Live Search and Default Shortcut on Today Screen

Just to let you guys know that if you replace Live search with the newest Cab from Microsoft (the one that lets you check gas prices and has speech recognition) the shortcut on the Today screen won't work. I'm looking for a workaround and would love to hear if someone else has figured it out.

I think the shortcut would be pointing to the location of the ROM installed CAB, and your new Live Search would not be on ROM. Did you try creating a brand new shortcut ?

as far as I know, the today plugin is part of Windows Live and not the seperate Live Search app. I am not 100% sure about hte newext Live Search, but in the past, this is how it functioned.

I'm not sure about that, because there was a seperate shortcut in the program list, plus when I used the Default Live search and hit update on it it did download a new cab (the release without gas prices and speech recognition) installed that cab and the Today Link still worked.

Yes I did the update too and it worked. BUT the update does not let you check gas prices or use Speech Recognition. You get that from actually downloading it from Live's site. The cab file from the update was about 503k while the one from Microsoft's site was 720k.

Well technically they're both from Microsoft's site, just different versions.

The actual Live Search app that does the voice recognition is just an .exe file. Basically a stand alone app. The Today plugin comes with the Windows Live app that is different. While they both have a "Live Search" function, the Windows Live one is just web based while the other is run on the ppc. Make sure you know which ones you are updating and refering to.

The one that came with the touch was an App not a link to a website. It looks exactly the same as the newest version it's just missing the gas price button and Speech recognition. I kinda wish I kept the version number or the cab from it. But the default one that the link on the HTC_HomeSprint plugin was definitely a link to an APP

Edit added:

This is the exact error message I get "The file 'Live Search' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file"

Yes. The Sprint Touch comes with Live Serch installed, the actual app... not the Windows Live search box.

What I'd try is get someone who has not updated find where the EXE file is... if it is under Program Files\Live Search it should still work since that's the location where the CAB installs as well.

Reading that error made me think about this reg entry... I have never performed it, but maybe it'll help!
