We need to wait another week or so to make sure all of the DST data has flushed from the QuickGPS database to test again, but so far it looks like QuickGPS is Dead...

I am surprised about the date of the file being important, but if it work, do it...

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

I'm starting to hate HTC's phones I'm wondering if I should try the new Telus HSPA+ networks with the iPhone or something. Seems much more stable than Windows mobile phone ... :/ or maybe stay with HTC but taking a Hero with Google Android. I will try something like "My GPS is not even working... gimme another phone" hehe

Nah damn it won't works. Telus can see that I don't use their own navigator so they'll know that I've modified my phone

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

I was also hoping that the DST change would fix it but it hasn't. Thankfully the xtra.bin file was posted and that has allowed me to continue to use the GPS function

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

QuickGPS rebreaks the gps upon download. Re-re-downloaded the xtra.bin, fixed. I'm using SeaSGEE for now, which isn't breaking my GPS with the file it downloads, and speeds up lock ons.

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

I was just about to do a hard reset on my device when I checked this forum. I am having the exact same problem with my phone. Google Maps either locks it up or restarts it. Sprint Nav works fine, though ????

I'll have to go back through the 10 pages and see what you all did.

your right.

it works now.

before i just copyed the file over, and it kept the same date as the original poster's date.

but you have to use todays date.

so i just used NOTEPAD.EXE and opened the file then save it again,

this re-save caused the CREATION date of the file to be todays date, and now it works.

save to \windows and \temp

Re: Does GPS ever just 'go bad'?

It is interesting that Palm Treo Pro also has this GPS problem:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93992

So it isn't isolated to just HTC.

You're lucky. Don't use NOTEPAD it will corrupt the file (Both XP and Win 7).

To safely trigger the date change without changing contents.

Open a DOS Window (Command Prompt) and CD to where you have the file then just type

copy xtra.bin+,,

That will basically copy a NEW file to itself and change the date.
Then copy it down to \Windows and \Temp on your phone.

i was useing windows 7,

that version of notepad.exe has a ENCODING option, just set it to ANSI and not unicode or unicode bigendion or utf8 cuz that will kill it for sure. (i think)

but that ULTRA EDIT text editor is free to download form google.com
