Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

finally got it to work. Had to set google to manual settings. I have assisted gps on but i have no idea what it is really so I don't know if it's working. It's fixing on like 7 satellites so i don't care.

What is assisted gps anyway?

And someone asked but yes, you do have to leave the HTC GPS tool running with the port open for it to work.

Great job! Kind of the holy grail of phones right now. Sometimes I think Verizon turns off stuff just to see if you all can crack it.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I do not need to leave the HTC GPS tool running, google needed manual port setting. just set it to the windows out port and still let it manage the GPS. I had 3 apps using the GPS at once...... Also I skipped steps 2-5 and installed yesterday installed no problem. Great Job!! :headbang:

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

great work on the hack!! I tried the steps as outlined but it would not work for me, in fact under settings/system the GPS icon had dissapeared.... I did the following to succeed:

Did a factory reset (volume down and enter buttons pressed press reset while holding volume down and enter button)
*228 1
then step 5 (GPS_Fix_v2.cab)
ppst
reset (automatic)
*228 1
installed HTC GPS Tool (set as recommended)
installed google maps
had to set GPS to manual com4 4800
google maps locked on 6 sattilites in 30 sec!!! all other functions seem uneffected

Thanks so much for this GPS Fix. I have applied the patch for the first time following steps 5-13 and it worked flawlessly. I have tested it with TomTom 7 and it works there as well. Thank you Thank you thank you

I don't think they have a shipped ROM. I extract the PRI from the exe of a shipped rom.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

Update: Indoors this ROM update and GPS unlock acted much like the stock ROM with GPS unlock but outdoors and in car TomTom is locking in 20 seconds which is faster than my Globalsat BT-359. I've soft reset and it cranks right up so the new ROM has made a big difference. Of course I have more memory available and the Touchflo works (turned it off on the stock ROM) also - in all a great effort! Donating to both creators. Many thanks.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

I haven't read through the following posts. But, just to be sure, I follow instructions... lol... I did install the Phase II Cab, and my GPS is unlocked, and working well. I have successfully used BAF Gps as well, to open and start my GPS port, for applications like LiveSearch, for near instantaneous locks, including after a soft reset! So all the hard work, my good sir, has paid off!!!
Thank you very much, from a (now) extremely happy VZW TP User!!!

Just an FYI. I tried all radios and get the best lock with VZW radio. Thats my experience. Yours, depending on many factors, could be different.

Hmmm.. followed all the steps and HTC GPS Tool is getting a few "Sattelite Used" but no fixes. I have all the settings right, (7500, 4800, Cold).

I'm running scrosler's first VZW rom. Anyone know what's up?

you aren't in a good enough location to lock....if it see's them it will lock when the signal is good enough

Okay, I'll try somewhere else in that case

Have patience and try resetting your location (go to 911 only then Location On). Also for some reason I'm able to get locks with Garmin XT easily whereas Google Maps and HTC GPS Tool have difficulty - but be sure to be by a window when inside

I tried following the directions in the first post for a fresh install (not having done Phase I) and no joy yet. I am unable to locate this "Location ON" thing though. Can anyone describe a little bit clearly where this setting is?

This is my first winmo device so I'm a little new with the interface, but am quick to pick up on things.

I cant say this enough. Google maps sucks! It is always the worst at locking. I speak from many hours exp on this one. If google doesnt work then try other program like Live search.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

AWESOME.... It didn't work the first time, but followed steps 6-13 a second time, and it started working... btw make sure you set google maps to "manual, com4, 4800 baud"

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

Using the HTC GPS Tool, I can now see "Satellites Used:" increasing, seen as high as 5 or so. But nothing ever gets Fixed. And Google Maps sees nothing. Any ideas?

Am I correct to assume that since it is using the satellites now, that the GPS is "unlocked" correctly at least?

EDIT: Live Search doesn't seem to be connecting to the satellites either. Just displays "Waiting for GPS..." for a while then says it lost the connection :(

Yes you are unlocked. If you see that manny being "used" I would soft reset, walk outside and try again.

YEah, if you are hitting 3 or more than you can get a fix. 1 is a LOB (line of baring), 2 is a cut (Think of a circle with two lines coming out the middle in differnt directions to form the slive of a pie) , 3 or more is a fix. Fix is a confirmed location....

Wow, I guess I didnt need to say all that.... BUt yeah, that is accurate.

But back to the point.... Yeah, if you hit 3 and dont lock after about 30 to 45 seconds soft reset and try again.

Yes! I had the same phones as you - 6700, 6800, and now the Touch Pro. The 6800 was a great phone, but the Touch Pro? I love it! So much better.

Okay, back on topic... :)

I can't wait for the aGPS fix! bored GPS fix v3 baby! :)

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

Until aGPS is figured out I tried this: GPS TODAY http://www.geoterrestrial.com/

It basically keeps turning on GPS @ user set time intervals - keeping it alive. I have it set from 6am to 11pm. When I woke up this morning I had sats locked in about 15 seconds. Usually after a long time out from GPS it takes lots of minutes to re-acquire a signal.

I haven't fully tested the battery drain but this DOES work well FWIW.....
