the Sprint Touch, but works if you are using the Palm threaded SMS.

The threaded SMS program might have its own built in search function for contacts. But there is a fix coming out from Cootek to correct this?

They have acknowledged the problem.....hopefully there will be a fix for it......they have already updated touchpal 2.0 twice......they seem to be eager to make everyone happy...hopefully it does get updated soon...they post update information on their blog http://www.cootek.com/blog/
