Sprint mobile email problems?

I get errors and very very laggy touch when I run this program. Is anyone else having this problem? My email client is yahoo.

Does yours push your email in a timely manner?

If the WM version is anything like the Palm OS version, then "push" is based on SMS push. That is, when Seven's servers detect a new email for you, a special SMS is sent to your device to trigger an auto-sync with your email server.

Sprint's SMS system tends to get delayed so I've noticed 5-20 minute delays for that SMS trigger to come through.

The same principle holds with the Oz messenger app where the 1st message is usually a SMS based "wake up" IM.

So wouldn't it be easier to just have it check every 30 minutes?

Depends.

If you get a lot of email, then definitely. If you only get some, you'd use much more battery to poll every 30 minutes than wait for the SMS-trigger.

The SMS-trigger is nice since you only connect to the mail server when there is 100% certainty of an awaiting email, where as polling is just blind luck (and POP3 accounts are already inefficient compared to IMAP, so there is a lot more data and processes going on to login and retrieve).

Personally, I'd bite the bullet and just do the "push" method and hope that Sprint gets a better SMS system in the future. You'll still get your emails within 5-20 mins I imagine and save battery life. YMMV.

I noticed that the sprint mobile email really kills the battery too. Is this anyway to disable the email service after it has been set up? If I need to read it, I can just use the manual email settings, but I can't figure out how to disable the mobile email client once it has been configured.
