So I did what comes natural, I did a hard reset. The problem went away. I have now since installed custom roms with no problems.

I don't think it's a hardware issue and i don't think it's any specific software but I do believe it's software related. I think it is the same issue that we get when the phone just suddenly decides one day it wants to get hot and kill the battery for no reason. Something got "stuck" in the on position. But in the case of a new phone, I think it's something that only happens when you first set up service because I never have the specific laggy problem after that no matter what I flash too.
i know this is off topic, but hows your build quality? Is there a gap between screen and keyboard?

Quality seems the same as my previous one. Neither had any real gap between the screen and the keyboard unless I use the hard plastic cover/shell. The clips raise the screen off the keyboard on the bottom end of the phone.

I really hate it when it lags during text messaging, typing emails, trying to close programs or open them, and even dialing phone numbers. It's not always laggy, but it is laggy way too often for a newer phone. I feel like my Mogul is wayyy faster. I'm always closing programs and managing my memory, but it's still super laggy. Not to mention, the battery life seems to be constantly draining, even after turning off incoming beam, activesync, and time synch-ing.

Did I get a bad/defective Touch Pro, or is this normal?
You probably got a defective Touch Pro. It's laggy, but not as bad as you describe. I stil found it bad enough that I went back to a Palm phone. WinMo is just not for me. Having to charge it twice a day, watching it chug just to do simple things Palm just does. I needed more phone, less laptop.

Re: Super laggy new Touch Pro - defective?

I solved my lag by flashing another rom. I'm loving it.

I think it is normal. It happens to mine as well. Overall, it's not consistently laggy, but every so often it will get pretty bad.

Oh, and the battery life has a mind of it's own. At least once or twice a week, the battery will just decide to go on "super drain" where I wouldn't even make it through the day on standby with little or no talk time.

But to answer your question of did you get a bad Touch Pro OR is it normal...... I don't think "OR" is correct. You got a bad Touch Pro AND it is normal.

I have learned to live with the phone's defects.

Re: Super laggy new Touch Pro - defective?

Just a quick question. Might be a stupid question. For the Sprint customers, how long did you have your phone before you went in and had it replaced? I bought mine on 11/2608, could I still take it back to have it replaced with out a problem?

I'm having this super laggy typing issue also and have wondered whether or not it was a defective phone.

Thanks for any info.

Re: Super laggy new Touch Pro - defective?

From Sprint you have 30 days from time of purchase to trade it in. There is also a product warranty which may help (usually 1 year). And Sprint also offers insurance for defects, breakage, etc.

So, if you purchased on 11/26 then you are outside of the 30 window. You may be able to get a replacement through a warranty claim or Sprint may replace it for you through insurance, etc.

late,
Coz
