Anyways, i decided to install my first custom rom (jugs 32mb). After that, i went to get the coreplayer update (1.3)... Amazingly enough, ive been testing out video performance and it is WAY better than my last TP. Ive been throwing videos at it all morning, 400+mbs, it has handled them all!

Im starting to believe that the poor video on my last device was either a bad stock rom or a bad device. I get very limited stuttering now. Its noticeable that i am watching from a phone, but its very good video... To all those ive been arguing with, understand that all touchpros do not perform alike!

Just got my replacement...build date 11/25...Very noticable change in viewing contact pictures - also my last tp would be extremely slow to display album art when I hit the music tab - now it moves really fast - same with pictures.

Also, videos in wmp are definately not as choppy as b4 - no placebo effect here - I played a couple vids that would simply stop then start then stop - now they just play right thru. They definately made some changes on this device but it still warms up. I checked earlier and some said my ROM is the same as the old version but it acts much different.

I can't imagine that each tp has that much of a difference. They must have made some adjustments somewhere.

are you using direct draw or qtv?

QTV, but even then, like said, even media player is giving me better playback than before.

Raw frame buffer works better than direct draw, but only slifhtly. They both have a bad freezing problem on large vids for me. About 5 seconds of okay playback, then freeze frame for another 5, repeat. QTV is a huge advantage, slightly slower frame rate than on the pc, but definitely worth watching!

Yeah see it's gotta be a per unit issue then with the extremes you were having. I got mine in the mail on november 11th and the rom build date says september 9th or something (how do i check the phone's build date?) Anyways, I can load up a 700mb mp4 of wedding crashers into windows media player, and other than tracking taking slightly longer than coreplayer, it plays it very fluidly.

So what about games? Did you have any to begin with? there might be an improvement if your video runs smoother...

I didnt have anygames... only bejewled and teeter. I had the diamond vr hologram and it never ran good on my device, i might try it again but right now, it has some kind of driver issue with the rom im using

I would -hope- it's at least iPhone quality video. The iPhone has half the screen resolution, less than half the ram, and about the same processing power (slightly faster CPU but underclocked). About the only thing the iPhone should have over the TP in video playback is hardware H.264 decoding, which is way too format-specific to be in a WM phone.

I should say that I use WMP (I know, I know, but I don't feel like dropping $30 on CorePlayer right now and I never could get TCPMP working correctly), and WMV files are very stuttery but MP4's are perfect. Go figure.

Yeah mp4s are perfect lol. I wonder how they will look on tv out. I'm hoping to be able to bring my mp4's anywhere and play them on people's TV's. What I would really like in wmp though is to be able to stretch the image in case I have to display it on a widescreen tv. If you stretch a widescreen movie to fill a 4:3 screen, then put it on a widescreen tv, it should even out and the image should appear natural widescreen format.

I've been using Core Player 1.3 with a 500mb rip of Pineapple Express converted via SPB Mobile DVD and it plays great. I'm curious if the claims above on better WMP performance are real, and whats been changed since mid October to November in the production of TPs.

I am very curious on his too. I hope that it is software or I will have to get a new one through insurance when they become available.

Somethings different, thats all i can say.... before this new device, wmp wasnt even an option for watching video. Once again, right now im using a custom rom so that might have an affect. I only tested a few video before i updated the rom but either way, its performing better than the last tp i had (which i had got from best buy first day and never used a custom rom)

For those that are getting better performance, can you supply some Coreplayer benchmarks? Video data and benchmark results ...
