Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

For those of you that are using the online advanced exchange have you been getting a refurb tp1 or a nib tp1? The Replacement Phone Model shows up as "UTStarcom Touch Pro". Does that mean nib or is there a possibility of a refurb? I used the advanced exchange in January to get the tp i have now and it was nib. I believe it said "UTStarcom Touch Pro" back then but I am not sure. If there is a chance of a refurb I may have to just drive 30 miles to the closest Sprint store and try for a tp2.

As of right now I would be happy with getting a tp1 that works how it is supposed to as I have everything set how I like it (rom and other things). This will be my 3rd tp1 if I use advanced exchange. After that I will be trying for a tp2.

Some info that might be useful to someone, After trying for over 2 weeks to use the advanced exchange and getting errors every time I decided to try it with internet explorer today instead of firefox and it worked.](*,)

Unfortunately, you don't know if it'll be NIB until it ships and you get the confirmation email. I've had it say UTStarcom Touch Pro and I got a refurbed model. AE is really a crapshoot, but... the odds of getting it new are greater on there than through a retail store.

Sprint Business Premier would not give me a TP2, but I did get NIB TP1, again, 4th phone, I have a stack of accessories and batteries now!

New phone is OK so far, but only time will tell.

I spoke with about 10 people at Sprint, Consumer business, retention, they all refused the TP2.

a couple people did it all wrong and sprint's on to it now. asurion was even doing it and now they've stopped and only offer the tp now.

From here on out, I will NEVER go back into a corporate sprint store. i will only deal with 3rd party stores. If you have a legitament complaint, i would suggest a 3rd party repair center. I give this one two thumbs up.

Got my call this morning. i already picked up a third refurb tp1, this one works great sofar. The lady at the 3rd party store still INSISTED that i get the tp2. She said it will be in tomorrow. i hope it is a NIB, but either way, it's a tp2!

Just to recap. Go to the 3rd party stores, if available. And the tp2's are still out there.:headbang:

Usually, if its going to be NIB, it will say something like "customer kit" in with the description. At least, that's how I remember it when I got my TP back in Jan/Feb thru the AE form.

No problem! Just trying to help! Truthfully once I notice that it is dependent on the store and not the list I got discouraged and stopped for a while! Then I went in just trying to get a TP that worked and was gonna be happy with that!

It all worked out for the better!

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Keep at it - it's definitely YMMV at this point. Like anything worthwhile, persistence pays off.

I got lucky and got the call this morning, my TP2 will be in tomorrow afternoon.

I don't know how the system works - I was in last week and was offered the usual phones EXCEPT the TP2, so I left the store with my regular Touch Pro in hand. I called Sprint to see if they had any advice and they called the local store on my behalf to see why I wasn't offered a TP2, because it wasn't in stock it turns out. So the local store said they'd order it for me, but I wasn't sure if it was fact, if it was ordered at that time, if I was placed on a list or whatever. I still don't know - it's possible it's back in stock in their system today and they ordered it this morning - they'd told me in the past that ordering a phone before 4pm gets it in the next day. I'm just thankful for the upgrade, hopefully it's not a refurb.

My experience echoes jdmcivicguy - The guys at the 3rd party store were very helpful.

I just watched PhoneDog's unboxing of the TP2 - I'm happy it has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Sweet! And a SIM card? Welcome to the 21st century!

Now, what's an easy way to get the MSL code from them? Tell them there's a Windows Mobile update that requires it?

Yep, they were in stock. i talked a while with the rep that called me from the 3rd party store. She said it is basically hit or miss. What she does is check periodically throughout the day(with the best luck early in the morning and early in the week), and if they are in stock she orders a few. She also said that the bnib one's are easier to get right now, so hopefully that is what i will get, along with the rest of you. Just keep trying.

I am playing the waiting game right now too. I brought mine in today and they agreed that it is not working properly. They are happy to order the TP2 for me, but it was not in stock. I was hoping to get lucky. I guess I will just keep my eyes peeled on the post to see if anyone has an update. My case might be difficult as I am on the West coast as well. It would be great if there was a way to receive a text if someone found out that they were in stock otherwise this game might take a long time :)

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

so i just called and my TP is having issues, 3rd one i have here. they said they cant replace with anything else other than a touch pro. I said can i upgrade, they said it might be $100-150 extra. I said i am interested. then they come back and tell me it would be $500 with the $75 discount. WTF!

Next i say, what other options would there be, this is my 3rd TP and i dont want another one sent to me. They say no other options until i have 1 more replacement phone sent to me. So i said ok, well can you send a replacement TP then. they say sure. as I am waiting, they said they can replace with an HTC Snap or a Blackberry... ???huh? I said that would be a down grade, so no.

Got another TP sent to me, but I really dont want it. I am hoping when this one breaks to get a TP2.....

Anyone have luck in Denver?

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I was told that as of the first of the month the TP2 was no longer being offered as a replacement, since people were taking advantage of the offer. Since my TP lost the display last Saturday, I was offered a variety of smartphones to replace it, but nothing comparable in value to the TP. So, I called Sprint and had to fight on the phone for more than 2 hours to just get them to replace my TP with a refurb.

So, to all those who made up stories just so you could get a new toy, thanks for screwing us that really did need a new one. :disgust:

called *2 on sunday.... had the backlight/freezing issues and wifi kept locking up the phone if it was on for more than 5 minutes. They sent me out a refurb TP which i got today. Plugged in and used mymobiler while working to reload all of my apps and such onto it. unplugged to go home and tried to answer a text, the keyboard was locked up, tried to pop the center of it from the battery compartment, which helped it from not working to working randomly. so i drove to the sprint store. 10 minutes later and the girl said we are getting you into a different phone...

i think oh great, they are going to try and push a BB on me.... she says that they are going to get me a TP2. i play dumb and ask, "it has a touchscreen, keyboard and winmo right?".

Yep..... all without ever saying anything about the wel or memos or anything... maybe its not a ruined system after all. oh and it should be in thursday, which means that TP2's are in stock at the sprint warehouse??

This is happening to me now. I lost my display last Saturday as well and they are trying to offer me these smart phones that are not in any way comparable to the TP. They are telling me they can't send me out another TP. I refuse to take any of these BS smart phones they are trying to throw at me.

I took my wifes tp in on sat as it had several problems with it. The rep replaced it with a brand new touch pro 2 no questions asked, took a matter of 15 minutes. It was ordered and came in today, she loves it.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

The two touch pros we received via advanced exchange had some severe issues (even though, as near as I can tell, they were in remarkable condition):

Touch Pro #1: Got EXTREMELY hot with only begin plugged in to charge and watching a video via the youtube application. (Also, a few keys on the keyboard work sporadically)
Touch Pro #2: Problems with calls, receiving text messages, and data simply not working AT ALL.

Used advanced exchange again tonight to request new TPs.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I'm done with Sprint. Pre-ordering Droid tomorrow.

They went back on their multiple promises to me. Offer me the device in writing, tell me I can't have it, then promise me it will be ordered and shipped that day, then next day be told it can't be done. Games, games, games. After 15 hours in one day of waiting on them, dealing with them, being on hold, and going through hell I get screwed over. The so called "value" isn't worth it anymore, especially when your phone won't make phone calls!

I'm guessing it is the people who broke their phones on purpose that caused this issue. I don't care, it's really not fair for Sprint to make multiple promises and go back on them no matter the situation. Their customer service is really bad, just wish I had caught it earlier.

Avareyne, I can totally feel your pain on all the problems you have had recently. I am not going to question you or call you a liar I just find it hard to believe you have these statements in writing and can't find anyone willing to help. It's been stated many times over that it just depends on the rep you get on the phone. I would just call Sprint and ask for account services and explain what you have going on and the statements you have in writing. I'm sure someone there would be willing to listen. Or you can try emailing customer care, once they respond there is no limit as to how large of an email you can send them. Show them your written proof and see if they budge. I do not work for sprint and will agree that there service can be lacking a lot of the time. But once you find that rep who is willing to work with you it's worth it.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

SO I had my TP replaced about a month ago, well actually two days aftetr this thread started, because the screen went out. They ordered me a refurb TP. I tried to get them to swap but no luck. This was at a corp store here in the Nashville area. I then tried a third party store and they could nto get in to order anything because I guess the corp store already had. SO I picked up the refurb. Three or four days ago the D-pad started peeling off. I stopped by this morning to have them check on it. I was waiting and the tech guy just walked up and handed me a nother phone. I guess they had refurb TP in stock so I got another one. I messed with it for a minute and then left. I get to work and try to turn the volume down and the rocker doesnt work. You ahve to push it in just the right location for it to change the ring volume. SO I guess i will see how long this one lasts. maybe it jsut needs to be broken in a little. The corp store never even offered swapping to another phone.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

So I take it by reading this thread that I should go to a 3rd party store to have a chance at getting a TP2 instead of a TP. I am currently in Manhattan KS (66506) and was wondering if there was anyone with any recommendations of a store to visit here.
I did a store locator search on sprint.com and it came up with 2 stores.
1. Sprint Store By Wireless Lifestyle
2. Sprint Store

Would the 1st store be a better choice even though on sprints website it doesn't have "repair"?
The second store has "# Replacements (by mail)"

Also, what are the odds of it happening in the College Station, Texas store?

I know there's at least one employee that reads these boards.

GPS would not work. Took TP to the corporate repair store and asked them to take a look. 20 min later tech came out and said he ordered me a TP2. Nothing else said. Never mentioned anything about exchange, just asked to fix the GPS issue. Picked up new TP2 3 days later.

I provided the session ID to multiple reps who confirmed the offer but always told I'd get a call back from a supervisor within a few hours. Didn't happen. My boyfriend and I both pre-ordered Droid's today from Best Buy. I'm going to greatly miss WM but I need a working phone and don't think I should have to get TP after TP after TP. I might try again today and see what happens, but I don't see them fixing the issue.

the key is acting like you only want a tp. if you insist on not getting one, they will make things difficult. just try different reps, trust me, this works.

I believe the address is 8000 East Quincy Ave. They did not offer me the TP2 from the start. They listed the other phones from the WEL list minus the TP2. I then told her my story about the over the phone reps promising me a TP2. I told her to check the notes on my account verifying this and she came back with a order form showing she ordered me a TP2.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I just got off the phone with Sprint. I told them my TP has been locking up on occasion and the keyboard has been an issue. they offered to replace it with a TP, HTC snap, blackberry curve or Palm Treo. I asked if I could get a TP2 and she said the system wouldn't let her do that. I kindly asked to speak to a supervisor, after a short wait the sup picked up the phone and explained to me again that they don't have the power to give me a TP.

He DID suggest that if I can get the phone into a sprint store (nearest one is 50 minutes away :-( that they might be able to get me into a TP2. I pushed the guy saying I have a business plan with 3 phones, all TP's and 2 have already been replaced, and that im a sprint premiere member, but none of this worked....

They did however offer to send me a touch pro free of charge. I guess its better then nothing.... the sup apologized several times and admitted they have ahd several problems with the TP's but he kept saying they don't have the power to get me a TP2 as their system won't allow it. he said if the new TP starts to have problems he suggest I go to the nearest sprint store at that time and try to get them to give me a TP2.

I say yes because the heat causes premature battery drain and will prevent charging. Also, heat is never a friend of electronics/computers. Eventually, the heat will cause some more significant damage.

With mine, when it gets really hot, my bluetooth shuts off automatically, my ringers get screwed up, my charging stops, the battery drains, and often the device freezes. I've returned twice for this already. The 3rd one is slowly starting to show these same issues.
