Failboat. Installed Googlemaps, cant come up with any satellites.
Im not sure what my next step should be, I have tried a few settings and nothing.:-? Is there a simple checklist of solutions? Is this problem coming from being on a verizon ROM with a sprint phone? |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
is location on checked?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Location is checked
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I can't get this to work either. I am using the leaked Verizon rom on a Sprint TP phone. When I had the Verizon TP this worked no problem.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
what people are doing is using the Sprint PRI with a modified Verizon PRL to get rid of the roaming icon. At the moment if you update your PRL to the newest Verizon one it will probably show that your are roaming even if you are not. My fix was authored about 3 PRL's ago. You could actually modify the VZW PRL go get rid of the roaming icon that way you could just keep the PRI you just installed.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Hey, I wanted to say thanks for this, and add two things that weren't immediately clear:
1: Turn on Settings->Phone->Location (Should this be in the OP?) 2: Go Outside... I was surprised that just walking outside made a HUGE difference (Also, I ran mine on stock, I'm not brave enough to do anything major yet) |

Good point maybe bored will update post #1 for us when he gets on.

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
For first time users I felt it was pretty simple. You download and install the fix then run PPST. Only other thing is turn locations on and ofcourse *228 OTA which is fairly simple as well. Everything else is software related which isn't really the topic of this thread.
For people who had to step up from v1 to v2, well yeah that's a little more involved. But still seems simpler to me as opposed to unlocking you device then flashing a radio and then flashing a ROM. That seems a little bit more major to me but then again it's just my opinion. |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is QuickGPS required? I wasn't able to get it to work (it kept saying it couldn't connect).
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
soft reset then try to run it again
it never works the first time for some stupid reason |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I am new to this and agree that installing the GPS fix made me more nervous than installing a new ROM. I'm not sure why - it just seemed more dangerous than loading a proven ROM, I think because of the first issues with the Roaming indicator and such. However, after reading several posts and comments about BOREDS work, I just decided to trust his hard work and that he had all the angles covered and dove in.
I read the instructions and follow up posts to see what problems people had. I decided most of the trouble was due to not following the instructions exactly. So I read them one more time, followed them to a 'T' and it worked perfectly the first time. Even google maps popped up and worked great. If you aren't comfortable, keep reading posts. Knowing the issues others had and that they were resolved and that the people in this Forum won't leave you hanging gives you the confidence to dive in. Also follow the instructions these guys give you exactly. If you aren't sure about a step, ask - just like the guy several posts back who asked if the resets listed were hard or soft. This is a great forum filled with great people and with their help, your phone will perform 190% better than it does now! |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I think bored's ROMs include the GPS fix so if you think it is easier to install a ROM you could try one of his
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
no they dont... i dont want people to have to do OTA programming everytime they flash my rom
if you are on verizon and have NOT unlocked your gps you will need to do so with the instruction in post 1 if you have unlocked it the only way you will need to do so again is 1. you flashed a shipped ROM 2. the custom rom you flashed contains a different PRI other than that you're good to go as far as danger goes..... yeah it could be argued that it can be dangerous messing with pri's and such but no more than unlocking and relocking the device can be |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
OK I'm a little confused here. If the GPS fix in not included in all of your ROMs (I thought it was for some reason), that means only Verizon subscribers can get their GPS lag fixed?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
my fix is not for lag it is to unlock the gps chip the verizon so nicely locked down for us
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I'm not sure why people are afraid of using lllboredlll's GPS Fix v2.0
I installed it and followed his directions. Been using it for almost 2 months now. It works great!! Thanks again lllboredlll ! |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
i have not idea what i'm doing wrong. i've tried the steps just as stated, and i can't seem to get the gps unlocked. grrr.
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Have you checked to make sure Location on is checked? Have you gone outside and tried to get the locks with HTC GPS Tool?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
yeah, i've checked the location on... all good. but i'll have to try being oustide again. It was my first attempt before deciding to do a hard reboot and starting over.

Ok sweet... stepped outside and it worked nicely. Thanks, Kyle, for the help. and thanks, Bored, for making the fix!
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Not a problem man! Glad you got it working!
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
if this fix is more major than a rom upgrade, i can't wait to do a rom upgrade. in perhaps ten minutes, i had gps running on the vz touch pro i received last night. fired up google maps - went into its options/gps settings/and "set manually" com4: w/ 4800 - and the thing worked like a champ! i went for a drive and google maps followed me very accurately.
|||bored|||, et. al., thanks for all the work you're doing to improve the experience of the ppc community! |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Thanks Bored - I've been using your GPS fix for 2 months now and it's worked great on my Verizon HTC Touch Pro.
I see that HTC has released a new ROM on their website: Release Date: 2009-02-16 http://www.htc.com/www/SupportViewNe...501&news_id=67 If I install this new ROM, will the GPS fix keep working? Has anyone tryed this new ROM yet? |

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I just got my TP last week...to my dismay..no gps.
I did the v2 install. Did the GPS Tool test and had 4 sats connect in the used category. Fired up Google Maps...it worked the first time. I turned my phone off..then back on a few minutes later...google exceptioned and closed. I have tried numerous times to get the gps to turn on in google maps but it comes up...no gps. I have PRL 51250. I am getting sats 3-4 used when firing up the GPS tool. Any ideas? |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Have you tried to reapply the fix again? And did you check to see if "Location On" is still checked and didnt get shut off?
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
lol I'm gonna remane this thread to Kyle's GPS Support thread. Good job buddy, nice to have the help.

So you and everyone understands. If you flashed a Released ROM such as that (even if it was actually for CDMA) you stand a chance of locking the GPS back down again if Verizon did not unlock it thru the new PRI that the ROM would contain. If you were to flash a Released ROM such as that but it was for a different carrier, you would have a working GPS but your device would think it was suppose to be on the other carriers network. So you would still have to apply my fix up until the point that Verizon releases an update that allows the GPS to function with software other than VZNAV. |

Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
I know it's probably me, but I've looked at the windows subfolder on my very new VZ HTC TP (5 days) and I can't see the ppst.exe file anywhere- with
gsfinder or the onboard file explorer- with the setting to show all files. I'd really like to use your fix to get the GPS going. Has the phone's programming changed or more likely, am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any assistance. |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
are you sure you installed the cab for the fix? it contains that file and is set to put it in the windows folder
|
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
Hey there
I installed this on my alltel touch pro I just got last month. I was able to do everything except *228. I had the roaming triangle and put in the provided PRL in the first post to make it go away and then tried to *228 again but it gives me trouble and wont let me program and instead tells me to call an 800 number. There's probably something obvious Im missing but Im "kinda" new to this stuff but not the point where Im a total idiot not knowing anything. |
Re: 12/25/08 Verizon GPS Fix v2.0
you didnt need this on the alltel device.... the reason you are having issues is you esn is allocated to the alltel network but you just set the initial programming to verizon... basically the network is now confused
