Im sorry but its how you encode and my movies run smooth at 130-150% whatever the data rate may be.

I dont think you quite understand how this benchmarking process works. The original data/frame rate is what YOU encoded, an input value, and means nothing towards the output number and what you see. Whats important is the output (benchmark) numbers which are both in the 1.1-1.3Mbit range. You can jack it up all you want to 100Mbit data rate but if its only outputting/benchmarking 1.3 then its only outputting 1.3 either way.

After all how important is engine horsepower on a car when the wheel HP is whats important, the actual output not what in theory it should be. If a 650hp engine makes 425 at the wheels and a 500 makes 425 at the wheels then its going to be the same speed! I dont see how it matters what the input data rate is when they benchmark practically equal.

I personally dont care how many numbers people quote or try to skew, because what I have it at runs perfectly smooth and fluid at ~140% and 35fps output which is right up there with the Omnia and other devices. No stutters or lag what so ever

You would think so, but if it worked perfectly, you would get the same bench rate with all videos encoded the same way. This is not my experience.

We need all to use the same video clip to discuss our results.

Re: Graphics Performance issues?

thats my whole point, its about encoding properly. Whatever way the movies i have were encoded yielded 130-150% and 35fps. Even the WMPoweruser article about the video performance http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1806 says the Touch Pro they tested on got 170%. I see nothing wrong with that number and obviously people getting under 100% are doing something wrong with encoding their video optimally for the device.

The LARGEST flaw in the xda/wmpoweruser video test is theyre comparing a video played on DIRECTDRAW getting 170% to a RAWFRAMEBUFFER at 400% on the Omnia. does anyone else see the inherent flaw in that logic? (rawframebuffer is NOT using the 3d drivers, thats why).

Again the people complaining are the ones using it for off purposes like playing video games and such. if you have a properly encoded movie then it will run just fine and smooth, right along with the Omnia and other such devices. i seriously doubt HTC engineers sat there and said hey lets make sure this graphics driver was optimized for games like Quake. The video player runs just fine on it which is what their goal was

basically the problem is being GREATLY exaggerated past what it is. i wont deny it could be better, but its not as horrible as people are making it out to be. This is simply another case of people jumping on the bandwagon of an hyped internet article without thinking for themselves first and foremost.

SprintTouch08 have you read my previous post?

No.. the problem is not exaggerated. I really don't want to think how a full wide resolution video will run on HTC Touch HD, the media-centric device from HTC (uses the same chipset)

As the author stated there, it shows the maximum performance archived by the device. He tried ALL AVAILABLE video output types and noted the best for EACH device. What's wrong with that?

Side-by-side Ominia - Qualcomm devices , DirectDraw performance is way better on Omnia.

Is the DirectDraw on Touch Pro hardware accelerated? I don't think so.. The main problem of Touch Pro is 2D performance.

Omnia's CPU (Marvell PXA312) has integrated hardware video acceleration.

here’s a Phone Arena SPB Benchmark between Omnia, Xperia X1, and Touch Pro: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Sony..._2072-p_6.html .

It is VERY CLEAR that the Qualcomm cpu is 5x SLOWER than a Marvell for even 2D on the SAME OS!! Note that this benchmark is still useless for measuring 3D performance, but it’s a sign and the writing is clear on the wall.

Re: Graphics Performance issues?

as i said before i personally dont care honestly. i briefed over some xda threads about it just reading up on it.

As i said videos run smooth, not blocky and not stuttering for me so Im not all that concerned as 50% of the people here are too according to the poll. Im happy with what i have and after owning many many PPC's this is still the best to date.

its a subjective thing to the eye and if you dont like it the only answer it sell off or return the device. A multi-billion dollar corporation will not change their ways for some whining in internet forums so its a complete waste of time.

Well, if we're having 2D problems, is there any chance an updated driver could help?

This is a Pro on the left and the Mogul is on the right. Wow, Mogul is sooo much smoother. I always felt that my older Mogul had a smoother look to it using opera 9.5. And I have tried using all different types of roms including the ones with larger pagepools and even tried upgrading to the newer Opera 9.5. But they all dont scroll as smooth as the older Mogul in which had pwerformance issues too. Could it be the resolution?
