Official Bluetooth GPS Receivers Thread

Ok, Going to look into getting a BT receiver for my Bell Touch but, one of my main uses for having a GPS is for Geocaching.

What sets off a geocaching GPS and non-geocaching GPS is the distance-to-coords factor. This means you enter the coords to the cache and it routes you to it, street routing is not important to me for this (although useful), what I want is a arrow and distance countdown leeding me to the pre-enterd cache.


Does any of the GPS software (especially the Garmin 10) mentioned have this feature?

Having serious weird problems with new WM6.1 Apache build.

My GPSlim now has problems connecting with passcode "0000". Entering that usually fails. Enter any other number and it connects. Much of the time, it misses the serial port though.

Ever worse, once it's all set up. Most of the time when I access the GPS com port the GPSlim tries to repair. It's a mess with basically no GPS now.

Anyone using the latest BuildOS for WM6.1 and GPS?

One day i was in my car playing around with gps, it was raining out.
For some odd reason the unit fell out of my lap or out of the car somehow and laid in the rain for a full day. It wasnt until the next day i walk up to the door and noticed it peaking out of soft mud since i so cleverly parked in the yard that day... i just have a question..if u could answer since u have more experience with it..it says do not leave in extreme heatlike a stove (lol) or sunlight..i plan on leaving it in my glove box..but sometimes we get 90+ days in the summer...would it be ok under those conditions?

ps just wanted to state this about tomtom 6..i never heard anyone say it before i bought it..so im telling whoever is interested now..when u turn on tomtom 6 it will automatically turn on ur bluetooth and pair with the gps reciever..then when u exit the program it turns the bluetooth off..i dont know if all gps programs do this (ie garmin) but tomtom does and i think its an awesome feature..just my 2 cents..

are you using BuildOS and WM6.1 with your GPSlim236?

I leave mine in the box under the radio and have seen no problem on 100 degree days.

just can't connect in WM6.1

im using the newest build os kitchen wm 6.1..and it works fine for me...the bluetooth reciever connects fine.

thank for feedback on wm6.1 working!

just ordered the B-Speech keychain GPS. maybe it's just the gpslim 236. it's been annoying with 5-10 minutes to get satelites after turn-on and inconsistent pairing before anyway.

I was hoping someone would answer your geocaching question. I looked at the prices for Tom Tom 6 and Garmin 10 and these are just as much as a full GPS unit!!! Amaze is free but you have to have cell phone connectivity and when I hike, I am often out of cell range (Olympic National Park). Even Google and Live are not options for me.

Anyone know of any low cost maps to load onto a memory card in addition to software that is Geocaching friendly?

BTW, I purchased the Holux M1200 and so far I am impressed!

I use BeeLineGPS for geocaching. I use the map function but it just shows the location of the cache and where you are without an overlay of an actual map. It works pretty well and doesn't require an internet connection since you load the GPX files into it.

I have the garmin software installed but feel it's only useful to get you in the general area or street routing to a cache area.

I also have cachemate installed (I use the same lic as I use on my old plam for paperless), it has a optional software add-on of GPSNAV which gets you very close for "off road" work.

I have used this setup only once or twice but what I find best for geocaching is my Garmin hand held, but in a pinch I can easily use the phone.
