Got a gps signal within 1-2 seconds... 5 seconds max on a cold start, that's as quick or even better than what I had on my previous p4000 (titan). The only problem was the roaming... I don't care for the roaming icon, it doesn't bother me and even if the sign is there you do not get billed for roaming and even then I don't care if I do! My only problem is that if I'm in roaming, my exchange server is not connected (need to do manual send/receive) and it's not possible on the touch pro to ask it to still be connected in roaming (the checkbox is there, but can't be selected...) Any solutions?????? Thanks!!

I need to look at the Telus PRI before I can really comment. Someone needs to post it. I'm not downloading the whole ROM for the PRI. Way too many files to keep sorted as it is.

Alright, I'll post it tomorrow for sure!
Just out of curiosity, can't you create a file like :http://67.228.199.237/forum.ppcgeeks...attach/zip.gifVerizon Nationwide EVDO PRL 51143 Modified.zip (3.3 KB, 20 views) but for TELUS...? Maybe it's a dumb question lol...

I'd rather customize the PRI. The PRL patch will work for the PRL only not all of the settings. You will basically be running Sprint's settings instead of Telus. The new fix I posted gives Verizon users a clean PRI with a code sequence added for the GPS.

Got it working (Phase II) with Scrosler's 3rd ROM and with Google Maps. Now here is my dumb question...Do you why it wouldn't work with the ROM I created using PPCKitchen or with Nex's ROM?

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

Just tested phase II - the results I've gotten so far on my stock ROM touch pro are uneven - phase II so far is the same although I'm testing indoors. It takes a long time to start seeing satellites and even longer to fix any if it does. Soft reset seems to help. Once it starts seeing more than 4 satellites AND it fixes then it works nicely with TomTom 7 and Google maps. I've tested driving with the TomTom - it was accurate although different than my TomTom6 with GlobalSat BT359 (always seems to say double the yards until turn but tells me to turn at the right time). The person who referred to priming the pump with the HTC GPS Tool had it right. It's as though my phone needs to warm up the satellite chip/antennae etc before it will work. During the time I wrote this it finally fixed. Maybe this is a good sign. If its consistent I will be happy even if I have to wait 5 minutes to fix. It's great that lllboredlll has been able to unlock this - many thanks.

I installed v2 on scotts rom and get instant locks on 7 satelites in the HTC GPS utility, however it does not work in Google Maps. Any ideas?

okay I got it to work. For all of you that this happens to. I simply changed the settings in google maps from automatic to COM4/4800 and it worked instantly.

I've noticed with my OnCourse2008 that I don't need to prime my GPS like I did on my Titan but I do with everything else I use the GPS for. As far as results go, I think there are definetly some variables that will definetly affect the results. An example would be last night I was gettin 6 or 7 to lock inside my house withing 15 seconds. This morning while on my way to work, it locked in 10 sats and seen 11 within 3 to 5 seconds. I am running the Telus radio. Sometime today I might to a radio experiment to see if there is any difference. There really shouldn't be but you never know until you try.

When I use Google Maps, which I don't much. I end up having to prime my GPS with the HTC GPS Tool before Google Maps with function properly.

re: PHASE II COMPLETE

this works great. i got phase I working yesterday and installed phase II today.
FYI, in the HTC GPS tool, it seems to default back to the SIRF chipset each time I re-open the tool. but i seems to continue working just fine. It also seems to default back to 57600 baud. I've left this like this and its continues to work well also. by the way, i'm still using the stock VZW ROM 1.03.605.4.

Great fix. Thanks very much.

I have a program called GPS Viewer that works just like the HTC Tool but you don't have to change the Chip set. I will post it when I get home tonight if anyone is interested.

Great Job!

Excited to see if you can come up with an aGPS fix.

Does the roaming triangle have any effect on my bill or is it mainly just a cosmetic thing because I c an live with it if it has no effect on anything but if it is costing me money then it would probably be best to make that change when available.

Are you running Phase I or Phase II of this project. Phase II has all of those issues resolved.

I did the updated ,what i thought was phase II but still have the triangle and still can not get a fix with the GPS. I can not find the place to modify my Chip settings. I am a complete Newby when it comes to mods so anyone that can help...please do.
I did all the installs as requested and every other setting seems to be good. When I opened the GPS Tool it looks like it is doing soething bit there are no satelites on it.....anyone?

THEN POST IF IT HAS UNLOCKED THE GPS. IF IT DIDN'T UNLOCK, APPLY THE COMPLETE FIX AS PRESENTED WITH NO DEVIATIONS.

.

I did the minor experiment listed above and it worked great. GPS works in Google Maps, Banner still says Verizon, have the EVDO symbol.

Initial GPS lock took a couple of minutes, but I'm sure it had to download the GPS almanac so that's to be expected.

I had not applied any of the previous fixes, still running the stock VZW ROM.

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent !!!

I have no banner but everytihng else is the same as reported. I never called *22899 again. Phone calls are not roaming though. I activated again to see what happens. No change. all is working, no banner

This is on a fresh unaltered VZW PRI instalation after hard reset of my ROM.

Used 11 fixed 9. Normal for me is used 9 fixed 8. About normal. It did lock in 4 seconds though. I dont think its aGPS but its quicker.

Also have you confirmed the differnt protocals on the Radio? Could ours be differnt than a sprint device?

FOR ALL OTHERS:
STEP 2 IS MEANT TO ROLL BACK THE CHANGES MADE BY PHASE I OF THIS PROJECT. THAT MEANS YOUR PRI WILL BE GOING BACK TO STOCK OEM. NO HARD RESETS ARE NEEDED UNLESS YOU WANT TO CLEAR YOUR DEVICE OF ALL OTHER "FIX" INSTALLS. I WOULD SUGGEST INSTALLING PPST1.46.CAB BEFORE THE HARD RESET. I PERFORMED THAT ACTUAL PROCEDURE ONCE I COMPLETED PHASE II OF THIS PROJECT.

1. download lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab AND PPST1.46.cab and put on your storage card or any folder on your device
2. install PPST1.46.cab
3. use gsfinder, total commander or File Explorer to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe
4. click on ppst.exe and go thru the prompts
5. reset your device as needed
6. NOW install lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab
7. use gsfinder, total commander or File Explorer to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe
8. reset your device as needed
9. Dial *228 option 1
(the above step is the steps I did, option 2 also works but I needed to prove it takes a full update without rewriting data)
10. reset your device
11. Install HTC GPS Tool if needed
12. I would suggest a soft reset... do what you want on this one
13. Open up HTC GPS Tool. Set Chip to Q 7500 and mode to Cold Start (left soft key for those who dont know) then set baud to 4800 and open port.

There will be a registry entry made from this install with the GC's AGPS Values for future use or others testing use. Please understand that my device is not capable of AGPS for some reason. When it's figured out the "GPS Fix" will be updated.

Also make sure that your device settings are right.

Settings >> SYSTEM >> External GPS
Programs Tab- GPS Program Port: Com4
Hardware Tab- GPS Hardware Port: None, Baud Rate: 4800
Access Tab- Checkmark on "Manage GPS automatically"

Make sure you turn your location on thru your phone settings. Some ROM's do not have it enabled by default.

If you take my research and improve on it all I ask is that you atleast give me credit for the discovery. I've spent a ton of hours working with NV files and PRI's.

Hope everyone enjoys..... :D

.

Hi bored,

I haven't applied your Phase I yet; however, I was one of the many people that let the customizations run on the VZW leaked rom and I stuck. I tried aGPS and HTC GPS Tool but still could not get the GPS working. Can I use your Phase II to fix the problem or should I wait for your Phase III ?? By the way, mine is XV6900.

Thanks,

Banner is odd, really really odd. Now I rolled my PRI back before I did a hard reset. I'm wondering if some of the NV remnants stayed because you did it after the hard reset.

Have you dialed *228 yet. I had a roaming triangle after this fix until I dialed *228 then option 1. Try it please with v2 of this project installed.

Could you please export a full copy of your registry. I need it to compare to for my Phase III fix since you actually have AGPS on that device.

Ya but they are running a sprint pri that has a prl modded to trick the pri. I'm hoping they can just use this PRI I wrote. That way all their radio settings will be as per verizon :D minus the GPS ofcourse. I can't think of why my pri wouldn't work on that device.

Your PRI works. I've got it running with NexVision's rom on my Sprint TP on Verizon right now and the GPS works perfectly. The problem is that the roaming triangle still persists no matter what PRI I've tried. To get rid of the roaming triangle I still have to use the modded PRL.

Yes, that is correct. Was using a modified PRL with Nex's rom, stock Sprint PRI, then applied stock VZW PRI a week or 2 ago trying to get my GPS to work and still needed a modded PRL to get rid of the triangle, then this afternoon I applied the modified Phase II fix PRI, rebooted, and then dialed *228 option 1. PRL downloaded successfully, automatically rebooted, and roaming triangle was present until I re-loaded the modded PRL

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

This is great. My experience with a stock Verizon phone on the base ROM is the following. I am using Google Maps to test. I HAVE to use the HTC GPS tool to initialize and find the satellites (which after the first time, it does subsequently very fast.) I then can open up Google Maps and it will connect and find satellites. This works only when using Manual Connection settings. Automatic settings never work.
I have to use HTC GPS each time I have left the phone alone for any amount of time. Google will not find the satellites on its' own. Actually, Google will fail to initialize the GPS on its' own.

Is this mirroring the experience of other users? Do we have any thoughts on how to avoid this initialization procedure, of others are experiencing?

ROM: 1.03.605.4
Radio: 1.-3.03V
