activesync via bluetooth not working

I am using vista 64bit with my htc touch pro and I cannot get activesync to work. When I add a bluetooth device to my phone it finds my pc and does it passcode thing and shows activesync as an option. But when I tell activesync to do its thing via bluetooth it comes up and says there is not bluetooth device in range that accepts activesync...
hunh. yah there is..
