EV never shows its off as it's still receiving the EV signal, the data portion is what turns off. If you have no real use for 3G, you can even force the phone into 1X mode (##778#, MIP Default Profile, Simple IP Only.

On the 6.1 roms, it always says EV when you are in an EV area, but the icon to the right of the EV that indicates signal strength would change from the arrows to the tower when it turned the data off. Don't know what the icons would look like for you.

Not sure if this was related or not, but I did the battery cab install (which I am 99% sure was not the problem) but did do the disconnect after 1 minute adjustment using Adv Config as the tool, and I lost the ability to answer the voice calls, until the data connection dropped. I don't have the exact post but there was a lot of discussion on the problem being changes being made, and adv config making a reg change that caused it, normally your Sprint should show #777 and somehow that gets FUBAR'd to gpsr or something like that.

I ended up doing a hard reset to fix. The combination of the battery cab and disconnect did add to my battery, but I use my phone for a lot of voice as well as data. I didn't want to track that bug down and using a RegEdit tool scares me.

Not here to throw a wrench into the fix being talked about, just my story of a hiccup that hit me. I had other issues as well, GoogleMaps eating CPU.

Still great to see all the efforts and help that everyone does

I should take that back...

Using Adv Config does not close the data connection everytime.

Not sure why.

I checked email once and then left the phone on table, after 3 minutes I checked and the data connection was closed.

Then again I tried the same thing - checked email and left the phone down. Checked phone after 24 minutes and data connection showed still ON...

I am using Mighty ROM 5 (on 6.5)

I changed my setting w/Diamond Tweak and am noticing a HUGE improvement in battery life as a whole!
