I installed lllboredlll's new fix over the old and it works just like before. If you're interested to get the new Verizon leaked rom with gps unlocked and new radio, check it out at SSKUSERS.COM :

Yea I posted over there in that thread. I think I would rather stick with ssk than go back to stock even if it means I have to have an older radio. I am sure Scott with have all the upgrades whenever he releases a future kitchen.

I am not too sure if that is really good news. I was hoping for, at least, the one bug with Windows Mobile's default GPS settings not working, now works.

If you don't mind, go into Google Maps' Menu/Options/GPS Settings and please see if you can change from "Set Manually" back to "Managed by Windows" and have Google Maps still work (lock onto satellites). It has been reported that with the full, new, firmware update from VZW, it does and I am hoping that installing lllboredlll's new PPST2.01.CAB it does too.

1. download lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab your storage card or any folder
2. NOW install lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab
3. use gsfinder, total commander or File Explorer to navigate to \windows\ppst.exe (EVERYONE MUST COMPLETE THIS STEP FOR THE FIX TO TAKE AFFECT)
4. reset your device as needed
5. Dial *228 option 1
(the above step is the steps I did, option 2 also works but I needed to prove it takes a full update without rewriting data)
16. reset your device
7. Install HTC GPS Tool if needed
8. I would suggest a soft reset... do what you want on this one
9. Open up HTC GPS Tool. Set Chip to Q 7500 and mode to Cold Start (left soft key for those who dont know) then set baud to 4800 and open port.

Step 3, I cannot find \windows\ppst.exe via File Explorer, where is it???

Secondly, in step 2, how do I install these files?

place PPST2.01.cab on your phone somewhere and then just click the file and follow the prompts

once that is done use file explorer and go into you windows directory and click on the file that says PPST ... file explorer dont show it as ppst.exe

You do realize you can flash to the new Verizon ROM to get the new Radio and then flash back to the SSK ROM and have the best of both worlds, don't you? I believe someone also made an RUU of the Radio only in the Radio archive thread in the upgrades forum

I got the GPS to work --- thanks.

Now what is this Install HTC GPS Tool if needed stuff? Does it offer anything more than the GPS program tha'ts already installed? (Spring Navigation that is)

Actually when I put the HTC_GPS_Tool .cab in a folder and click it on, the only thing I get is file information, nothing else happens.

OK I am a complete noob with this stuff. Got my Verizon 6850 about three days ago. I have no idea about GPS activation or whatever, I have always used external GPS, either bluetooth or wired, with my pdas and phones. I understand that the 6850 has the GPS internal but I can't seem to make it work right. I followed the above steps exactly (and the PPST rebooted the device) and still have no access to the gps info when using googlemaps or any other GPS program. After clicking "USE GPS" from the Menu, a blue box shows up in the upper right hand corner and says Seeking GPS Satellites and then stays there forever. ANybody have any idea of what I am doing wrong and how to fix it.

Thanks

Have you tried QuickGPS? Is your location on in phone settings? Can you get any locks with GPS Tool? Are you outside, with decent visability? We need a bit more info.

Did you go into Google Maps' Menu/Options/GPS Settings and changed it from "Managed by Windows" to "Set Manually" and select com4 and 4800 baud?

You are not suppose to need to do this anymore with the latest update, but I have yet to get anyone to confirm it.

Yes, they are programs. I would strongly suggest opening QuickGPS (you will find it in your Programs menu), have it download the GPS Satellite Info table immediately, and also set its options up to automatically download an update once every 6 days.

With the current GPS Satellite Info table already downloaded, your initial GPS startup time/delay will go from minutes to seconds.

My Verizon 6850 does not have Quick GPS in the program menu. I haven't been able to find it available standalone online.

QuickGPS gets its satellite tables thru the internet, not from the satellite themselves. That is what makes it quick. I assume that the error message you get about it being unable to establish a connection is referring to an internet connection. When this happens, can you make any other internet connections successfully (browse a website in IE)?

To use the version of QuickGPS from here (post #60), you need to install and softboot sdkcerts first. That's the only version of QuickPGS that I have any personal experience with so I clueless if sdkcerts is required for other versions too.

New firmware is great! It seems I get quicker locks and possibly see more sattelites than before (that could just be chance though: right place/right time).

i guess i had to turn on my location which fixed everything i didnt have to use anything from this thread to get it working. But what does that htc gps tools do? i still took a little a couple mins to find satellites does the gps tools speed that process up any faster than quick gps?

It lets you look at the data coming from the satellites. While I have no idea what good vs. bad data would look like, I guess a more cruder data vs. no data is about all the comfort GPS tools gives me.

Re: 6/8/09 FIRMWARE UPDATE: Verizon GPS Unlocked

Here's a tangentially related question:

I have a Sprint Touch Pro, converted to run on Verizon. It has:

PRI: 1.47_003 (which I believe is Sprint)
PRL: 51284 (modified to remove roaming)
Radio: 1.03.03V (Verizon)

GPS works fine, but is a bit slow - 15 sec locks, with the Telus aGPS settings in the registry and also in the QPST Service Programming.

If I flash this new Verizon ROM, am I right in saying that the PRI and the Radio will be updated? If so, will the PRI conflict somehow since it's a Sprint TP? Lastly, if this all works, will I be able to again update my PRL OTA via *228? (I can't do that now without a roaming triangle showing up).

TIA!

Re: 6/8/09 FIRMWARE UPDATE: Verizon GPS Unlocked

Don't know if someone has noticed this, but the instructions say:

Settings >> SYSTEM >> External GPS
Programs Tab- GPS Program Port: Com4
Hardware Tab- GPS Hardware Port: None, Baud Rate: 4800
Access Tab- Checkmark on "Manage GPS automatically"

But when I did this, I always had to set google maps, live search, and my CoPilot software to point to com4. Applications such as Twikini didn't work because you couldn't configure the GPS port

If you follow this:
Settings >> SYSTEM >> External GPS
Programs Tab- GPS Program Port: Com2
Hardware Tab- GPS Hardware Port: Com4, Baud Rate: 4800
Access Tab- Checkmark on "Manage GPS automatically"

Then you can use configure Google Maps to "Managed by Windows" and Live Search to the "GPS Intermediate Driver", and Twikini now works.

Hope this helps.

I got the GPS tool installed.

Question, how do I use it? If I go into it, there is only various settings and also showing the sats. (I got a lock on about 8 ).

Do I still have to use the "sprint Navigation" program or what?

(I don't have Verizon on this phone, but Sprint)

That's about all the GPS Tool program does. What were you expecting?

Well, if you want to use your phone's GPS abilities for Navigation, you will need to use some sort of Navigation program. If you like Sprint's Nav program, and it works, why not stick to it?

Re: 6/8/09 FIRMWARE UPDATE: Verizon GPS Unlocked

My VZW TP has an issue they fedex a replacement. I want to get GPS back up but since I only flash off/on I am a bit lost.

I had GC rom 2.14 on the VZW TP to begin with. Needed something better so I am SSK now. However, I did do GC gps fix using the QPST tool to set the options and static IP address. which was in place before I re-flashed to ssk. This was the old device....

I looked and BORED posted this:

Verizon has unlocked the GPS as of 6/08/09
Attached is PPST2.01.cab Please use that file as a replacement for lllboredlll_VZW_GPS_Fix_v2.cab

-------
end

So on this new device my question is do I still need to do GC option with the QPST program? Or just follow BORED info so I can get my TomTom/Garmin apps back working? Also Googel maps...

BORED did state something about GC option is for AGPS not sure what that is I though GPS, etc. was all the same?

Advise...

I was expecting a navigation program... Yeah, Sprint's Nav program works for me, I don't understand what I get from the GPS Tool program, other than the ability to view sats and change settings. Why did I need to do that if all worked just fine before?

Re: 6/8/09 FIRMWARE UPDATE: Verizon GPS Unlocked

I have never posted to these forums, but I owe the folks out here a lot. I wanted to let people know that, even though I strictly followed all of the instructions from Bored, MightyMike, Lordshadowz, and others, I was never actually able to get my Verizon Touch Pro to get a first GPS lock. I never downloaded Bored's original fix because everyone said it was unnecessary if you had Mighty ROM (4R3BORN) on your device -- which I do and it works great. I don't know if those people are right or not, but I will say that nothing I did, including changing registry entries, downloading QuickGPS Fix and HTC GPS Tool, monkeying with Advanced Config and other utilities, did a thing to get this thing to actually start seeing and locking on satellites. Then I downloaded the simple cab file that Bored posted on 6/6/9, ran it, and went outside. I got seven satellites in a few seconds and GoogleMaps integrated perfectly. Yeah baby.

I wanted to post this because I haven't seen an answer to the most important question I had, which was "can I install this new fix over Mighty ROM 4R3BORN or is that going to screw everything up?" The answer is nothing appears to be screwed up - the .cab just installs and makes the GPS work.

GPS Tool is just a quick way to see if you got GPS working. Like I mention, you (and I for that matter) might not understand what all the data means, but there simply being data coming from the satellites means you got GPS working.

With the original V2 fix, applications like Google Maps and Live needed to be configured correctly before they worked. So, if they didn't work, it would raise the doubt between you didn't actually get GPS working, or you simply didn't configure the apps correctly. That kind of doubt could be very frustrating to a n00b. ](*,)

If your GPS is working, then yes, GPS Tools is probably of little use.

you were told wrong... if you had a verizon device you needed to install my fix before the newest file became available... now you just have to do exactly what you done which was install the new file

installing this does not screw up rom this is purely for the radio and gps of the device

I have a n00b question.

Right now I have mighty rom running on my phone, if I apply verizon's official GPS fix, will that get rid of mighty rom?

I'd hate to go back to stock even with working GPS
