Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

I have followed the directions to the letter but when I get to the point of *22803 I am not a Sprint customer. Do I need to do this and how do I get this going? *22803 brings up an automated attendant wanting me to enter my Sprint phone number.

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

for what it's worth guys I had installed the sprint retail rom with gps support and then almost immedately 5055ish nuerom and had that running for MONTHS and could barely get the gps to lock ever. I mean it was to the point where in a car in wide open terrain I would have to hold it up to the window to get it to lock and it would still take 1-2mins at LEAST for never more than 4-5 sats (and would consistently lose and regain tracking). I have since installed the beta sprint rom and let customizations run was getting locks within 5 seconds in my house (where I could NEVER get a lock before) with 5-9 sats. I installed 5060 nuerom shortly after and now consistently get locks within 5 seconds everywhere I go (similarly to the beta rom I imagine as it was doing this for me when I had it. My friend (who ran the retail gps rom by the way so it's not just the beta rom/etc) would tell me stories of this I never believed it was as amazing as he made it sound. Maybe I didn't let the customizations run on the retail rom? Anyways, I now know how good the gps really can be, I always get locks now, have yet to find a building it doesn't work in (although I don't really try it in high rises or anything), and get locks at AMAZING speeds. I have been running this for a while now, and can say without a doubt that it is a complete 180. I used to carry my bluetooth gps receiver along sometimes because it was far superior to the phone's gps but now this is simply not the case and this is ridiculously better than my bluetooth gps is or ever was. I had no idea the phone's gps could get this good! I have never had an instance where I did not get a lock in 5-10 seconds now and always with a large number of satellites. I'm not sure if this enabled some type of assisted mode or what, but if you are having slow locks, people are not exaggerating, the phone really can lock ridiculously fast with a lot of satellites. It was hard for even my bluetooth gps (with sirf III) to get a lock in my house at all, and now this thing will ALWAYS lock in under 5 seconds in my house. This includes a cold start after a soft reset, happened the first time I ever tried it, and after not using the gps for several days.

I can't say for sure what I did that fixed the problem, but I can say for 100% sure that if you are in the same boat as I was, there is an answer, the phone is very capable of having an amazing gps, people are NOT exaggerating.

On a side note: I have never ran ppst.exe (although maybe the customizations do this for you), have never done the regedit, and do not use quickgps or anything like that (I tried quickgps when I was having problems before and it did not seem to help). My friend was getting locks like this way before as I mentioned too with the retail rom as well. Neither of us have done any of these things. I think the answer may be to let the customizations run or do like I did and install the beta rom first let the customizations run and check for yourself.

I'm not sure what's going on here... but this is what I've done so far:
- flashed Sprint leaked... skipped customizations
- opened File Explorer, went to \windows -> show all files
- installed the PPST cab
- ran PPST.exe
- it said "Failed to backup EFS" and rebooted.
- downloaded the Sprint_PPST.cab from this thread
- installed, it gave me a bunch of warnings saying it's already installed... i continued.
- it said install of the CAB failed.
- I ran PPST.exe again. This time it worked and rebooted.
- Here's the very interesting part::::
When it rebooted I had the new PRI and everything still working (phone, network, etc)???
WTF?

- I flashed a PPCkitchen ROM, then hard reset before the new OS loaded.
- Google Maps still shows the same number of satellites as before for the same position (3-5). Any ideas or comments?
Alright! I found my MSL using getspc(walk in the park) and turned that on my first flash attemp ever, i was a noob of course and i read so much prior to flashing that when i installed the Alltell rom, I did run the ppst.cab and .exe. NOw i see that my pri is the same as in the picture you posted above.

I am a bell user too and i didnt have any problem at all with phone or internet! I might attempt to flash to 3.37.15 since people seem to say it works better. Also, i am running OMJ custom rom sprint version 2.

Thanks for the help all

How did you get around the *22803 issue when it asks if you are a Sprint user, and to enter your phone number?

Re: Sprint still having GPS problems? Try this!

Man am I happy to have read this post!=D> Non-working GPS was one of the things that was going to cause me to switch back to my Mogul from my Touch.

Originally, I could barely get the maps on Google Maps to appear. So...I found this thread and tried to run the PPST file but got an error message saying "update failed". I then downloaded the cab file from the bottom of page #14 and installed it. Ran PPST again and viola...no error message. I just got 8 sats in under 5 seconds on the bottom floor of my house. Smmmmokin!

1) Download, install and run the sprint ppst
2)Obtain your MSL
3)##786# and click menu>reset. Enter your MSL
4)*22803>option 2
5)*22803>option 1
6)flash your desired rom

Without doing 2>5, you will get damn annoying IOTA errors, but everything still works. Good Luck

So if I have already flashed the rom I want (running OMJ's sprint v2 rom) can I run the ppst file and then do the other steps? Will this reset everything? Also in regards to steps 4 and 5, is that an actual number that I call in my dialer? Would this be the same for bell mobility?

Cheers!

Sounds like a fix has been found for us long suffering Vzw suckers?

Any updates on how to get this going?

1. Where to download the appropriate Sprint ppst.exe?
2. Is this trick cool on Vzw touch's?
3. Whats a MSL

Many thanks!

On the what's a MSL part, i asked the question in the thread above and someone told me to get the software call getspc(just google it). Then you take a number sticked under your battery and place it in the software and it gives you your MSL, make sure you capitalize what is capitalized...
