800w seems the best of both worlds, touchscreen and real keyboard. Now if they only get teh hardware right on it and maybe 2007/2008 specs itll be a winner. i just personally cant stand Palm's choice to go with ancient hardware on their phones until recent. heck they finally just got away from full size SD cards. let alone never had wifi or gps. plus the 240x240 700wx screen was jsut not that great, they needed 320x320 at least. Im really hoping the 800w comes out to be whats speculated, could be great
Yeah, the Sprint Touch is pretty nice, although as I was alluding to, it's the 2nd version which includes more memory, faster processor and better TouchFLO, something that is all now being implemented back to the GSM version--so HTC got it right, but on the rebound. The 1st Gen Touch has a 200mhz processor (too slow), no 3g and like the Mogul, too little memory. Then again, looks like Sprint killed the Wifi and temporarily the GPS.

The 240x240 was not that great, but understand that was a WM5 limitation--Palm would have loved to have done 320x320 to keep hardware parity and save money, but MS said it can't be done. They have since been able to so with WM6, though supposedly not without substantial effort. This is all documented on the WM Team Blog.

Also the amount of free RAM in a 700wx (42mb) was still a substantial amount for a 1 year old device and although it only had a 312mhz processor, it ran like a 416mhz 6700, saving battery life to boot.

The latest specs on the 800w I listed here. They're not mind blowing but I think they will be quite satisfying.

This is a silly question but I have never used GPS or aGPS on a PPC. Will it use your minutes or be considered as data usage?

I am really considering swapping to a Touch. What do you guys think? Maybe I should wait longer (Feb. or so) and try for a Treo 800w?
Either way, do you think jumping off the Mogul bandwagon is a wise idea? Only thing I will miss is the QWERTY. The touch screen text messaging on Touch seems like it would be a nightmare.

Depends on what you use for the mapping software. The GPS itself does not use your airtime minutes/data.

It all boils down to personal preference! Some NEED the slide out keyboard and WiFi.

So whats the best software option? If you have a 2gb card, slap TomTom 6x and some US maps on there? iGo? What is the best PPC solution?

So if we have standalone aGPS on the mogul/touch it will not use any data/minutes? I know a legit standalone GPS (like sirf3) doesnt use radio or anything but I wondered about the aGPS.

aGPS can operate, theoreticallly, in 4 different modes. In true standalone (just satellites) no data is used. All of the other 3 variants use a combo of both and some data.

It is not yet known what Sprint's aGPS system for WM will use. From my 5 min experience with the Sprint Q9c, its GPS seemed to be just satellite--so no data. But we'll have to wait and see.

Regardless, it will never use minutes. Just data and if you are Sprint that is unlimited anyways.

Here is what is being reported on everthingQ: The GPS is good. I've used it with both google maps and windows live, and both programs will track my location while driving (or walking). I had the phone sitting in a cradle on my dash, and the phone will tell you down to within meters how close you are to a street or turn on google maps.

It was great to be driving down the road, watching where I was on the highway, and getting real time traffic updates via google maps while the q9c tracked my every move on the road.
This review can be found HERE: http://www.everythingq.com/forum/mot...use-14520.html This is on the new Moto Q9c. BOO

It lets you download it and run the program but then it asks you for your 10 digit telephone number and 4 digit pin which is fine, but it won't let you pull up the keyboard to type it in. I even tried to copy and paste it in and there is no way to paste your number in (i.e. "right clicking" by holding down stylus on the screen - doesnt work). Any ideas? I want my Navigation!!!!!!

Thanks for posting, but this link has already been shared a couple of times. Take a look at the other GPS threads

Thanks for understanding.
