well, i got mine yesterday around 5 pm. tok me a little hunting to find a store that would sell it a day early. most stores were allready sold out. luckly kansas city has 100 different stores.

my first impression was ... man this is way small. awesome.

the size is great. fits in the pocket great and best of all feels good in your hand. i played it the touch flow for about an hour while she tred to ring me up. i wouldsay that i had it all figured out before i really got my device it self. i was playing on the demo.

the only weird thing was the memory card. everyone says the battery cover is weird, but that was easy. just use your whole hand to push up on the cover to remove. now the memoy card was weird. you have a little door that covers the card. i pushed an pushed on the card but it wouldn't click in. so i figured that the memory card door it self kept the sd card inserted. i put the battery cover back on and noticed the side (memory card was sticking out a little. didn't like that. so i sanded off the top part of the memory card. DONT DO THIS. i destroyed the card i one second. lol. i do have 2 extras and everything backed up.

well to make a long story short. make sure you use your stylus to insert the memory card untill it clcks in to place. this really cant be done with your finger/finger nail like it could wth the mogul.

over all rating. LOVING IT. 5 stars (so far 12 hours with 6 sleeping)

now i just hope the BT woks good. too scared to try it out. i like the phone too much to start hating it. lol.

Um let me add that bluetooth works, I've had 3 conversations so far with the bt and no one has made any comment on the quality of the call. BT tethering works, it did take me a few soft resets of the phone because I kept getting the wrong user name/password error on my phone but I', actually using it now since my wi-fi connection at home is being dumb. All that RAM really makes a big difference and makes using the device more enjoyable. I'm not sure about the cube yet I didn't like it on my mogul but I am using it since we dont have the hard buttons. Battery life does seem to less than moguls but even after making alot of phone calls, surfing the web, playing with settings, installing programs, watching youtube, watching sprint tv and xfering files via bt I was at 30% after 9 hrs. I'm still trying to learn how to type on this thing lol also I had the issue with the sd slot luckily for me I forgot where my dremel was lol

i use to have the bb 7100i which used the 20 key suretype. i think it works just as good. in fact i like this suretype a little better than the full keyboard. i think it helps me since i cant spell. with suretype i rely on the autocomplete more.

to each his own though.

I went to the Sprint store today. I liked the Touch a lot. It's small enough that I ended up exchanging it (same $) for a RAZR2 I had bought last week to be my pocketable weekend phone (my account gets migrated to Ensemble tomorrow, so looking forward to ESN swaps).

The store received 10. When I arrived an hour after opening, they had 2 left. They said the other area stores were already sold out. FWIW (nothing to me), the packaging is black and classy.

The Touch is very small and light! Great screen - as clear, sharp and bright as the Titan, if not more so. Fast and responsive. After a soft reset - 140MB ROM free, 75 MB RAM (that's with Sprint customizations run). WM6 ver 5.2.1620 (build 18125.0.4.2).

As reported, touchscreen has wide 'margins' (no bezel around recessed screen) so easy to use softkeys and close button.

And best of all - BT works GREAT!! I have a new nXZEN 6000 headset (BT 2.0, DSP) that works very nicely (it would not work at all with any of the 6800 ROMs, but worked fine with RAZR2). My wife, who is normally quite critical of any BT headset with any phone, casually said "it sounds fine, just like you're talking on the phone" - that's as strong an endorsement as I'll find.

That's it for now - off to make chili for the Colts game...

EtherealRemnant 11-04-2007 06:22 PM

Memory leak?

Sprint is replacing my Mogul on a swap (its been less than 30 days since I got my Mogul) and giving me the 50 dollar credit to boot.

If this doesn't work, I'm just going to run head first to the RAZR2.

Some questions about the Touch.....

So im on hold for account services to order the touch, its been 20 minutes and i think ive memorized the whole song they play when your on hold!! it goes like this... chachachacha nanananana nenenenenununununu nanananana nanananananana naaaaaanaaanaa HAHA!!

I have some questions about the Touch...

1.) is flash 7 a must for internet explorer? what browser does it work better with?
2.) does the touch come with MMS? If not, what is the best version i can install?
3.) Is there a screen locking program already built into the phone? (besides device lock)
4.) is the speaker phone and earpiece loud?
5.) does the camera have good picture qaulity?
6.) does microsoft live search work on the touch?

Thats all for now, thanks!!!!!

Mustang46L 11-04-2007 08:09 PM

1) Flash 7 works with IE. It isn't a MUST, but it allows you to view some Flash content.
2) No. There is one available in the Software section with directions on how to make it work.
3) No
4) About the same as any other PPC, maybe a little better than the Mogul and 6700.
5) Yep, comparable to my Mogul and Sanyo M1.
6) Sure does, comes pre-installed.

mpancari 11-04-2007 08:14 PM

This phone is almost perfect!!! If someone can come up with a screen locking program that actually works that would be awesome... thanks for answering my qs

mpancari 11-04-2007 08:21 PM

I cant seem to find MMS for the Touch in the software section can you please direct me? im slow.... haha thanks

mpancari 11-04-2007 08:22 PM

Both phone r great in there own way mogul is good for its Qwerty keyboard and the touch for its touchflo and its ram ..

It really all depends on the type of user u r with your phone i have them both i couldnt give up my mogul so i hope every glitch is fixed to make it redeem its name becuase its a great phone.

And on the touch's A.K.A vogue its a great little phone not bulky not heavy fits in the palm of your hand (for those people who have small hands) its a cool look not your normal ppc phone but its nice. I cant go with one or the other there both great in there own little way so if you can wait to get a good rom fix for the mogul don't give it up if your the hardcore texting,e-mail type person if you not go with the touch its nice

I hope this answer your questions and doubts about the mogul and touch ;)

Can anyone confirm exactly where does finger-scrolling work? I know it works on PIE, but I want to know if I can:

* Scroll down contacts.
* Scroll down e-mails list.
* Scroll down within the e-mail itself (opened e-mail).
* Scroll down on 3rd party apps, Newsbreak specifically if anyone uses it.

Thanks ;)

Mustang46L 11-04-2007 11:30 PM

Yes to all, can't confirm Newsbreak though.

I would like to know this as well. Very important info. Also, if you CAN scroll within an e-mail, how do you select text? Thanks. :)

Great info, thanks!

Have you tried to use finger-scrolling on any third-party app?

Donatom3 11-05-2007 12:15 AM

Finger Scrolling works in Resco File Explorer and PHM Reg editor and those are two third party apps. In fact it's worked on about every program I've tried it on so far.

Mustang46L 11-05-2007 12:15 AM

Sure I have! Media player, TCPMP, PHM RegEdit, ect.

Pibe38 11-05-2007 12:53 AM

Thank you very much to both of you for answering my questions! I really appreciate it! :D

Now don't go having too much fun with the Touch ;)

I guess I'll throw in another request... does anyone still have the Mogul and the Touch? Would love to see some good comparison pictures.

I'm starting to consider the Touch. I hadn't had issues with my Mogul, even with the newest ROM until I opened my mouth and posted about it. But I won't go off topic

I have a Newsbreak license and will try to remember to try it tomorrow. Feel free to PM me if I forget!

It takes a bit of getting used to and finesse, but it's based on if you pause for a split second before scrolling.

I just figured out something pretty cool with the touch. If I swiped side to side while in my Hotmail account I ended up scrolling between my SMS account MMS account and my other email account. That's definitely a really nice bonus. I'll have to see where else that works.

I also just noticed if I swiped side to side I ended up scrolling between email messages.

Oh, man, I can't wait. :D How fast is the cube? I'm curious because I like the little mail button on my Mogul, and I'd like to just be able to tap that instantly.

Pibe38 11-05-2007 01:30 AM

I'm quoting this from another thread, but it has some pretty cool videos on how the Touch works, etc. Thanks to monster28 for the link!

Great link, Pibe38! I'm salivating. :D

doczhivago007 11-05-2007 02:52 AM

Picked mine up earlier today, replaced by 6700 with it...i have to say i am really loving it so far...the whole device seems a lot more refined than my 6700 (even though i had the helmi upgrade on the 6700). The touch feels so eerily light in my hand and especially in my pocket...i am sure I am going to forget carrying this thing around a lot more as it's so small. The finger scrolling thing works everywhere and it's great, even works in Opera Mini 4 Beta 3, almost feels like the iphone browser. I am also digging the htc keyboard, very responsive and usable. Overall I am very happy with the upgrade, all except for the lack of wifi. Does anyone know if the wifi radio is on the device and disabled or completely missing? If it's the former, i hope someone figures out how to enable it!

Pibe38 11-05-2007 02:55 AM

I'm pretty sure it's been removed... unlike GPS/AGPS, it would make no sense to release a device with wifi turned off.

I'm not saying the Touch has/does not have GPS/AGPS, I'm just saying that sometimes carriers block it so later on they can offer their own nav software. But with wifi it would have no purpose... at least that I can think of.

Pibe38 11-05-2007 03:38 AM

It just occurred to me... how's the carrying case that comes with it?

princesst 11-05-2007 04:48 AM

Has anyone installed the MMS hack yet? I am dying to know if it works on the Touch.

Side-by-Side Photos of Mogul and Touch?

I have seen many posts and specs about the difference in size and weight between the Mogul (which I have) and the Touch (which I just ordered). Anyone have photos of the two side-by-side? I would like to see all views, including width.

Thanks,

BB

I am also waiting for that kinda comparison - though I've already ordered a Touch. If I get my Touch before I see the pics - I will post them, but am afraid it won't be at least 3-4 days.

I am also due to get my Touch in the next few days, so I will do the same. No other way to pass the time, eh?

Cube Question - Does Previously Open Side Open Again?

Given that I will not likely use the side with Sprint Music, On Demand and Sprint TV, I am wondering if the side you just closed is what pops up when you open it again. In other words, I would like to use only two sides, unless I can re-assign the third side items to more useful things, like Live Search.

Thanks,

BB

Similar to the one that came with the 6800, though much smaller of course. Leather-like, belt clip, magnetic clasp (no exposed metal parts). Small embossed HTC logo.

Will work just fine until Seidio and/or others release clip or slide-in holsters.

Yes, the side you had opened is what re-opens next time. Currently you can't re-assign the shortcuts but there is a thread about how to do that here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11035

Guys, why aren't you discussing the soft keyboard input??? :)

To me this is the deal maker / deal breaker. If you say it's good I'm going to begin haggling with customer service.

HOW IS IT???

Thank you :)
