you can just go ahead and run the alltel ppst cab and exe now :) of course if you want a custom rom just cuz you want it custom-done, then you will need to unlock and flash, but if its gps you're looking for, that should do ya! :)

good luck and feel free to stop back and ask any more questions, keep us posted!

you were able to perform this step then correct?:
"#10- navigate to \windows folder and run ppst.exe"

thx for the info! :) glad it worked out well for you :)

Well, I found the ppst.cab in the windows directory and ran it on the phone. I'm not sure I found the .exe file, but I did click on another windows file titled ppst. Still no gps! Is there more I need to do...maybe download an updated ppst file or will I have to flash a gps enabled rom? HELP!! Thanks,

Ed

After spending more time perusing this marvelous forum, I decided to take the plunge and unlock my Touch and flash a cooked ROM. I used cokeman's unlocker and followed jim's instructions to the letter and voila! I have a hot new rom and lots of new toys to play with including active gps! You guys are great!

Jim, after updating my rom using your instructions, and enjoying it immensely, I did discover that the gps was a bit finicky. In another area of this forum, there was a lengthy discussion about running the ppst cab in my Windows directory. The forum discussion hinted that the rom installation did not allow time for the user to run the cab file. After running ppst.cab, I have GREATLY improved gps both inside and outdoors! If this is the case for all of us, maybe that should also be in the OP. Just my $.02. Thanks for all your work.

glad you got it working, although i just wanted to make it clear that it is in the OP. if all the directions are followed correctly that is what you will achieve :)

Through much tribulation, was able to get the ROM loaded! :headbang:

If you have trouble using Vista to update the firmware with the newly-released executable from HTC's site, maybe my story can help you out:

I am using the officially released ROM version (3.03.651.4) released today.

I initially tried updating using the EXE from the Sprint Touch page on HTC's site. I followed the steps to the tee (establishing ActiveSync connection first and then installing the RUU executable), however I ran into trouble. I was using a Vista machine to execute the update to the Touch. I began the update process. As soon as the device appeared to have "flashed" itself, Vista immediately showed a "new hardware found" bubble. The flashing of the phone obviously caused Vista to lose its recognition of the phone mid-process and therefore interrupted the connection. ](*,)

The new hardware bubble eventually resolved itself and reported that my hardware was ready to use (thanks a lot, Vista!), but the RUU obviously reported a connection error. I didn't touch the phone or the cable but just tried re-executing the RUU. The "new device" (to Vista) was able to keep its connection as the RUU executed. This time I got as far as 10% into the upgrade when I received a "[328] Invalid Command" error. "$@%!#%^"

I tried running the RUU executable once again but got as far as 0% at which point the device continued to returned to the bootloader screen, and the RUU reported the same "[328] Invalid Command" error.

I was able to use the MicroSD storage-card method to update it. Opening the executable with WinRAR I was able to extract the "2.nbh" file. I formatted my storage card (after backing it up) to FAT32 partitioning although it was already in this file system (to start fresh). I copied the single "2.nbh" file to the storage-card and renamed it to "VOGUIMG.NBH". I then inserted the card into the device (with battery removed), inserted the battery, and pressed the power button to display the bootloader screen (RBGW bars).

The device immediately updated. I didn't have to touch a thing. Before I knew it, I was powering up and everything was perfect! No need to load any PRLs or run any other executables as all that stuff seems to be either included in the NBH or downloaded over the network, even though these files were also found separately in the executable. Activation took place automatically.

A special thanks to the previous authors for instructions in using the storage-card method.

Anyone?? Im not finding anything on this error and Im sure others must have come across it. Whats happening is the ActiveSync drops a connection when the coloured bars come on the screen. Its like the USB stops working at that point. The phone recognizes that a usb cable has been plugged in but the computer is not recognizing the connection. No matter when I restart ActiveSync when it closes, it still doesnt work. Can anyone help?

Ok, Ive tried usuing different unlockers and different methods. Neither the RUU or updating via the sd card works. When I run the RUU, it seems to go through but then windows chimes and the usb connection drops and ActiveSync closes but then 2 seconds later Windows chimes again as if the phone was detected but nothing happens. If I try to update via the micro sd, the phone freezes at a grey screen with 'Loading. . .' in blue accross the top. I have two touches that Im trying this on and both are getting the same results. Is there anyone who can give me a hand pleeeease!?!?
