Wifi... yes or no...

Can anyone shed any light on the matter of Wifi? To be or not to be?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345167

The last couple of pics show an antenna jack, that lacks an antenna plugged into it.

By this time after the Iphone was released, it was disected and every part was known...

Nada. The qualcomm processor has WiFi support, but the Touch is the CDMA version AKA the Vogue, which was released in Europe this summer and has no WiFi. What I find interesting is the reference to AGPS, which would indicate no onboard GPS. This would limit you to using Telenav or a similar AGPS program for GPS. I'd be personally quite surprised if anybody finds anything. Of course I'd also be glad to take one apart and have a look-see, but I don't see anyone offering one up for the chopping block either

So what is the empty antenna jack for, just above the camera lens when you have the back cover off? Any facts on that? Really curious about that...

Thanks!

A lot of devices have these, it looks to be for a CDMA extended/external antenna. My Centro has a rubber cover that removes to connect just that, which is what I believe those photos refer to. But I'm 99% sure it's not related to Wifi. A Wifi antenna, honestly, is just a thin, tiny piece of metal--you'd barely notice it.

These terms overlap quite a bit. The HTC Kaiser and BJ II are technically aGPS (gpsOne) yet they are advertised as "GPS". The reason for that is aGPS *can* do standalone mode i.e. only satellite, no server/tower assistance. So aGPS can encompass regular GPS and go further with server-side assistance for faster signal acquisition and data analysis. I don't think Sprint is locking down the GPS to just Telenav, like AT&T did with the BJII. There is nothing though about aGPS particularly that prevents it from not using TomTom, Live Search, etc. That is carrier choice.

The Moto Q q9c already does GPS on Sprint and although I don't know the chipset, it's most likely the same Qualcomm one as the Mogul and Touch (which btw, both have internal GPS antennas as well). BTW, the Sprint Q q9c can do GPS and Google Maps, so it looks to have ports open/listed for use in other programs and is not "locked".

Re: the question of Wifi, if the hardware is there (on the chipset), it will most likely have been disabled at the firmware level, not the registry. This will be just like the "GPS" question on the 6700, 700wx, etc: it's technically there, but we don't know if the chip is plexed to an antenna + we don't have the API to access the information and integrate it with the OS.

I wouldn't get my hopes up on this, but I'm willing to wait while others figure it out.

I'm still undecided as to if the hardware exists....

While working on a custom rom, i realized that the wireless drivers and dll's were completely removed from the Rom that the touch was shipped with. I've been disecting parts of the Titan Rom and attempting to peice it together with the Touch Rom in hopes of possibly getting working Wifi.

I too thought that it was strange that they would leave the hardware completely off of the device which is why i've been seeing what i could figure out. As of right now i've been unsuccessful and starting to think the wifi hardware doesn't exist.

Sprint to Finally Switch On gpsOne for its Windows Mobile Stable?

GPS On the Mogul Coming: CONFIRMED

One of the major differences between previous devices and the Touch/Mogul is the presence of the internal GPS antenna <--BTW, good photo of what a Wifi antenna looks like.

Plus, like I said: you can walk down to your little Sprint store and buy yourself a Windows Mobile Motorola Q q9c with GPS in it. It works, right now.

Sprint is finally getting into the GPS game.

But this thread is about Wifi...

If you look at that small jack by the camera lens I mentioned above, you will see a small rod shaped antenna attached to it... Look closely, you can see part of it next to the stylus cap. Is that a wifi antenna then? Maybe it is the GPS antenna... but then, what is the wavy ribbon to the above right of the camera lens, it too could be an antenna?

P.S. In many laptops I have had apart in the past several years, all the Wifi cards used that jack with a small wire antenna plugged into it. Just my observation... I had no idea it was also used for CDMA... Seems like a Micro BNC jack then? If the Wifi hardware exsists, then it is only a matter of time before it is activated... MAYBE it is deactivated due to power drain concerns?

P.P.S. Following the footsteps of Malatesta I found this: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf Which explains the rod I asked about, looks like it is the CDMA connection which I can clearly see now with that back removed... and IF in fact it connects to that jack, it makes sense that it too is a CDMA jack. Seems not too many other photos are available, as they asked for a confidentiality request on the internals...

P.P.P.S. Go here: https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/...ericSearch.cfm And type in NM8 for the FCCID and VOGU100 for the rest, and you will get all the freqs that were tested for this phone... 2400MHz, 820-840MHz, 1800-1900MHz... What does that tell anyone? 2.4GHz is normally Wifi right? Does GPS and BT use this as well?

https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf

This says CDMA2000, (850, 1900) 1xEVDO/ 1xRTT/ IS-95A/B with BT2.0 with EDR + AGPS functions...
