Using Bored's fix, I am running OCN8 and iGuidance directly with no problem of losing lock. However, I do lose lock with Google. I think it's Google, not the TP. I've also run a variety of different GPS tools and apps with no problem. Even running them all at the same time. If you want a reasonably priced GPS package, go to http://www.zorrogps.com/US/ If you're not from the US, copy and paste the main address. US and Canada will cost about $32. However, with all their different add-ons, I'm not sure exactly what you will get. Their download site doesn't open till tomorrow. As far as a ROM goes, I'd suggest that you check out this one http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=54568 He has both Preconstructed ones, and a VERY simple kitchen where you can pick and choose to make your own. I never flashed a ROM before and had no problems with his. Again, you might want to wait a day or 2 because he is testing a new set of ROMS, and can be used with either Sprint or Verizon TP's. Bob |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
ok for what is worth...i was using a sprint tp flashed to vzw and a hacked prl. it was using a sprint pri im sure...but any who.. i read in this thread that installing the version 2 fix would help me get rid of the red triangle...but it didnt work...after i did the banner was gone and a *228 brought the arrow back
i also tried running the eri.bin from the conversion post...that didnt help either |

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Hi all,
Just wanted to confirm that I installed this on a stock VZW Touch Pro (ROM 1.03.605.4, Radio 1.03.03V) and it works!! I followed the instructions, skipping steps 2-5 as indicating, and including the installation of QuickGPS. I use Google Maps for my GPS navigation and I had to configure it to use the GPS device COM4@4800 baud. It didn't work when configured to use the windows managed device. Many thanks to lllboredlll!!! |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Google Maps, I have used this enough to be fairly proficient with. I use it a little differently on my PPC. I load maps, I will need, trick it (Usually Wi-Fi) start it up, on my home PC (Turn Wi-Fi off when loses signal) and as long as I don't drive off "Maps" it scrolls right along. I find it interesting, that it does not work much better on a Phone. I had minor problems, getting the on-board GPS to fire up this AM, soft reset, run HTC tool, can not get it to use The Windows Managed though. I am a Surveyor, the screen is really too small, but, I have about 10K in GPS/Navigation programs on my PPC. I will eventually migrate some on this, more to Test and just because. I have already used a Topcon Hiper lite +, and a Trimble 5800 GPS receiver with it. I am watching the F/B & testing on ROMs. SSK 1.4 or Juicys conspiracy ROM? I have both, but, :newb: on this device and need it for college, so, better stay with the SAC (SSK 1.4) I need a good platform (ROM) to really "test" anything. I have a little GPS experience ('82 on) and really want to play. Special Thanks to everyone!!!

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
After applying this fix some time ago, my GPS is working great with Google Maps and with National Geographic TOPO. Both of these programs allow me to set the COM port for incoming GPS data.
I have a couple of Amateur Radio APRS programs that I would really like to get working but they do not have the option to specify the COM port. The author of one of them said that he uses the "Windows API" to receive the GPS data. Neither of these programs appear to receive any GPS data at all. I think he is working on a mod to his program that will allow me to choose the COM port. Until that happens, anybody have any other ideas? Thanks! Ron |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I am getting a "No GPS receiver was found" msg after folling all of the instructions. Does anyone know what I did wrong? Thanks!
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Did you follow the directions about setting the COM port to 4? And is "Location on" checked?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Yes, I did set the COM port to 4 and checked "Location on"
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
When looking at the HTC GPS tool screen I can see GPS info scrolling down but can't seem to get Google Maps to see GPS info.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Bored, did you ever find out if the GPS chip stays on after you exit a GPS app? Also, would that affect data usage or just battery life?

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I did Menu -> Options -> GPS Settings in Google Maps and set it to use COM 4. Also set Baud rate to 4800 on same screen and it worked!!! Thanks!

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Is there a way to save the settings in "HTC GPS Tool"? The way I am set up now every time I want to use the GPS I must manually reset all of the variables (chip type, baud rate, etc). Thanks!
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
No you cant save the settings unfortunately. Have you tried using QuickGPS? Ever since I've been using QuickGPS I havent had to even mess around with HTC GPS Tool. I get locks using Garmin in under 30 secconds everytime.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I am a newbie with the smartphones.....I just got the touch pro from Verizon yesterday and was excited when I found this thread; but my joy is on hold. I applied the fix (after checking to see that I had the newer PRL). It seemed to go well, and I was able re-program the phone and install the GPS tool. I set all the settings as described, and I can see that I am locking satellites in the GPS tool. Google maps, however, stubbornly refuses to find the GPS. Is there a way to know that the GPS is unlocked so that Google maps can access it? Any other hints - and yes I went to phone->options->more tab->location settings and verified location is on. Google maps just says "Initializing GPS" for a while and then says "no GPS reciever found"

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I saw that post and this is what I did
- verified location is on - went to external GPS port and verified program port is set to com4, HW port to none, and Baud is 4800, access is Manage GPS automatically - went to GPS tool and verified port is open, port is com4, baud is 4800, mode is cold start, chip is Q7500, Open port by is "Raw interface", and clicked cold Start for Setmode. Restarted google maps and verified GPS settings are "set manually" to COM4 and 4800. I still get the Initializing GPS.. till timeout. Where did I go wrong? |

Mine took a long time to lock the first time, but after I left it on long enough to download the almanac it's been really fast locking in. I'm still a newbie, this is my first Windows Mobile phone and I got it late December. Hopefully someone with more experience will jump in here with something for you to try. Ron |

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Got it working...Apparently, I was confusing satellites used (displayed in red on the Satellite view in the HTC GPS tool) with satellites locked (displayed in green on the Satellite view in the HTC GPS tool). It seems that if there are no satellites locked, the GPS may not be sending data out the port since Google maps reports "No GPS reciever found" if no satellites are locked.
Thanks for all the help, everyone. I will be donating for this one. Mark |

Sometimes you have to run it a couple of times to get everything going...

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Hello all!
I installed the gps in my stock vzw touch pro and it worked great. Now, I tried SSK 1.5 kitchen and botched the gps fix install. I tried to uninstall, but it isnot working right. I am getting a lock on 9 sats, however, it appears to lock up after receiving some coordinates from the chip. I have to do a soft reset. I've searched the thread, but cannot figure how to start again without going through a hard reset. Any ideas? Yes, all settings are correct. Regards, Lazybulldog |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Did you check "Location on"?

Install PPST1.46.cab then run PPST.exe from your windows folder after soft reset Install lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab then run PPST.exe from your windows folder should be working fine after that aslong as you have your locations turned on which scott's rom normally do by default |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
That took care f it. Thank you!
Many Thanks for a great product! Regards, Lazybulldog |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Just an FYI what I've noticed on my phone when GPS fails:
-GPS works fine most of the time, locks are achieved within 16 seconds. -Sometimes the GPS does NOT lock. What I've noticed is when I go to the Phone screen, the "crosshair" icon in the top right has a slash thru it. This means that "Location" is OFF. I dont know why this happens on its own sometimes. To fix it, try 1 of 2 things: 1) Go into Phone Settings, turn OFF Location, OK, then go back in and turn Location ON. -OR- 2) Reboot/Soft-reset your phone |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Scrosler,
On your SSK 1.5M ROM thread you mention that the GPS drivers have been updated to take advantage of the Windows GPS drivers. I have installed the Bored v2.0 GPS fix and it is working perfectly but I would REALLY like to not have to use COM 4 for the GPS data. I have a couple of Amateur Radio programs that do not allow me to set a COM port, so they currently do not work. Would the updated GPS drivers allow this to happen? Can I get and install just the updated GPS drivers? I haven't ever installed a ROM and I'm really not sure that I need/want to. Please let me know what you recommend, thanks! Ron |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I'm pretty sure that is going to require a driver to be re-wrote. The new drivers are just suppose to be a bit more reliable. I've ran both and can't tell the difference but I'm sure some will say there is. My lock times are faster than my navigation software can open so that's all I care about. I think I seen someone talking about using GPS Gate to reroute the data.

Im a newb at phones and im tryin to install the files but the no exe. file when i download and copy the files to my storage card. I am using a att fuze( that is the same as the touch pro right?) I am good with computers but i cant figure out why im having trouble, is it b/c its a fuze and on att?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
The Fuze does not have a locked down GPS Chip like Verizon does. You do not need these files.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
ok, let the flaming begin... I have a verizon touch pro. I have unlocked it (and verified) and have run the ppst fix, replaced the DLL and then run ppst again (note my phone did NOT have ppst until I installed the package provided in this post). I think I must be missing a major step as my phone (in google maps or Microsoft live) just indicates that it is still searching for gps.
this is my first post - go easy ? |
