I have the same issue -- i have an iPod integration kit for my car and it also has a 3.5 aux in, which i use for the TP -- does anyone know of a ground loop isolator you might be able to use on a 3.5 input as opposed to a RCA?

How do you install the device you mentioned in your links?
The gound loop isolator goes between your source device (phone) and the amplifier (head unit or amp). It is a small adapter. You can see in the folowing pictures that mine is connected between my phone and my head unit. I need to take mine out and put it in the dash. I finally went and bought one this weekend. Eliminated 99.9 percent of the noise that I was hearing. Well worth the $15. One other thing that was causing me issues was my graphic equalizer was on and that made the audio sound horrible (its labeled audio booster in the program files)

That is the same one I use and works perfectly elimating the noise. Howerver I have noticed that it does lower my bass response a little.

Re: sound quality terrible if charing

The way i have mine setup is a direct 3.5 jack coming from the back of my cd unit to plug directily into the device. So what I am going to do is buy is to spiltters (3.5 to the left and right red and white audio) and inbetween this use the isolater. Is this correct?

Yes you need a stereo phono to 3.5mm adapter. (x2)

or

or

or you could by a ground loop isolator with 3.5mm connections: such as
