Finally i gave up and just decided to stick with my beloved TP so i just went to closest sprint corp store(not 3rd party) and insisted that they fix it and not replace with crap phone or another TP. They fixed the keyboard and i was happy off. 2 Days later keyboard died again, went to same store again - fixed. about 5 days later the screen just got stuck in landscape mode, went to same store again and repair guy(same one that fixed it 2se before) told me i should really get a replacement since my TP's inside ribbon was quite worn out(his words), i said no way i dont want crappy snap and such, he said - what about if i can get you new(not refurbished) TP? i said no again since i have screen protector on mine and didnt feel like buying new one, rep said said what about if i can get you refurbished TP2? i said no again, he looked on computer again and asked what about bnib TP2? i said no just fix my damn TP i am tired of coming here. He went on back again and said he will try to fix it, 40 mins later he came out and said that unfortunatly my TP is beyond repair. I was quite mad at that point and he called the repair manager, that guy was very cool and we made a deal - i exchange my Tp for BNIB TP2 + Plantronics BT set(one thats $139 at sprint store). I finally got fed up and took the deal. When i picked it up the next day the same manager told me about HTC Spartan(leo/HD2) will be available for current TP owners as the replacement by christmas of this year. Damn i should have refused but oh well i will just buy HD2 when it comes out and sell TP2 on ebay i guess. My point is if you dont mention the replacement for TP2 and just want to have your TP fixed - eventually u will be offered TP2 as replacement and even BNIB! I wonder if anyone read this whole post, my bet is a no:)

damm dude a bluetooth and a tp2 bnib! Sprint is good, is just that some reps customer service is lacking, glad you got everything + a bag of chips sorted out.

Buy Sprint stock people it's cheap now!! WiMax + 'new anytime any mobile' will blow up and catapult Sprint stock up.

anyway did anybody catch the bold part? I thought the HD2 was rumored to be called the HTC Adonis, now it's called the HTC Spartan and on top of that it will be the replacement for the TP1, yeah right, I think the manager was testing your dissatisfaction with the TP1 lol and wanted to see you squirm to change back :drunken:lol...I calling BS on the HTC Spartan comment spewed by the manager...good stuff.

now  let's see how many people hold off on exchanging the crappy tp1 for the HTC Spartan/Adonis...gtf :evil4:

Yes, if you are like me and only have a cell phone then echat will work with you. I just have them speak with tech support for me due to getting constant disconnects/dropped calls when in the middle of speaking to them. They offered me the TP2 (along with a bunch of others, including the Tour) but it was backordered so I go back every couple days to ask if it is in stock yet. This is nice because you have an actual LOG of them offering it to you. Which might be beneficial if it is still out of stock and you want to try a store (bring a copy).

Be nice and let them know you appreciate them calling for you. And I am asking that everyone not do this if you do actually have another phone to use.

Has anyone actually used the Advance Exchange site recently? When I try it out, it only offers another Touch Pro. But I was wondering whether, when the order gets to the warehouse, someone might look at Sprint's current policy statement and say, "We're supposed to be replacing the Touch Pro with something else."

So has anyone actually received a Touch Pro replacement through the Advance Exchange site recently (since the notorious memo was leaked)?

I did 2 weeks ago. It was sent a refurb touch pro, but seems to work better than my old one I sent back(for now)

I just did it a few days ago, the phone should arrive tomorrow (both for me and my wife who were both having issues). We will see what we get tomorrow.

as far as i know, only the advanced tech people on *2 were doing the exchanges. some stores will, but i've been told that your account must be noted by advanced tech support. i am glad i did mine when i did because too many people are saying and doing the wrong things and i see this being stopped very soon!

No way. That is completely false, and something Sprint is "leaking" to manager's to keep people in their original Touch Pro's, and from having to dish out a NIB TP2...maybe he was hoping you'd take him up on that and wait....

EXACTLY! A lady at a sprint store told me about the HD2 (she called something else but I forgot)! Back about 3 weeks ago she told me I couldn't exchange my TP for a TP2, told me they couldn't order it & they wouldn't have them till January along with other reasons! She told me they were releasing the HD2 (she called it something else) before christmas!

My bet is...........sprint knows the HD2 is coming! Maybe when the HD2 comes out they will stop exchanging TPs for any device, then they tell you that when it comes out you can exchange it for a HD2 hoping that you will wait! Then when the HD2 comes out your S.O.O.L.! but yeah, I wouldn't believe that for anything!

Ok so I finally have 2 of my TP's exchanged for TP2. The last one in the Redmond WA Sprint store. I was really polite as was the gentleman who helped me. I was getting a real run around at the Overlake Sprint store. I talked to the guy at the Redmond store and he apologized and said just come in and I will swap you for NIB out of stock. I went in and it was handled with in 15 mins. Great service knew his stuff. Said its policy to swap these out anytime there is a problem and the customer wants out. They want those phones gone. Anyway PM me with any questions as I won't be checking back here. Off to the TP2 forums :)
Good luck everyone.

Pretty much told the truth. Dropped calls and disconnections with tech support lead me to echat. They asked me what problems I was having with the phone, I told the truth, and mentioned I already had replacements of BNIB TP's. Problem with me getting to the store is no car, and I am in a town where I don't really know anyone, so they were helpful there. I have already conversed with my local store who also said on a 3-way phone call that my phone could and should be replaced with a different model, he recommended the TP2. I might stop by the store when I can get a ride again since my account is noted and see if they will order me one so I don't have to call Sprint daily.

I went to the sprint store today since my chrome cracked on my TP, I was heard that it was a free repair since it's a known issue with the touch pros but I find out I had to pay 119 for it so I said naw....

Dude was a **** and I didn't even ask him about the TP2 and I'm glad I didn't.

I had purchased a touch pro 2 from sprint October 8 and then returned it the next day because somebody on craigslist had a htc hero early that I purchased instead. I ended up selling the hero a couple days ago (not my thing) switched to a junk blackberry and then lost it. So I called asurion reported a lost phone and they asked wich one? I guess because I apparently had a few phones on my account in the last couple of weeks, I told them the blackberry but the lady decided to send me a tp2 instead seeing it was on my account and I didn't have it. Ofcourse I didn't tell her no but at the same time I never lost a touch pro 2 I returned it to sprint. Anybody know if I would be getting in trouble for this or would they?

I had the same issue with a repair center. They claimed my cracked chrome was physical damage and they couldn't help me. They said I had to file a claim with assurion and pay the $100 deductible. Instead of doing that I filed an advanced exchange on sprints website. (If you enter zipcode 95932) it will allow you to place an order instead of directing you to take your phone into the closest repair center). I was sent a refurbished (but in really good shape) touch pro free of charge. It's no TP2 but better than having a beat up touch pro IMO.

I am currently waiting for TP2's to come back in stock at the warehouse for exchanges.

My TP has been slowly fading away, buttons below the screen no longer function (makes phone almost impossible to use for calling out), locks up at least once a day and now takes 15 minutes from reboot to fully load TF3D.

Anyone hear any word from a Sprint Rep when or if TP2's will be back in stock for exchange? Everyone I talk to seems to have no issues with the exchange for a TP2 but they just aren't in stock. I don't really want another (this is my third) TP.

@ iron, you should call *2 and talk to tech support. they will then send you to a repair center. it is there that they will order a tp2 and it should come next day, if not 3-5 days.

Been there, done that. They can't order a TP2 unless it is instock as it won't show up as a replacement option. I don't really want a Blackberry or Palm, so I am playing the waiting game now. Just going to have to bug my local repair center every few days I guess.

same here...I have a TP and the End Call button does not function..took it in for repair (and hopeful upgrade to TP2) rep told me they would replace for a few phones in store and when asked about tp2 he said they would but are currently not in stock..so I guess it's a waiting game then...:???:

I work for UPS as a "swing driver," which means I'm rarely in the same area. While I rely on old fashion maps 99% of the time, the 1% of the time I need GPS, I NEED GPS.

My GPS quit working last Thursday.

I went to my local ASC & was given the choice of "Any Blackberry you want," a Treo 850 or the HTC Snap. All of them have the BB form with the keyboard in the front, so I didn't want any of them. I asked if there was any other option & he said the TP2 will be an option at some point in the future, but as of right now, none are available... he's thinking it's just a back order situation.

Patience?

I also asked if there was an Android option, to which he said no. I'm going to try a hard reset to see if that resolves things, but hate having to set my phone back up the way I like it.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Anyone trying to do an advanced exchange is now going to face Sprint telling them that the Touch Pro 2 is not available as an exchange for the Touch Pro.

Sprint has been trying to tell me this all day. Luckily they allowed me to forward my chat transcript and others have looked it up but they still are trying to figure it out. If someone offers you this phone be sure to get it in writing and prepare for a battle. I have been dealing with this for 3 hours now.

I really just think I am going to get the Droid and switch carriers. The cheapness of my monthly plan and the overage relief isn't feeling like quite enough anymore.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Went through the online chat customer service, regular phone customer service, and then technical customer service to see if I could get THEM to figure out the GPS issue. None could. I was offered a TP1 by technical customer service and the online TEP replacement form offered me a TP1, as well.

The original theory for them offering the TP2 was that they weren't making the TP1, anymore, and the TP2 was the default Sprint replacement for it. It would seem to me that first, the TP1 is still available and second, the TP2 is NOT the default replacement. The default replacement is the TP1 (refurbed) or "any Blackberry, Treo 850 or HTC Dash" per the local service center.

In time, though, the TP1 will disappear because they're not making them anymore (that's the same thing that happened with the Apache & Mogul.) Then, I suppose, the TP2 will become the default replacement... it seems we're at that tipping point, now. I'll check back in a few weeks.

Your GPS isn't broken. There is a workaround, just replace the Radio on your phone:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...85#post1290785
Quote:

To summarize:
Many people are having problems with their GPS since 10/28/09.

Some symptoms of the problem include the phone crashing and rebooting, the GPS getting lock momentarily then losing it, phone freezing up, no data coming from the GPS COM port, and no GPS device available.

This has been seen across carriers (Verizon, Sprint, USCC, Bell Canada, etc.)
This has been seen across different models and manufacturers (HTC Touch Pro, HTC Touch Diamond, Palm Treo Pro)

Cause
The problem has been partially narrowed down to the data downloaded by the "QuickGPS" app which downloads from the Internet a package of data which helps the GPS obtain a lock faster.

From around 10/28/09 and afterwards the data downloaded by QuickGPS seems to be causing or interacting with the radio causing the symptoms above. Some people theorize this might have something to do with DST but this has not been conclusively verified.

Workarounds:
1) If you are using *Touch Pro*, use the latest Sprint Touch Pro Radio, v1.12.34F (Not sure if the radio would work on Touch Diamond and very likely would brick Palm Treo Pro) This can be downloaded here:

Thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74422
Direct: http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=Touch+Pro%2Fradios%2F&download=Touch +Pro+CDMA+Radio+1.12.34F.exe

This is a self-contained installer which will update your Radio over the USB cable. If you have an unlocked phone and want to update your Radio via SD card method you can open up the .exe in 7-zip and extract RAPHIMG.nbh and update as you would any ROM update.

2) Use an earlier copy of the QuickGPS data set which doesn't exhibit the problem

Thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1278260#post1278260
Direct: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=46633&d=1256910087

psiphi was nice enough to post an earlier copy of the QuickGPS data set which doesn't exhibit the GPS problem. This is the xtra.bin file for QuickGPS 1.0 installations. Newer versions of QuickGPS use "packedEphemeris.ee". That might be just a renaming of xtra.bin or could be a different file format.
To use this workaround

a) start QuickGPS and disable automatic downloads
b) extract the xtra.bin from the above .zip
c) update the date on xtra.bin to today's date using your favorite file manager or equivalent technique
if you don't have one, you can use your PC and filetouch.exe for DOS available here: http://www.softtreetech.com/24x7/archive/47.htm
d) copy the date-modified xtra.bin to your phone, replacing the *two* existing files, \windows\xtra.bin and \temp\xtra.bin
e) reboot your phone

3) If you have a Sprint Touch Pro and don't mind reinstalling everything, you can install the updated Sprint 2.01.651.6 ROM.

This will automatically update your Radio to 1.12.34F. Please note, this will install an updated OS/ROM as well so you will need to reinstall your apps.

This ROM update is available on the HTC site here:
http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=195&cat=2&dl_id=683

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

i like everyone else here have tried and tried to get my hands on a tp2. i have a good friend that is the store manager for my local repair center and sat with him today to find out the scoop. the word is that the tp2 is no longer on the replacement list due to low stock on hand because of the leaked upgrade list. he said that the soonest the tp2 will be available will be late jan to early feb. there are very few nib tp1's available left but TONS of refurbs. so to those of you that got a tp2 then thats awesome, the rest of us get to wait or just buy one. another thought is to switch to att and buy the tilt2, just a thought. maybe next time we shouldnt get cheap and abuse the privelage. i have my 5th tp1 showing up wed. hope this one works till feb at least.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

I am also playing the waiting game. The USB port went bad on my TP, so it wont charge or sync. I got rid of the insurance when they hiked the deductible, but luckily my phone is still under warranty. My repair center agreed to try to get me the TP2, but it is OOS. I will call my them daily just to see if the TP2 is in stock. I have a second line on my account I rarely use, so I will use that for now. I am hoping that they will eventually get tired of me and just order me a NIB one (wishful thinking).

All depends could be considered fraud since you did not lose the TP2. If there are notes saying you returned the TP2 they could charge you full price for the replacement. But who knows, I doubt they would check it

Actually you want to flash a stock rom then relock, if you relock first you cant reflash the stock rom. I have no personal experience but if you don't then it gives them grounds to void your warranty and charge you full price for the refurb so better safe than sorry. I really like my TP1 this is my second one but it's just as nice as the first and I don't mind gettin refurbs as long as they are nice. I like the look of the TP2 but losing the camera flash kinda would annoy me so I think I'm gonna stay put and see what else comes along.

I was able to relock and flash to stock twice on my TP1.. I relocked then did the check to see CMONEX was gone on the boot screen. Then I flashed to the stock rom from Sprint.. Did this again after i unlocked it again to do a few more flashing. This morning I also did the relock first and then flash to stock without any issues.

Learn something new everyday, I think I'll still play it safe and just flash stock first though, thanks for the info though!

This is why I have heard and think relocking and then flash with a SIGNED Stock Sprint Rom, which will flash when locked, will be a good thing...You can still see it is locked after the flash with the ROM.

Re: Sprint replacing Touch Pro with Touch Pro 2!

Received our advanced exchange replacements today. They were both (in remarkably good condition I might add) TP1. I'm actually surprised at the condition they're in, I'd assume they're either new or completely refurbished (not even a scratch on either one).

Sadly, no TP2 through advanced exchange.
