At present I know that the combo of Valhalla and GPSGate allows the GPS functionality to be seen by third party nav systems. What I dont know is why and thats what I am looking at now. Stay tuned. Steve |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Hey guys, got this rom a couple of days ago, and loving it! I had successfully loaded the Alltel rom into my 6900, and had GPS working at the cost of being able to send MMS. GPS not working on the new rom, but since it took my phone 2-3 minutes minimum to get a lock, I never used it except to show off that I had it.
Now, for all the programming geniuses here, I have a request/toy for you: I have a .cab file for VZNavigator that was used in beta testing for the 6800, along with a program called "LPS Target Utlity" that I have no idea what it does. They were given to me as a pair while I was testing the next gen of HTC devices and the VZ Nav wouldn't fire. I don't use this site enough to know how to upload the files, so if someone wants to email me, I'll be glad to shoot them your way. I love VZNav, but until the feature is released to be added to accts, it's not very useful. I would love if someone could make use of one or both of them to unlock gps or other functionality of the 6900. |

With GPSGate, I did like you said and used WM GPS for the input and for output I've tried various things - I assume the com port/NMEA is the correct one. My TomTom will get a satellite lock if I use the com port/NMEA I set up (com 8 ) or it will get a lock on com4. But it behaves the same either way - just random lat/long values. ![]() But GPSGate won't go green until I fire up GMM. If I just fire up GPSGate, it won't get a fix from com4 without starting some other functional GPS app (GMM or LiveSearch). |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Rom Upgrade and GPS working Flawlessly allowing customizations to run for Live Search and Google Maps:
Live Search and Google Maps should work. Special Thanks to Skywing's excellent work on this issues. Well done mate! Also Skywing Registery Edits: REG_SZ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\ServerPath = "Path to gpssrv.exe". Defaults to "\Program Files\GPSServer\gpssrv.exe" if not set. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINe\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\AllowDeviceStateChange = 0/1. Defaults to 0 if n ot sete. If set to 1, then gpsapi.dll will send device state change notifications to your GPS program. Some programs appear to have buggy GPS handling (Google Maps in particular), and will break if this option is set. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEAddress = IP address of the PDE to use. Defaults to 0x845FAE42. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\PDEPort = Port number for the PDE. Defaults to 8888. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\Mode = gpsOne mode to set. Defaults to 2. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\QoSAccuracy = Relative fix accuracy requested. Defaults to 64. (Max of 255, higher values request a more accurate fix, but this may increase the time to acquire a fix.) REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\QoSPerformance = QoS performance flag. Defaults to 10. As to what effect this has on the gpsOne chipset, I'm not entirely certain yet. Debugging reveals that the value internally is called the QoS performance value, hence the name. The meaning of this value is likely buried in some gpsOne technical document that I have not found yet. REG_DWORD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valhalla Legends\GPSServer\FixInterval = Time, in milliseconds, between requests to the gpsOne chipset for an updated GPS fix. Defaults to 1000. |
This post has been thanked 1 times. |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
So... I am currently running omj's newest non manila rom. I have gps working but am intrigued by the possibilty of better reception and longer battery life. If I flash this rom and don't run customizations can I then reflash omj's rom and be working with the new antenna? I know how to flash, but am not completely clear on the antenna issues.

Skywing, the author of the Valhalla Legends GPSserver, has a detailed article on how Verizon has locked down the GPS chip here: http://www.uninformed.org/?v=10&a=4&t=txt From reading his article it sounds like the GPS chip goes to sleep unless it has a successful periodic challenge/response exchange with a GPS application. It then starts sending out encrypted GPS data. Skywing's GPSserver does two things - it handles the periodic challenge/response exchanges required to keep the GPS chip awake and sending out encrypted data and it also decrypts the GPS data which it then forwards through the Windows Intermediate Driver. So I suspect what's happening is that running just TomTom (or any other GPS app that utilizes com ports for GPS Data) never even wakes up the GPS chip which is why it never gets a lock. But if you run GMM or Live Search (or any other app that utilizes the Windows Intermediate Driver for GPS data) first the GPSserver wakes up the GPS chip which causes TomTom to get a GPS lock. But the data on the Com port is still encrypted which causes the location to be random. If you then close GMM or LiveSearch the GPSserver stops handling the challenges/responses with the GPS chip and the GPS chip goes to sleep causing TomTom to lose GPS lock. Using GPSgate to forward the decrypted GPS data from the Windows Intermediate Driver to a virtual Com port sounds like it should work but apparently isn't for some reason.
