Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

Hi

My provider, Bell Mobility (Canada) charges me for any Ringtones I download. If I unlock my cell phone, does it mean that I will be able to upload ringtones myself without having to download them from Bell ?

Thanks

Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

Excellent thread and will attempt later today.

However to avoid any confusion, the HTC Touch does not have a GPS Antenna - it uses Assisted GPS to obtain a fix - that means that it uses the radio to get signals from Cell Towers and NOT from Satellites in the sky.

That's why you normally only see 4 'satellites' listed in the software - it's rare that you will see more than 4 or 5 cell towers from your location.

It works better outside because you get more signal from the towers - you don't need a clear view of the sky to get A-GPS and it should work just fine in your car.

Thumbs up Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

I just have a quick question about this thread.
Will this work for the Verizon XV6900?
I have been reading post after post and I want to get it right before I blow this phone up. Just got it last week.
Thanks for all the advise and keep up the good work

Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

I need a sprint rom that will allow gps and some instructions to go with it and step by step installation walkthoughs. I will be willing to give activation codes for spb software that I have purchased for the rom and instructions. You can im me on yahoo under asu76904 or leave me a message on here. I leave yahoo running on my phone and usually get on here every hour to check messages. If possible, i would like the rom file to be ran like when I used to own the mogul and updated the rom that way. I currently own a touch and that is what I am wanting to update from current rom1.12.651.1 and radio version of 2.13.00

Yes it will work on the XV6900. I did it, and everything worked as described - just make sure you follow the instructions EXACTLY!!

Now, I say that, and yet now, at the end of the day, after having let it go to standby mode, I can't get it to lock. I've tried everything, and now, GPSViewer can't even find the comport (4).

I know there have been threads about restarting the GPS after standby, but I need to know how to get COM 4 working again.

Any suggestions anyone?

Smile Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

Are these the steps you followed?
Things to download:
- Newest Alltel ROM: http://216.139.227.226/alltel/RUU_Vo...SpecialNBH.exe
- ImCokeMan's 2.31 Unlocker: http://rapidshare.com/files/11019074...r_MFG_2.31.exe
- Unlocking Files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...02&postcount=3
- GPS Files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...87#post2143987

Now for the fun part....
1) Connect your phone to your computer and establish an ActiveSync connection.
2) Run the Vogue_unlocker_MFG_2.31.exe on your computer and follow all of the prompts (including when to disconnect the USB cable and reconnect).
3) After you get into Windows, do the Power-Camera-Reset to get into ImCokeMan's Bootloader (the rainbow screen).
4) Run the Alltel ROM exe file (follow all prompts).
5) DO A SOFT RESET BEFORE THE CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN or you will not have an internet connection.
6) Install the 3 unlocking files
7) Soft reset
Install the GPS cab (to the device if asked)
9) Soft reset

Now to check settings:
- Go to Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Services > Location Settings > Make sure its set to ON.
- Start > Settings > System > GPS > GPS Program Port is 4, Hardware Port is None, Baud Rate is 4800, Access is set to automatically

Now there are a variety of programs out there to test GPS, so choose one, go outside and wait for up to 5-10 minutes for it to get its first lock. Sometimes it happens quick, sometimes it can take a while. Make sure your program is set to Com 4 for GPS.

Thanks....

Re: How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

I followed the instructions above. Everything seems went well.
But when I tried to use Google Map with "use GPS", here is the message says on right top corner:
GPS Active (0)...
Seeking GPS Satellites(0)...
And nothing happened. I left the phon like that like for a long time and same message.
Am I missing something or is there any settings to change?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Here are some Device Information which might be very useful for you guys to troubleshoot
ROM Version: 3.04.671.2
ROM Date: 04/09/08
Radio Version: 3.37.10
Protocol Version: DCAAXAM-4350H
And
GPS Program Port - COM4
GPS Hardware Port: None
Baud Rate: 4800
Manage GPS Automatically is checked
Thanksss

PLease check the following
Under Settings>Personal>Phone>Services>Get Settings....>that the LOCATION ON is checked, not 911 ONLY. This will stop your GPS from working

Yes, the location is set to "ON".
What do I check next?
