Re: Graphics Performance issues?

According to Verizon's website, the Omnia has the MSM6800A, although you are correct in stating the other Omnias use the Marvell chip.

I'm actually sort of confused about this, since many sources are stating different chips for the CDMA article. I should revise that blog post...

Re: Graphics Performance issues?

I don't believe the processor is integrated in the MSM6800 like it is in the MSM7XXX series. The chipset in the Omnia contains all the usual GPS/BT/WiFi goodies, but the main ARM processor can vary.

If you're producing a CDMA device, you're going to be using at least some Qualcomm components.

Re: Graphics Performance issues?

Yes, but the reason for the confusion is Verizon's poor marketing literature. It implicitly states on their site "Processor: MSM6800A".
A quick search on that title reveals that yes, it is most likely just the chipset and not the actual CPU, however nowhere in the advertising or official specs do they mention any other CPU.
This had even led a few reviewers to beleive they used a Qualcomm MSM main processor like HTC does, except they must have done a far better job with the drivers. Hence the misunderstanding in that blog post. Its good to know I'm not alone in that assumption, either.

I wish we had another company to compete with htc witha diffefrent chip instead of qualcomm. I would never buy htc again. I like my Pro but this 3d acceleration is crap. When the Pro HD comes out I will not buy it. It will be the same as the Pro except just a bigger screen but with the same bs of no 3d accelaration. suk it htc.

I apologize for the noob question, but how is our touch pro lacking in regards to grahics performance? please dont take that as a sarcastic question. Im just unaware of what other devices do better than our touch pros. I have to admit i have not read the whole thread, and mabe i should to better understand the issue. Is it the way it plays videos? or overall general perfomance. Thanks in advance.

the ati d3d driver definitely helps with d3d graphics, but 2d performance is bad and most games are programmed with OpenGL (er whatever the mobile version is.)

I think once microsoft gets the app store off the ground, developers will have more incentive to program games for wm, and d3d will be used more. Hell, Direct3D is the dominant graphics on PC right now. Every game I get is D3D. The last game I got that was openGL was either Prey or quake4. Don't know if that means anything for mobile, but it's definitely not something to ignore.
