Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

I flashed a VZ XV6900 Brand new out of box with the Verizon leaked rom
All the settings went like this...(Did not let customization run!)

From this ///////////////////To this
Windows Mobile ////////////6 Windows Mobile 6.1
1.15.605.///////////////////14 3.14.605.1
03/10/08 ///////////////////10/03/08
1.60.30 /////////////////////3.37.77
ACAAAAM-4070 ////////////DCAAXOM-4350H
0001 ////////////////////////0001
51024 //////////////////////51143
1.37_002 //////////////////1.37_002
MSIE 6.0 //////////////////MSIE 6.0
36AA56EE /////////////////36A834E6
4 //////////////////////////4

After the flash I tried to use live maps....I already *228 (Option 1 & 2), setup phone location on, gps h/w port, program port , baud rate, etc. GPS in live did not work!

I then tried Valhalla GPS thing...Still nothing!
I did a clear storage which formats everything...(let custimizations run this time!) Did the *228, location, h/w port, program port, baud, etc...Tried live maps...nothing........Installed Valhalla....Nothing!!! Nothing Nothing!!

I was successful last week with this by figuring out my phone was on 911 only and gps locked instantly...that phone was cracked and broken and had to be sent back. I know this should work...but I am stumped! Please Help me!

************************************************** ******
Update!!!
For some reason it works!
It wasn't working at all...I didn't touch it & went to sleep...I woke up & the FRIGGIN' thing works great!

Thanks!

Ok I have done the testing I said I would and here are the results. I would like to say that in my testing I did NOT need the aGPS fix at all, and it did nothing to help.

So I started with a fresh ROM flash and I let customizations run. Once my device rebooted I then did *22899 and ensured that my device was on the VZW network properly. I then ensured that my device had Location On and not 911 Only. This is a critical step in that it looks like the ROM flash sets this back to 911 Only.

Next I installed the Valhalla cab and after resetting the device again I then loaded iGo8 to see if I would get a GPS connection. I let iGo8 try to find my GPS COM port, but it was not able to find the COM port. I then installed GPSGate 2.6 and configured the Input at WM GPS and Output as Virtual COM8/NMEA. After a few seconds GPSGate went green, which means that it was received valid GPS and position data. I then fired up iGo8 and what do you know it found my GPS. Be aware I was in the middle of my home when this happened. I then tested the position data coming in and it showed me almost exactly where I was in my home. Next will be a drive and I will be doing that later today.

What I find curious is that iGo8 did NOT find the GPS on COM8, but on COM4, which is where Windows is setup to manage. While I have not had time to prove this I am of the opinion that Valhalla\GPSGate exposes the GPS data to a wider audience than was intended. It is clear that both are needed in order for this to work. Valhalla alone does not get the job done. Next up for me is to look into the Valhalla cab and see where it is dumping the files. I see under Program Files there is a folder called GPSSERVER, but only 2 files are there. The others are somewhere else and I need to find out where they are. I also want to try dumping gpsapi.dll right into the iGo8 directory to see if it will find GPS without GPSGate.

So ladies and gentlemen the Valhalla/GPSGate combo does work for us. Now I want to refine it all.

Thanks,
Steve
Happy T'day to you too and all-
I plan to follow your method to the "t" some time today Steve. Will check here before beginning to see if any further developements. We are nearing success, I can feel it!. leslie

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

One thing that is not working for me on this update is automatic time zone update (Time Synchronization). It was working with the stock 6.0 ROM, working with a cooked ROM, but will not update automatically in this leaked ROM. I have seen some say that Time Sync is a feature offered only by Sprint, but every VZW WM phone I have ever had used this function just fine.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

I am gettingcold feet about doing the flash again. Steves report looks good but I would like to hear how his travel went with GPS. I hadn't noticed the time thing, that could be a real issue if you travel a good bit as I do but I am usually in same time zone.

Time sync does work on VZW. All CDMA networks have time sync as part of the network, whereas GSM or the older TDMA this was not the case.

I took it on the trip and it worked well but I found a few things I want to investigate further. If you want to wait a bit I should have more info shortly. Its nothing bad...I just want to be sure I have all the inner workings right.

Did you cross time zones, and if so, did it update to the new time zone automatically?
