Ok, I have read all i can find on the unlockers and I am confused about something. I have service thru cellular south which has the gps disabled in my Touch. Why would they disable it? Is the 2.31 unlocker only for devices that ALREADY have gps or can I use it to load a rom that enables gps on my device?

IDK Stupid carriers make stupid decisions.. Sprint had GPS disabled for awhile and Verizon still does!

But yes the 2.31 unlocker CAN be used when you do NOT have GPS but you should flash to a GPS Radio and a Custom GPS enabled ROM after you unlock with 2.31

Thanks dette, I have been cooking roms on my Apache for a long time but been kinda nervous about tweaking my Touch since I can't seem to find a stock rom to return to if it doesn't work. So the gps will work after I unlock with 2.31 and load a gps rom? Cool!

Yes GPS will work after you do that
but make sure you upgrade your radio before flashing to a custom ROM or you will get a Semi brick and have a little trouble fixing it... (I have helped people fix it)
So you will need to flash to the Alltel, Bell, or Sprint ROM to get the higher radio version.. Make sure you poke the reset whole before customizations run or you are really Effed.
Then flash to the ROM of your choice

When you say turn back on are you referring to getting past the initial welcome screen or no power?

Well i started to unlock the phone and it seemed to work and now the phone is now starting up and staying on the screeen that shows the HTC logo iin the middle of the screen right before your phone boots up.

Does not even reconize my phone while pluging it into the usb port like the device is not even there.

I ran into the same problem. I used this and this got me back on the road.

It was this process that got me to a usable and stable phone using NFSFANs ROM as the final flashed ROM
