Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

Okay, I think I've read everything about this official Verizon ROM and I'm still wondering if there is any advantage to it (for a Verizon user like me)? ... or is generally a mistake to load it?

I've been running custom ROM's with the Bell 3.42.50 radio and have no complaints, but it's bugging me that there might be some advantage to using my own carriers official gps-enabled radio. Maybe call quality? ... data stream? reception area? Is there any advantage for a Verizon user over the setups already available other than I would be slightly more in compliance with my service agreement?

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

Sorry, I was going to say something interesting, at least I think, but unfortunately I have totally lost my train of thought due to my current state of mind. Wow, really sorry about that.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

This may be a silly question but i've never had to deal with this issue before - any advice is appreciated. I am on travel east coast to west coast. I have my meetings entered into my phone (east coast) when I change my local time xv6900 revises all events (ie meeting starts at 8 now reads as 5am) is there a way for the time to stand alone and not affect calendar?

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

I just got a text message from Verizon saying I should goto Verizonwireless and download the update, so I am guessing this is now "Official" ?? Or am I late ? Has anyone D/L from Verizon directly? Does it lock GPS to VZNav only? Does it prevent you from unloacking and installing a custom ROM?
Thanks
Rusty

EDIT: ok it's been out for a while

Still... any reviews?

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

wmnoobie, you can set a visiting time in the >settings>clocks and alarms>time tab. not sure how that will affect your calendar. try it and post if it works. seems i saw an ap out there also go to

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-clocks.html

and see if one of these aps works. pls post what you find to work.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

Mine....Rom Version 3.14.605.1 Rom Date 10/03/08.

I am trying to load Nex_Vogue_VZW_hulk.nbh

Or

VZW10252008CRiSTALv04

i have tried loading other roms too. i get the same error each time. When i loaded my current rom, everything went smooth. Now all i get is error 262 every time. reguardless of which new rom i try to use.

My radio is 3.37.77

What do i need? a different version of RUU? I have tried RUU V3.27.4.3, 3.19.4.3

is there anything i can do to update to a different rom? am i stuck? please help.

I have also tried to use v2.1JB to build my own. but i always get ERROR "The file 'temp\dump\cusTSK.exe' already exists."

Thanks for your help.

Visiting time or straight time change affects calendar times. I am still out of town and not tried any 3rd party apps I'll post if i come up with a good resolution.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

Thanks for that tip, Anthony, but that is a bit bulkier and more expensive than a twist-tie. Also, harder to take along for areas with a weak signal, although it is something I have considered for general reception improvement in our definitely "cell-resistant" house for all the family's phones (at least for Verizon - my AT&T work phone has much better signal strength indication most of the time).

Now that I have updated the 2nd phone to WM 6.1, I am finding the same problem, BUT it seemed to occur after I stuck the twist-tie in the antenna socket - always looking for that last bit of "boost". It seems as though I get the expected signal boost, but then the phone becomes "dependent" on the twist-tie for any kind of reception, even in previously 4-bar signal areas.

I had read a post on another forum somewhere that I did not pay much attention to at the time, but now I think it is relevant. The poster seemed to think that there is an internal switch that detects when an external antenna is attached, and disables the internal one, but should switch back when the external one is detached. I am wondering if my twist-tie is making that a one-way process, and I really should only use one of the antennas from someone like Wilson specifically for the xv6900/Touch to make that sensor switch work properly BOTH ways. Here is an example of such an antenna adapter:
http://www.wpsantennas.com/wa-1039-h...ptercable.aspx
It looks much like the one I got for my xv6700 (huge boost for reception in the house - cost about $30 from an eBay dealer). BTW, the xv6700 also works a bit better with the twist-tie PLUS it reverts immediately to the internal when I pull out the twist-tie.

FWIW,

Pocket Informant allows you to choose your time zone for appointments as well as many other cool features.

Re: Verizon - Official WM 6.1 Update

Thanks, I'll try to look at pocket informant. Before that though (the saga continues) I am back in my home time zone this morning my alarm went off.....with yesterday's time. I have no alarms set at the time - anyone heard of this? I have turned off/took out battery, will see if it happens again in the morning. I am only running official 6.1, google maps with valhala, and skyfire

Alarm went off again this morning at 5:20a, 6:00a, and again at 6:20a, 7:20, 8:20 (but this time alarm time reads 5:20a) all under description work. Yesterday I deleted all descriptions, unchecked all alarms, and all days (current unchecked times 5:30,5:40 and 6:05). I need help Short of Hard reset, any ideas?
