Anyway, I've flashed and let customizations run and ran valhalla. But the only way I could get the satellites to show up in Tracky was to start GMM first. But then the lat and long in Tracky is just random, and changes drastically every second. Closing GMM has no affect. My other 3rd party apps mostly behave exactly the same way. Though I did have one program that worked a little bit (trackpal?), but then the gps data would just freeze up - that was with the original flash and letting customizations run. I've since reflashed to the VZW 6.1 and this time I didn't let customizations run. I installed valhalla gpsserver. I've done the qpst agps fix, though not sure if that did anything. I've also installed gpsid, which also doesnt seem to add anything. I'm going to try the latest gpsgate in a minute. So far my results since reflashing without customizations is identical to my results when I let them run. |

Testing Update and Results
Morning folks and happy turkey day!
Ok I have done the testing I said I would and here are the results. I would like to say that in my testing I did NOT need the aGPS fix at all, and it did nothing to help. So I started with a fresh ROM flash and I let customizations run. Once my device rebooted I then did *22899 and ensured that my device was on the VZW network properly. I then ensured that my device had Location On and not 911 Only. This is a critical step in that it looks like the ROM flash sets this back to 911 Only. Next I installed the Valhalla cab and after resetting the device again I then loaded iGo8 to see if I would get a GPS connection. I let iGo8 try to find my GPS COM port, but it was not able to find the COM port. I then installed GPSGate 2.6 and configured the Input at WM GPS and Output as Virtual COM8/NMEA. After a few seconds GPSGate went green, which means that it was received valid GPS and position data. I then fired up iGo8 and what do you know it found my GPS. Be aware I was in the middle of my home when this happened. I then tested the position data coming in and it showed me almost exactly where I was in my home. Next will be a drive and I will be doing that later today. What I find curious is that iGo8 did NOT find the GPS on COM8, but on COM4, which is where Windows is setup to manage. While I have not had time to prove this I am of the opinion that Valhalla\GPSGate exposes the GPS data to a wider audience than was intended. It is clear that both are needed in order for this to work. Valhalla alone does not get the job done. Next up for me is to look into the Valhalla cab and see where it is dumping the files. I see under Program Files there is a folder called GPSSERVER, but only 2 files are there. The others are somewhere else and I need to find out where they are. I also want to try dumping gpsapi.dll right into the iGo8 directory to see if it will find GPS without GPSGate. So ladies and gentlemen the Valhalla/GPSGate combo does work for us. Now I want to refine it all. Thanks, Steve Last edited by spetrillo; 11-27-2008 at 09:56 AM. |
