Re: HTC lack of support for QTV video driver VGA

Maybe if Qualcomm would release the QTV API, people wouldn't be so pissed about this. As it stands, you have to reverse engineer it.

I see Qualcomm becominga LOT more forthcoming when nVidia Tegra powered phones start kicking the crap out of MSM powered phones with their native H.264/VC-1 720p playback capability in addition to their other GPU rendering capabilities. Especially when this starts happening on HTC platforms.

I don't know who to blame about the landscape issue while streaming hava. Seems Monsoon just wants to put the blame on our phones and not their crappy software.

You're just not getting it. Myself and others aren't telling you to give up. We're telling you that you're going about it the wrong way. HTC doesn't care about these threads or websites, and yes - if you actually searched, you'd find many more similar complaints about this generation of TECH. In order to get change from HTC - you have to vote with your wallet. That's the only thing they care about. That's the opponent you're trying to rally support against, and it's not going to work the way you propose to protest. It's like trying to drive a nail with your hand - and denying the existence of a hammer. I intend to vote with my wallet when I have better options.

As someone else pointed out, it would be awesome if Qualcomm released the drivers when this phone gets it's *** kicked by phones using the Tegra drivers. But I doubt it. I think then they'd get released as part of some new incremental product - for newer phones.

Otherwise - you have to hope other companies (like Coreplayer) decide to reverse engineer the drivers in order to support our phone. But again, that's not HTC - so not relevant to your argument or proposal at all.

The only blame there has to go to whoever wrote the software since the Sling Mobile software works in landscape.

Re: HTC lack of support for QTV video driver VGA

Actually Pollo, I was saying thanks for the WMP tip, that I had not seen before. My "main" issue is not with being able to start and stop a video , I believe that was someone elses "main " issue. Yes, my issue is with HTC and yes , I do believe discussing these issues in a forum like this can bring awareness and change if the right people actually happen to read it. I have complained to HTC. And while I do not like this issue, I still like more things about this phone than other things, I gave the Corvette analagy and that is basically what I mean. It's not an issue about the driver itself its about the control of the driver and the lack of a decent software app to run it. HTC could EASILY just fix the issue by coming up with a better HTC media player, period. This could easily be placed in a subsequent ROM release or an add on.You are right I do not like having to play a video or movie from my picture album, call me strange I guess. You know I didnt start this thread to hear people tell me how HTC economics and thought processes go, or to have someone tell me to be happy with what I have , or to wait for the next model to come out. Oh and if I want to change HTC by not voting with my wallet then it wouldnt matter , because I wouldnt be concerned about this because I wouldnt have the HTC product. I am getting it just fine. I think you just misunderstand . Maybe this isnt the best place or only place to place a thread like this but I do believe it is a valid forum for the subject. There are many threads on video here and for other model phones. I like the phone, i like 95 percent of the way it works. I just do not like the fact that I have a VERY CAPABLE DRIVER included n the phone and I have to use a camera album to play the movie (which allows minimal options) If HTC just came out with a QTV based Media Player that was a true media player, then maybe that would make it a moot point, but they don't have one. Core Player is a nice player and works with so many different media types, that is why it would be nice if the QTV wasnt so protected . And I do hope that Core Player finalizes the reverse engineering so we can enjoy multimedia in a great app . I remember when I got my Mogul, GPS was not enabled . After a while (and after hearing people say quite the same things, like you should have bought a phone with it unlocked) they released a ROM that had it unlocked(after it was unlocked first by a third party of course. Now evidently something made them change it. So by placing this concern here, maybe there is someone out there who may read this and do something ( I am not quite that technically skilled) to change that. Maybe not. But it sure does not hurt to bring out the subject. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease, sometimes not. Either way, at least I am trying to do something other than berate someone else's efforts. I did not buy the phone based on video performance , but that does not mean I cannot ask for or request better performance when i find out the hardware is there and capable....get it??? Voting with the wallet will work if I was totally pissed off if I felt the phone had little value and I was lied to about it. But this is more like buying a car that has power window motors inside the door , yet the maker only put crank handles on there, You know you had crank handles when you bought itm but once you find out there are power window motors there, you want to be able to utilize them. So if that does not make you understand where I am coming from, I am sorry, but the phone is still new, they still support it, there will still be updated roms from the manufacturer or carrier and as long as they still support the phone, there is always a chance that someone could read this or read a complaint to HTC and actually do something like include a full featured HTC media player or similar. I thought a forum was exactly the place to voice something like this . If you feel like I am wasting your time, then just do not read it, it's like TV, change the channel. Lots of people read these forums and to think that HTC or some carriers do not read these here, would be narrow minded. No need to flame on this, if you dont agree just hit the "back" button. If you have good technical info or a better place to send this concern please post it. And if I could change it I would ...Just because I cannot do it myself doesn't mean I need to change my attitude about it. I am sure that this issue will be addressed at some point seeing how many TP's they are selling.Just a matter of keeping it on the minds of enough folks to show them it matters. If anyone knows of a better place other than just regular HTC support to inquire about this, please post the email or site.

Re: HTC lack of support for QTV video driver VGA

I take it WMP does not support 3rd party decoders, otherwise someone would write a DivX decoder for WMP and then we could watch full-motion DivX in WMP.

There's api support to add them, but its not popular it would appear...

Digging around, here are some codec add ins..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366471

There are some references on msdn/microsoft to the api, but I didn't dig deeply as I'm not familiar with the WMP api....

Re: HTC lack of support for QTV video driver VGA

This'll be the last I post on this thread - but it just doesn't bode well when the person starting a movement doesn't take the effort to research what was done in the past. I was just pointing out that this complaint is nothing new - "Those that do not remember their history . . ."

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck. I really hope your complaints can get some change done so we can all benefit. Maybe this'll be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
