Thanks for that. Hadn't seen your butt...I mean, the holster like that before.

Polen 11-14-2007 03:41 PM

LOL, you like? hahaha

Yeah, I hook mine to my pocket, not my belt. My beer gut dunlaped over my belt and phones on my belt dig into it.

wickedklown 11-14-2007 04:01 PM

BAH!! thats not a holster! thats more like a fanny pack :angry7:

Dummy me i should of said the snap in style holster with the swivel ratchet

LOL thanks for the pics. Ya those are bad if you got a keg instead of a 6pack, like us.

ok, some newbie questions. im coming from a q so im familiar with winmo, but there seems to be a lot of differences b/tw smartphone and professional

1) how do i customize the programs in the launcher tab? i saw the htc home customizer thread but im not sure what all can be done with that?

2) are there better voice command programs available? i was kinda surprised to see voice tags, i miss my voicesignal!

3) is there a thread/resource with different reg edits? i like my programs sorted as a list, but id assume the reg edit i used to do this on my q is diffferent

4) is there a better contact manager? i like pocketcm, but its not playing nicely with my touch

thanks guys!

Pibe38 11-14-2007 05:51 PM

@Polen: Why would you need a stylist?!? Hahaha

I know what you mean, I have not used my stylus at all.

Depends on what you exactly mean. If you mean what apps can be scrolled with your finger, almost anything can be used with it. There aren't any real cool things perinstalled, but I have used finger scrolling with most of my apps.

The only one that does not work with it and comes with the phone is SprintTV since it seems to be more of a Flash-like based interface.

1) No need for the customizer. The customizer can be used for it, but it's more for how the plugin looks. The Launcher tab has an X icon, you click it and go into Delete mode. Then you can remove the shortcuts; after exiting the Delete mode, click on an empty shortcut an you will be prompted to add a new one there.

2) I read of someone installing MS Voice Command, however, it seems to have the same issues as it had on the Mogul. Which to be sincere, I don't remember what they were.

3) Yes, read the FAQs Sticky to find links to threads with helpful apps and reg edits.

4) I think I recall reading that there's a reg edit to make PocketCM work better. You can also try VITO's Funcontact or I also use the one on Agenda One.

kellybrf 11-14-2007 06:14 PM

thanks pibe. i cant believe i missed the x icon in the launcher, stupid n00b!

Just got the Touch, some questions

I just got the touch to replace the Mogul, and I have some questions.

1. Sprint TV initially didn't work, it just didn't load any channel until just now a pop-out window notifying me of upgrade. I did and it worked. The upgrade file looks the same as what I used on the Mogul, but on Mogul after this upgrade every channel unlocked. I subscribed nothing but had the access to every single channel in Sprint TV. But on Touch it worked properly, only very few free channels.

2. I finally realized why people complained about the stock keyboard getting in the way when typing. I got the same problem when setting up the email accounts. Nothing can be scolled up since it's just a plain page. I have to type in blind for the password. Is there any way to go around this? 3rd party software?

3. Can we also use the soft reset after hard reset trick to get rid of the pre-load crap ware? For me, only the Sprint TV is useful and I can always install it later. But I don't know if this would affect the Touchflo and the cube? Anyone tried?

Afterall, it's really tiny and solid built, better than the Mogul. However, in terms of PDA functions, Mogul wins without any doubt.

dawilliams660 11-15-2007 01:17 AM

Sorry about dude

Big D5 11-18-2007 10:02 AM

Just throwing my hat in the ring, picked mine up yesterday, kept my mogul and paid full price for the Touch. Initial reaction is dang this thing is small, and surprisingly easy to use. I have recently changed responsibilities at my job so I will be spending more time in front of my PC so I don't really need the qwerty as much as I used to. I am sure there will be something I will miss about the Mogul but at this point I just don't use things like WIFI, and qwerty keyboard as much as I used to. When the current issues with the Mogul get fixed I might go back but for now I just couldn't live with the bluetooth issues on the Mogul, once I heard that the Touch bluetooth was working, I ran to the nearest Sprint store to check one out, saved my money than got it.

Signed happy for now,
Phone whore

wickedklown 11-18-2007 12:27 PM

Got my Touch about 4 days ago, the keyboard covering my text messaging and half my screen is annoying as hell, hope a work around pops up for this. But other than that its a blessing compared to the Mogul's setbacks that i was experiencing.

This thing is fast, handles ton of apps without hiccups, my BT volume is stil eh.. Really light! Size? like too big for 1 hand (while texting) and to small to hold with 2 hands. Picture is great, think Mogul's is lil better (viewing angles ect..). Overall Im happy and I think the phone is great. (thanx Ecare)

If/when a Mogul II ever comes out with double the ram, BT and less bugs I'll be getting one too , miss the KB.

rawr 11-18-2007 02:31 PM

Has anyone with the Touch experienced any issues with the BT yet? how about a Black Screen of Death? are there any of the same troubles that we face with the Mogul?

Pibe38 11-18-2007 03:19 PM

BT has worked fine for me...

And it depends on what you mean by black screen of death. If you mean that the device did not wake up when hitting the power button... it's only happened twice overnight for me.

EtherealRemnant 11-19-2007 05:26 AM

I'm falling in love with this thing more and more each day I use it.

Touchpal is only going to exacerbate that love once I get used to the swiping motions on the keyboard.

This is the smallest device that I've ever owned and I'm just completely amazed by it. It looks sick, it feels fantastic in the hand, its got a REAL d-pad (four directions and a SEPARATE button in the center), I've yet to get a SINGLE out of memory problem (I don't even close apps when I'm done with them anymore)... this thing just quite simply rocks.

The battery life, however, leaves something to be desired. Maybe that will improve over time though.

same here... I say 90% of my convos since I got the touch has been on BT and I haven't gotten any complaints

Its also funny, because I got the Black screen of death only twice and it was overnight. I think it was a 3rd party software conflict... I believe S2U... once I uninstalled, I haven't seen that dilemma..,.. But I also have my Touch set where it doesn't turn off on its own while its charging.

rawr 11-20-2007 12:48 PM

the concern i have with the black screen of death is that it seems to happen when i move out of range with my bluetooth devices. it will always crash. can anyone verify if this happens or not with the touch?

want2tokyo 11-20-2007 06:24 PM

I have had this device for about half a day so far and am loving every minute of it. I switched over from the mogul which is a great device but the memory issue made me switch. A couple of things I noticed I missed right away about my mogul are the keyboard (of course) and the wheel button. However, the touch is so much smaller and the memory is twice as big. Another big plus is that the vibrate on this phone is not as loud and annoying as it was on the mogul. Whenever my mogul would vibrate, I would think it would shake the whole thing apart (and this is with the vibrate hack to lessen it). Overall i think the touch is a great upgrade, i miss the keyboard but i can live without it.

pnyce777 11-20-2007 08:17 PM

got a screen shot?

Zyphlin 11-24-2007 06:22 PM

Wow.

That's my first impression.

Just went to the sprint store to see this thing. I have a 6700 whose mini-USB port has stopped syncing/charging so needing to get a new phone. Been reading about the touch and how tiny it was and just thought it wasn't possible. Hell, I was hearing people compare it to a closed razor or a blackjack.

I was wrong.

The thing is TINY and light. Easily pocketable. I feel like i'd be doing it a disservice if I get one and ever use it in a side holster. The touch flow interface was nice, and the machine was very responsive. Not a bad screen either...

I found that finger scrolling didn't work well for me. I'd flick and it'd almost instantly go to the bottom or the top of the screen...but I figure this may be due to a setting that could get changed?

Typing with the two letter per key keyboard is going to take some getting used to I think, but I definitely want this phone

wheelsun 11-27-2007 06:39 AM

oh my god i just jumped ship. only had my Mogul for about a month, and ordered me a Touch. DAMN impulse buys! :violent2:

DefRide9 11-27-2007 12:58 PM

wow this is all i can say right now i just read this entire thread from to to end and i want to get a touch so bad now.

At first i was skeptical about a couple things with this phone but after hearing the excitment in everyone's words i think i can trust you all. After all we all love the Mogul :thumbright: lol.

So knowing how everyone felt about their Mogul and me feeling the same, taking everyone's input into consideration, i think i might have to really try to get one now.

Hearing almost nothing but positive feedback about this phone has you could say pushed me over the edge to decide to try to get it hahaha. So i want to thank all of you for posting your thoughts on this phone and will continue to read about it until i get it....... then share my own two cents lol.

jet_black619 12-01-2007 10:31 PM

Picked up my Touch a week ago and can't put it down. Spend almost all my free time customizing it. Conversation my roommate and I had yesterday while I was adding icons for SPB Pocket Plus:

Him: "So, when's the wedding?"

Me: "Wedding? Me and (Girl I've been dating)? Bit soon don't you think?"

Him: "No, you and your phone. Can I be best man?"

Anyway, after hauling around a Treo for the last 2 years the Touch is a nice change of pace. I'm constantly checking my pockets to make sure it's there because I can't feel it. Keyboard takes some getting used to, but can be replaced if you can't. Lots of memory, fast processor, all in all an excellent device. Two thumbs up!

Zyphlin 12-03-2007 01:23 PM

Quick question I need to know real quick.

In the contacts part of the Cube, the little picture on the bottom with the X over its face. What does that button do?

Actually, just in general, what do all 4 of those buttons do?

Quick responses would be best. Thank you in advance :)

flintowndancer 12-03-2007 02:43 PM

I fucking love this phone... Its my first ppc and its my second touch screen device (aside from my nds lite) I was just amazed at the fact that I can and will download hella apps and shit to this phone. im in love with a device.... although i was a little unhappy at the fact that I didnt know that they had the same phone in a slider version

Well... I finally bit the bullet and bought the Touch.
wow is this thing sexy...
I SAY, WOW IS THIS THING SEXY! .... CAN I GET AN A-MEN!
(had to get that out)
Day #1: was spent cuddling with the Touch and tweaking the fool out of it.
Day #2: I drive many hours a day (occupation) and I listen to audiobooks a lot! I listened to a book for about 5 hours total today, and went from 50% down to 10%. That includes 30 minutes of GPS time and another 30 minutes chatting while driving. Both GPS & headset are bluetooth.
Not plugged in during that time obviously. I wanted to see how long it would go...
Outlasted my trip \\:D/
Just now had to plug it in for charging. Fantastic battery life.

Lovin' every second with it

I'm waiting the last few days till I'm upgrade eligible. I started looking at the Mogul, but after reading all the horror stories about it I've switched my attention to the Touch. After reading all the post here during my research, I have one question for all of you.
Now that you've had the Touch for two, three, four weeks, are you still happy with the phone?

twospirits 12-07-2007 11:28 PM

I finally got the Touch off of ebay a few days ago and have been testing it since. I must say, it is unreal how small and great it is. Picturs don't do it justice nor the countless posts. It feels great in my hands and is actually light. Small enough to fit in a pocket without felling you have a brick in your pants.

So far these are my observations, and it may or may not help anyone still deciding whether to get on or not.

As mentioned previously by others here I have to agree on the following...

  • Pros:
    1. Unit is lightweight, not as heavy as I thought it would be.
    2. Thin as compared to other smart devices.
    3. Small size, pocketable.
    4. Has Windows Mobile 6.
    5. Speed and will only get faster once Rev A comes out.
    6. Good looking enough for the guys, as well as sexy for the ladies (sounds like a Secret commercial).
    7. Big enough flush flat screen does not gather any dust in the corners.
    8. Streamline look, rounded corners and not to many buttons.
    9. of course Touch Flo and being able to use your fingers.
    10. 2.0 megapixel Camera takes decent enough images.
    11. Hidden stylus plus the unit came with a spare.
    12. Loud Speakerphone.
    13. It includes a 512mb micro-sd card, but installed a 6GB one and it works.
    14. Unit can accomodate up to an 8GB micro SD card (according to Sandisk)
    15. Numerous keyboards to choose from
    16. Bluetooth
    17. The Camera Album feature, while not like the iphone, is actually pretty neat to use.
  • Cons turned into Pros:
    1. No external keyboard, but I got used to the internal ones.
    2. Getting to the Micro SD card, but no need to open it after installing a big card.
    3. No headphone jack, but no need if using a BT one.
    4. Alarm was sounding low, but played with the settings.
    5. Lack of Wifi, but realized I never really used Wifi to really miss it. But if Spectec ever comes out with their wifi card, it should fix the problem.
    6. Lack of GPS, (but I like most guys, I never get lost, so I don't need it.)
    7. Kept pressing the camera button while grabbing it out of pocket to answer a call, but it stopped after I discovered the lock/unlock feature.
  • Cons:
    1. Attracts smudges on screen especially fingerprints.
    2. Hard to read the screen in daylight.
    3. That damn Bubble Breaker game. Its so damn additive.
    4. Wish the side holster that was supplied was big enough to hold the accessories the phone came with.
Now I cannot truly compare this phone to my previous one, since that one (Samsung M610) was not a smartphone, but from the time I played around with my friends Mogul and my neices Blackjacks, I can truly say I really really like this phone. I can only imagine what HTC has coming down the pike in the future. I have been touched by the Touch and I'll never go back to a regular phone again.

Zyphlin 12-10-2007 05:37 PM

This is the PPC I've wanted for 8 years.

I'm just simply amazed by this device. First, I have to say, this is the most pocketable Pocket PC I've ever used. Its easily on par with the smallest one I've used, the HP iPaq 1900. It fits in my pocket with ease, and even into my chest pocket on a dress shirt without really noticing it there. My biggest problem with cell phoens, PDA's, and espicially cell PDA's has been not wanting to grab and take it with me when running a small errand so as not to lug it around...won't happen with the touch. I almost feel ashamed putting it into the case which seems actually larger than the touch itself. I can't wait for a decent holster for it.

The feel of it is great. The rubberized siding is absolutely wonderful to hold. It looks amazing. The black on silver with the bit of gray gives both a professional sleek look while at the same time cutting edge.

The interface is masterful. I find myself walking around just clicking into programs, or bringing up the cube, for no other reason than to do it. Its just very intuitive and easy to use, without having to juggle getting the stylus out and placing it back when needing it. On an appearance factor, it just feels much "Cooler" to be tapping around on the phone and bringing things up with your fingers than holding the very bottom of your phone clicking around on little buttons.

About buttons. I am finding myself missing them, but I don't know if it is just due to old habits right now. I keep trying to click for a start menu button and use the D-pad because that's what I've always done...then again, i've always done it because I couldn't be bothered to pull out the stylus. I have a feeling that if I get AEbutton to take care of a few things, I'll be happy. And over time, I'll probably get used to and actually prefer just tapping it out on screen.

Absolutely falling in love with this device and I don't even have it home yet to start putting other software onto it

I thought the Touch had Wlan/Wifi, no??? According to this http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/prod...CH_PRODSHT.pdf it does...

Zyphlin 12-10-2007 06:01 PM

HTC Touch that was released in Europe did have WiFi

The Sprint Touch, which is actually the HTC Vogue, does not

Focaldesign 12-10-2007 06:02 PM

Seriously? Wow, why is that? I would never had bought it if it didn't have wifi.

Zyphlin 12-10-2007 06:07 PM

No clue. My guess would be to save on price (probably off set by the increased memory), save on weight perhaps (never held the other one to know what the weight difference would be), and deemed "not top priority" since it has other ways to access the net.

Musicman247 12-10-2007 06:16 PM

You might search this forum for Wifi. there are several people who believe the Touch has wifi, but it is not enabled. they believe this because the Touch and the Mogul use the same Processor.

And for the record, I LOVE my Touch! Best phone I've EVER had!

Chyna24 12-20-2007 08:20 PM

Okay first off hello everyone. I am new to the site and I can admit to being very much challenged in this area of technology. I have had my touch for a while now and I like it but I do not feel like I am getting the full benefit of it. Here are some things that I would like to change or do differently. If anyone has any suggestions for me feel free. If not THANK YOY ANYWAY & HAPPY HOLIDAYS.

1. Text Messages-
-Is there anyway to forward msgs that others send me to one or several people using there telephone numbers and not email add.?
-Is there anyway to send my pics to others via text and not email them?
-Anyway to set a ringtone for my text messages?
2. Sometimes my phone will go into airplane mode while I am talking on it. anyway to totally disable that?
3. How to get a better keyboard?
4. How do I get a full screen caller id option?
5. Games. On my old phone I had paperboy and Tetris and I miss them. Know where to get it for this phone?

THNX
