Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

One thing that no one has mentioned... This definitely voids your warranty, (if Sprint finds out you did this.)

So make sure you have a spare, just in case you have to take your phone in, for any reason.

I like this idea, but there is a 99% chance I will end up taking my phone back, for some reason or another...

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

Well, here's my contribution to this experiment...

This is using Rit's "Sunshine Orange" dye. I simply dumped the whole 1-1/8 oz box into a large pot with about 1-1/2 gallons of water for 15 minutes on medium heat, stirring occasionally (add salt and pepper to taste).

The cover turned out very... uhh... orange. I'm happy with the results. However, there is one caveat I should mention. I've yet to determine the reason, but as you can (hopefully) see in this second picture below, something during the process caused some blackening around the inside perimeter of the lens cover that I can't clean up.

This discoloration doesn't seem to be visible on any photos I've taken with it since though. So unless you really stare at the back lens cover, it really won't be an issue.

Good luck to everyone else willing to make the small sacrifice that is, their battery cover. I'm off to paint some happy trees and sheds. Bob... out.

Excellent thread!

Maybe I don't have to buy a Telus or Alltel battery cover now!

@ BobRoss
the spots look like dye is just stuck/dried onto the lense, with a little more water I bet they would go away

Re: A $1.48 goes a long way... Black Battery Cover!

@cornelious2

I was hoping that was it too. But after some serious scrubbing, that doesn't seem to be the case. From closer inspection it almost appears that the black part surrounding the lens hole bled inwards. Perhaps I had the water too hot. Can't say for sure though.

@nautica2450

Thanks, I put a lot of time and effort into my waterfalls But what I really enjoy painting is snow-capped mountains.

Hmm... if you try scrubbing the dyed areas, do you get discoloration?
