Registry Tweaks/Hacks/Edits - Share them here!

Please make sure you explain what each one does clearly.

Do these at your own risk!

In order to perform these you'll need a registry editor such as Resco File Explorer Registry add-in, PHM Registry, etc.

If you need to learn how to edit the registry visit this thread: Detailed How To Edit The WM Registry Guide

EDIT: For a compiled list of all hacks/edit up to Feb. 28, 2008, visit THIS post, thanks to calisoldier83 for the hard work!

Here's one I use a lot...

Quote:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\TODAY\ITEMS\PLUGIN NAME

Change TYPE from 5 to 4
By changing the type from 5 to 4 it will allow you to move an application within the Today screen. Some apps have the type set to 5 so that they stay on top of all the others and are not movable. This fixes that.

Also, when the type is set to 5 you will not be able to place the plugin insde tabbed apps such as Spb Mobile Shell, Spb Pocket Plus, etc.

Found this on treocentral and it still works:
I think i found a way to navigate web pages seamlessly with one hand in pocket internet explorer like blazer on the palm platform does.
Disclaimer: Always backup before making any changes to your registry.

**Note: This is only really useful if you use the 'one column' view in PIE, if you usually scroll horizontally you have to assign the page up/down keys to something other than right or left on the 5 way**

Anyway, here goes:

-First, close out of Pocket IE if you already have it open
-Then Using a wm5 registry editor (I used resco regedit): go to -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
- Create a new key. Call it "KeyMaps" (without quotes)
- Under the newly created "KeyMaps" create a DWORD Value. Name it "37" and give it a DWORD data value of "1" (without quotes)
- Under the newly created "KeyMaps" create a DWORD Value. Name it "39" and give it a DWORD data value of "2" (without quotes)

Now go back in PIE

Left of the 5-way will page up
Right on the 5-way will page down

For *much* better A2DP stereo bluetooth performance, use this hack -

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"Bitpool"=dword:00000080
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:00000080
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000002
"SampleRate"=dword:0000BB80

biggggant 11-08-2007 01:20 AM

do the battery hack from the mogul work?

dutchman71 11-08-2007 10:54 AM

Application Unlock? Seems the Mogul directions do not work...

dwehking 11-08-2007 08:42 PM

Got from somewhere for my Mogul, can't remember where. Seems to speed up my Touch a good bit. Uses about 4mb memory with my setup. Still has about 68-69 mb's to start. I used 16384 on the first one.

Make Your PocketPC Faster

Open your registry editor on your Pocket PC
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
3. Change the value of 'limit' from 8192 to 16384… or even to 32768 for a faster setting but eats up more memory
4. Close registry editor and soft reset.

HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS

I changed the CacheSize key from 0 to 8192 and it seems to have sped up my ppc.

I've heard it does. I just did it to mine tonite. Will know more tomorrow nite.

diomark 11-08-2007 09:14 PM

Need someone to confirm this isn't just my imagination, but I think this registry hack made my network performance *much* faster (especially in regards to resco radio streaming or slingmobille slinging..)

HKLM\comm\tcpip\params\TcpWindowSize (changed to hex 0x18000 or dec 98304...)

schettj 11-08-2007 09:41 PM

might be your imagination... WM is supposed to do auto window scaling since the window size depends on the path the connection is taking. But it might make a difference if it was set very low - what was it before you changed it?

32k

I would love for someone else to try this... I was trying to use resco radio yesterday - and it kept stopping the stream/rebufferring.. It's been rock-solid streaming today with the 96k setting... It could be just a coincidence.. but....

Ah 32k is pretty low - mine was at 64k, didn't see any difference between 64k and 96k. So yep, you probably are not seeing things ;)

Thanx. I didn't want it to seem like I was taking credit. I just wanted to pass it on.

I'm intrigued. What exactly does this improve?

hippity.hoppity 11-09-2007 12:22 PM

Would love to get confirmation on these two hacks. Anyone try them on the Touch? I thought that I remembered reading that neither one was worth doing on the Mogul. Speaking about the last couple of hacks that were posted.

Here's the defaults -

Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:0000001E
"BitPool"=dword:0000001E
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000001

...but these settings sound much better to me (on a motorola s9) -
Code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"Bitpool"=dword:00000080
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:00000080

"SampleRate"=dword:0000BB80

How to get rid of the DCIM folder and have pictures stored to your storage card under \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures:

1. Open up the camera, and press on the 3 bars on the lower right. That should open up the options. The last option will let you pick either main memory, storage card, and bluetooth. hChoose Storage Card and it ok to save. Pictures seemed to be save under \storage card\dcim\100media.

2. To change the path of the saved pictures and video to \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures, edit the registry:
HKLM\software\htc\camera\General
- change EnableDCIM from 1 to 0.

Now your pictures will be stored in \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures

boxermansr 11-11-2007 08:13 PM

I'm guessing the registry hacks related to the sounds made when adjusting volume (up/down) when in a call, as well as the dropped call sounds, and sounds made when you end a call, will all work on the Touch too, correct? (I've been too lazy to try).

I don't notice any diference with my speed of my touch. If anything, its making my phone trip out. The calendar short key on the lower left switches to notification back to calendar whenever i wake up my touch. Are you sure this is compatible with our Touch and not just for the mogul? Has anyone else tried this tweak?

machtenx 11-12-2007 11:17 AM

Anyone know if the power management hacks from the Mogul will work on the Touch?

I did them. Battery life is great (didn't have much time with the phone before though) and nothing seems out of order. Might as well do them and maybe get a little improvement.

CMeys 11-12-2007 01:44 PM

How about a link to these power management hacks from the Mogul please?

These hacks DO work. I was turning my mogul on all day just to confirm that the battery was not losing its juice, and it held through the whole day, something that I have never seen before.

chiromikey 11-13-2007 01:14 AM

disable annoying "message sent" notification

i hate that damn pop up so here's the fix that i've used on all my ppc devices:

- HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox

- create a new key "Settings"

- create a new string value "SMSNoSentMsg" and set the value to 1

CMeys 11-13-2007 08:53 AM

Thanks for the power hacks.

what's your headset? Try a slightly lower value for the bitrate.. those settings work perfectly with the motorola s9.

Is there a way to put the Start menu at the bottom instead of the top? Sorry if this is a noobish question, but I figured since there were no soft keys anymore, that the "soft key buttons" and the Start menu could be swapped.
