I believe you do have to have activesync installed on the pc that you are doing this with. Since mine always has to sync on my laptop before it will work for me. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No you don't actually need activesync,

Re: Tethering A Touch

Can the Sprint HTC Touch be tethered to a Mac, perhaps using PDANet (it says Bluetooth DUN may be an option?)

Re: Tethering A Touch

Okay, so I've installed WM6.1 on my Touch, and it seems to have changed all of this. Basically, it doesn't work anymore--the registry key that we're supposed to delete is not there in this version, it doesn't give you the option of chosing the Network Connection Type as Sprint PCS, and I get the Error 67 every time I try to connect.

The registry no longer has this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing
"Extension"="rilphone.dll"

Instead it is now:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing
"Extension"="isext.dll"

I also noticed this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings
"ForceCellConnection"="Phone as Modem"

So, do we just delete the isext.dll extension, or is this other key perhaps forcing the connection through as PAM when we were able to avoid that type of connection before? Maybe this key is why I am not given a choice as to Network Connection Type?

Any ideas anybody out there? I'm not comfortable enough with registry edits to go hacking around blind. Thanks.

Re: Tethering A Touch - NEW STEPS FOR WM 6.1

Okay, good news for all of you WM 6.1 users out there. I decided to go ahead and experiment with the registry, and I've gotten around the main problem.

All you have to do is delete this registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings
"ForceCellConnection"="Phone as Modem"

This gives you back the option of chosing the Network Connection Type as Sprint PCS, which gets around the error completely. In fact, I'm connected through my phone right now.

Now, the question still remains whether or not we need to delete this registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing
"Extension"="isext.dll"

That one may need to be deleted in the same way we used to delete "Extension"="rilphone.dll" in order to avoid having to open up a data connection before starting IS, or in order to keep Sprint from detecting the PAM-type usage. I'd still like to hear what others have to say about that, but I'm glad I got past the initial problem.

Let me know what you all think/find out.

Re: Tethering A Touch- NEW STEPS FOR WM 6.1

By the way, Rev A speeds seem to be great with the WM6.1/Rev A update to the Touch, and I just got a call and it didn't interupt my internet connectiton!

Re: Tethering A Touch

I am using OMJ's 3.03.04.Generic.ustom ROM. After I connect my touch to the PC (WindowsXP) I simply use Programs->InternetSharing and my PC can access the internet.

I deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing
"Extension"="isext.dll" and removed the value "Phone as Modem" from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings
"ForceCellConnection"="Phone as Modem" and tethering seems to work the way that it used to. Not to bad for speed either.

Re: Tethering A Touch

Thanks to mcgerity and barry for providing the solution to the problem... it works! See the Sprint Touch manual for info on using Internet sharing... describes how to set up a USB and/or BT connections.

I folllowed all your instructions in this thread and managed to install Resco and am now tethering my Touch. Great job guys. Even someone not familiar with Regedit can do it by just following the steps.
