I have since installed the beta sprint rom and let customizations run was getting locks within 5 seconds in my house (where I could NEVER get a lock before) with 5-9 sats. I installed 5060 nuerom shortly after and now consistently get locks within 5 seconds everywhere I go (similarly to the beta rom I imagine as it was doing this for me when I had it. My friend (who ran the retail gps rom by the way so it's not just the beta rom/etc) would tell me stories of this I never believed it was as amazing as he made it sound. Maybe I didn't let the customizations run on the retail rom? Anyways, I now know how good the gps really can be, I always get locks now, have yet to find a building it doesn't work in (although I don't really try it in high rises or anything), and get locks at AMAZING speeds. I have been running this for a while now, and can say without a doubt that it is a complete 180. I used to carry my bluetooth gps receiver along sometimes because it was far superior to the phone's gps but now this is simply not the case and this is ridiculously better than my bluetooth gps is or ever was. I had no idea the phone's gps could get this good! I have never had an instance where I did not get a lock in 5-10 seconds now and always with a large number of satellites. I'm not sure if this enabled some type of assisted mode or what, but if you are having slow locks, people are not exaggerating, the phone really can lock ridiculously fast with a lot of satellites. It was hard for even my bluetooth gps (with sirf III) to get a lock in my house at all, and now this thing will ALWAYS lock in under 5 seconds in my house. This includes a cold start after a soft reset, happened the first time I ever tried it, and after not using the gps for several days.

I can't say for sure what I did that fixed the problem, but I can say for 100% sure that if you are in the same boat as I was, there is an answer, the phone is very capable of having an amazing gps, people are NOT exaggerating.

On a side note: I have never ran ppst.exe (although maybe the customizations do this for you), have never done the regedit, and do not use quickgps or anything like that (I tried quickgps when I was having problems before and it did not seem to help). My friend was getting locks like this way before as I mentioned too with the retail rom as well. Neither of us have done any of these things. I think the answer may be to let the customizations run or do like I did and install the beta rom first let the customizations run and check for yourself.

Holo, what sprint beta rom are you talking about? Can you please post a link to this beta rom. Also what is your carrier??

1) Download, install and run the sprint ppst
2)Obtain your MSL
3)##786# and click menu>reset. Enter your MSL
4)*22803>option 2
5)*22803>option 1
6)flash your desired rom

Without doing 2>5, you will get damn annoying IOTA errors, but everything still works. Good Luck
Hey anyone! I was just wondering what you actually have to do in the steps 4 and 5, do you close the ##786# menu and open the phone and dial *22803 and select option 2? As if your calling a company and selecting someone office?

THanks, i am with bell btw

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I have tried about 3 different roms, and I noticed the same GPS locking times in all of them. The only thing that made a difference for me was PPST, which now allows my GPS to lock in within 30 seconds - 2 min max. However there is absolutely no way that holo is getting locks within 5 seconds. I can affirm this strongly, because I have seen professional GPS that are used in field expeditions at universities, and they themselves do not lock in within 5 seconds. There is only one way to achieve a 5 second lock, and that is by immediately after you achieve a lock, you turn off the GPS program, and 1 second later you turn it back on. That is not called a true lock. A true lock is achieved by: When you get your lock, turn off your GPS program completely, put your phone into sleep mode by pressing the power button. Four hours later, turn on your phone and run your GPS program, I guarantee that no one here will get a lock within 5 - 10 seconds, but in best case 25-30 seconds. When people claim they get 10-15 locks that is just pure BS, because there is no way a GPS module on a phone can triangulate 15 GPS satellites, to gather data. The radio in the phone simply does not allow for such high number of locks. Simply put, it doesn't matter how many locks you get, as long as you get above 2, the phone can still determine the position, but not as accurately. I have tried about all the methods of getting GPS to run and lock faster than 30 seconds-2 minutes. But sometimes it just varies on the phone and the hardware itself, and how quickly it sense the satellites. I know people here have professional GPS receivers, and they too can confirm that it is impossible to get a lock within 5 seconds. Whoever is claiming that they can get a lock within 5 seconds after having your phone in sleep for 4 hours is just BS.

Those steps are not necessary. All you need to do is flash to a radio version of 3.35 and up, then install and run PPST. Install a GPS program and you will get a lock in a reasonable amount of time.

Perhaps if you are on Sprint! But those of us that arent ... many challenges

Ghetto ...

I got the GetSPC software - loaded it on the device and ran it against the HEX Id under the battery. It gives me an output number - but when I try and use that to "reset" after running ##786# on the Sprint Leaked ROM - it says the code is no good. So Im stuck at trying to reset the EPST.

Where you able to get your Unlok Code to reset the EPST Screen?

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I am on bell, and have not had to do those options, first of all I can't do them, because those numbers don't work on my provider. But updating NAM will not do anything in terms of GPS, they are not even related.
