Oh how I love my phone now.... had this happen for the second time now. Except this time it erased my newly taken vacation photos from my trip to the rockies... I want to smash it to pieces.....

Yow.
After mine deleted stuff on my card, this is my strategy:
1) Save all photos to Main Memory. I'll copy them to the card when I get too many, then offload to PC 2) Keep on the card only music and videos that I have on my PC. |

Happened to me as well, SEVERAL TIMES. I have a 2gb sd card. The first two times I recovered my files with a Data Doctor recovery program. The first time. I just replaced all the files after recovering the lost ones. The second time I reformatted the card prior to replacing the filesand haven't had a problem YET! It has been a week now and I am praying this won't happen again! Maybe formatting the card directly on the phone as i did will help??? Will let'cha know if my results change.

After mine got corrupted I formatted the card before re filling it as well and so far so good for about 10 days. One thing that I though might be corrupting it is doing a soft-reset while the audio player was still open, so I have been making sure to exit out of any audio player as soon as I finish using it and it's been good so far.

more weirdness...
So this happened to me a SECOND time three days ago. Interestingly, it happened when I was playing with Windows Live Search features while the phone was signaling low battery power. Now, I'm not 100% sure if the low battery situation was part of the problem but I can say that it was almost immediately after this that I noticed the corruption. Once again, the programs tied to my SD card weren't working and their icons were "blank", plus all of the files and folders were gone but replaced by "gibberish" folders. Sadly, my BACKUP on the SD card also disappeared so I couldn't do a quick restore like I did last time. So I resigned myself to re-install those SD card items when I got home in a few days.
However, last night I encountered an interesting development. I decided to download Picsel Browser directly to my SD card and re-install it there (one of the SD card victims). I finished the download but then had to go do something and didn't get back to my Touch for a couple of hours. When I went back to the phone and looked up the file using the file explorer, I noticed that all of the folders and files that went missing earlier had REAPPEARED. Despite the two or three "gibberish" folders remaining on the card, everything seems to be back to the way it was before the glitch. Weird. Well, to say the least, I let out a big sigh of relief. I don't know what brought THIS about, but I'll take it. Regardless, my policy now is to make sure I keep a copy of the backup on my PC just in case. But now one has to wonder: are SD card issues (like the 6700's BSOD and this corruption problem) even more likely to be related to the SD card slot POWER? Keep in mind that NOTHING on the Touch itself seems to be affected by this issue.

I don't think at all the Touch is a crappy phone. In fact it's the best PPC phone I've had (and I've used many over the years). This just may be a bug like any other smartphone or PPC phone may have. I mean, at least I could run everything else, make calls, do a lot of other things on the phone. Just that all of the stuff on the SD card won't work when this happens.
HOWEVER...in light of what just happened to me this time around, I'm one to think that perhaps these missing files and folders on the SD card haven't been deleted or corrupted. Rather, something's happened at the root level of the card that prevents all previously placed folders and files to cease being visible/accessible and the "gibberish" folders are perhaps confused references to certain parts of the "missing" files and folders. This may not be as volatile a situation as it appears to be. Anyone have any thoughts about this development of mine? |

Over at sprintusers.com someone posted the hack to save message to storage card and had in bold letters (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HTC TOUCH)
-causes storage card corruption. I said that to say this... I have SKTOOLS and never had a problem with my SD card until I used the Tune-up feature to have my messages saved on the Storage Card! He may be onto something. Since then I reformatted my card and copied my folders back onto it (had my folders copied on my pc prior to corruption) since then... no problems. My question to you is... Are you using sktools tune-up to have messages/email saved on the storage card and if so, is it that important to you because I would suggest reversing it back to the device and see how that works for ya. That's my $0.02 __________________ |
