My plan is to continue the development of my ROM. If you were to flash and let customizations run there is a funky way to get back, so I would say to you take a dip into the deep end of the pool. Only way to truely learn about all of this wonderfulness.

Steve you can easily get any app to run if you have let the customizations run on the leaked ROM.

First install Valhall GPS cab then install Franson's GPSgate. It allows you to create a simulated hardware port for TomTom and those type programs that need a hardware port to lock into. I have done this so I know for a fact it works.

If you need help I can try to help you get there. Where are you at now?

Scott,

Yes I know about the combo of Valhalla and GPSGate. As you will see in this thread I have been advocating this for quite a long time. What I am trying to understand is if gpsapi.dll needs to be dropped into the root of each 3rd party app, like TomTom or iGo8. It seems this is the case but I am trying to confirm this.

Second I am working on an ultra clean ROM that has no extraneous stuff in it. The purpose of this is to keep the OS clean and simple, while giving me the flexibility of adding anything via cab.

Thanks,
Steve

No it does not need to be if provisioned correctly in the registry.

Before I explain any of this let me ask you a serious question...

Why on earth do you want to worry about that when I have already stripped out the DRM on the GPS?

Anyways, here is a hint... Look very closely at the valhall cab. All the answers are right there if you know how to read a cab file. Specifically the registry. You seem like that type of guy that understands that from reading some of your other posts. Its basically just telling windows where the new default driver is and to use that. The reason VZNav still works is because I believe its hard coded to the drivers in \windows\. I dont know this for a fact but the cab should tell you. I used ot know how but I think its lame to use the cab. I would rather rip the ROM apart and fix it right the first time ;c)
(Yes i know that is not for everyone but its me)

But seriously please explain what you are trying to accomplish as I just am missing something. I am not saying this to be snotty, I really dont understand what you are ultimately trying to create. I just cant keep up with all the threads these days. The thread in my signature block is about to hit 500 posts over at XDA!!!! And that was for my Titan ROM btw.

Ide like to be able to help but I dont know what it is you are doing, ahhahahaha

Scott,

Thanks for the help but I am done with this. The combo of Valhalla/GPSGate does work for those that let customizations run. You just have to drop gpsapi.dll into the directory of the GPS app you want to use.

Now as you said I am onto using your unlocked kitchen. This is my final ppost in this thread since there is really no more to do.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

vzwtechbill your wrong. your companies phones crack. there is a lengthy thread on this here. Im on my third and this morning i found another crack. its a known defect in the white vx6900 by everyone other than verizon. yeah you all send us a refurb phone for a phone you should never have sent out originally. I got one year to play this game with vzw until my year is up. you should never have sold me a phone that continues to crack.

send your phone back to vzw and when you get the refurb, load the vzw and vahalla cab on it. you have to start from scratch with the "new" phone anyways and load all your aps on it.

Started typing a detailed response, and realized at paragraph 3 this isn't the place for that. Long story short: yes, the phone cases suck. HTC shouldn't have provided such cheap plastic when they supplied us the phones. Fact is every phone returned as deffective goes through a rigorous inspection/rebuild before it becomes someone elses refurb (you gotta recycle, these things are too expensive not to), and if the inspector gauges the phone as being physically damaged, the account holder is charged the full retail value of the replacement device that was shipped. That's black and white truth. I bought a Sprint Shell from ebay, took my phone apart, and swapped the white plastic for the touch paint Sprint casing. Now I got the Network and the cool black rubberized phone.

i would give my left nut for someone to do that for my phone just because i hate the white plastic to begin with.

speaking of phone issues, the screen itself is peeling up, has that happened to anyone else's?

Does this still lock out your gps if you let customizations run? Or is it "fixed" like the ROM from Scrosler?

Hi Leslie,

Steve ROM is going slow but sure. It will be the cleanest ROM anyone has seen. I am painstakenly removing all the extraneous apps that I dont consider to be part of a "clean" ROM, and even the registry entries that go with them. The goal is to have a ROM that can be flashed quickly, and doesnt just dump everything in \Windows directory. Any additions would be done by CAB, and even then the CABs will be tweaked to install in their own directory under Program Files.

Its alot to get done but in the end I am sure it will be great. How are things by you? GPS operational?

Steve
