Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
If you aren’t using vista, then you need to make sure you are using the ActiveSync v.4.5.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/16791 Second, you will need to download the official Verizon ROM update found here. http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downl...zon%20Wireless You will have to click on the right where it says Software Upgrade and select Download Now. Once you have downloaded the file, connect the phone to the USB on the computer and run the file. **NOTE: The phone will need to have a 50% charge and it can take a while. Follow the directions that come with the install and you will be fine. Third, you will need to install the cab file that is found here. Once the cab has been installed, follow the setting directions that are on the link below. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...VerizonAGPSFix The directions for the setting is located halfway down the page and it is titled Verizon MR1 GPS Instructions. Follow these instructions and you will have GPS enabled on your phone while also having 6.1 There is nothing else to it. I did this with a stock Verizon ROM that was 6.0. I have no idea, but I would assume that since you are reflashing the ROM it wouldn't matter what was on it before because you are replacing it, but I take no responsibility for assuming that........

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Reception Issue:
Well, I got the phone once I was assured of a legit Vzw source of the update (appreciate your efforts here, guys, but really wanted to play it “safe†- the info here has been most helpful). I applied the update before activating, and it went fine (from Win2K) … except the reception was so bad, that I could not establish the connection with the *228 call for the initial phone programming! My house is “cellular-resistantâ€, but all my other phones, including the xv6900 I tried for a week or so in July (before returning it due to various dissatisfactions including paying $200 vs the $50 now that I suspected would occur some day) with the stock WM 6.0, have always been able to make that connection from one spot or another in my house. Has anyone else had this problem? I finally got around it by inserting the stripped end of a twist-tie wire in the antenna jack under the camera mirror and routing it out the stylus opening. It is one of those heavy black ones that often is used to tie up cables with electronics, and is only about 2.5 inches long, but seems to be dong the trick. The twist-tie antenna makes the phone seem “normalâ€. I have gotten download speeds with dslreports.com’s speed test of 600Kb/s, which is a nice rev A step up from the more usual 200-400 I would get with the xv6700 I am replacing with this one. I even got Google Maps working nicely with the “Valhalla†GPS update from xda-developers. Last edited by rokky; 02-01-2009 at 10:45 AM. |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Ok... so I flashed the ROM, and soft reset as soon as I chose "Skip" for the password". I re-authenticated so data/voice/everything seems to be working again. Followed the VerizonAGPSFix directions and installed the gps cab. Did a soft reset. Installed google maps. Did a soft reset again for good measure...lol went into google maps and to 'menu' > 'use GPS'. it says "initializing GPS" for a minute or so then comes back saying no gps receiver was found.
Any ideas? thanks in advance |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
Thank God! ... er Verizon for this official ROM. My touchscreen just up and died today and I was in a quandry over what to do. Now I can blame it in their ROM!
And keep my fingers crossed they'll just give me another phone. ![]()

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
I decided to take it up with Vzw tech support, and they authorized an exchange for another xv6900. It has much better reception (as in it HAS reception without the twist-tie antenna, altho that does boost it further). After a day or 2 I figure I will try the 6.1 update on the new one, and see how it works after that.

You might want to check it out for your home if you are in a cell dead zone. Keep in mind that you need a decent signal outside of the house (where the main antenna will be mounted...higher is better!), as it will only boost that original signal. http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Exten.../dp/B000J2XZ1K Anthony |

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update
I asked this question when the Leaked version came out, but I'll ask again now that the official version is out and more people are updating. With both the leaked and the Official 6.1, I can't seem to get it to automatically update to the network time zone when I travel across time zones (I have to manually change the time zone if I want my calendar to update appointment times to local time). Worked fine in 6.0, worked fine in cooked ROMs, but with the leaked and official versions, I just can't seem to get it to work. Any road warriors out there having this problem? And yes, I have it enabled...
