Is it the GPS chip not refreshing quickly enough or is it the actual screen not refreshing enough.

As you said, same GPS chip but larger screen..the GPS chip was originally designed with a smaller resolution in mind so ... /shrug

iguidance VGA works flawlessly on my girls diamond, but on my TP the lag is unbearable. I thought the diamond and TP has the same GPS chip? if that is true them someone needs to look at the diamonds GPS drivers and get some porting done.

TP uses the same chip set as the older models, such as mogul, tilt ....
There was no lag using previous devices.
The TP GPS position is accurate when stationery or moving slowly.
Lag increases with increasing speed with most apps, including live search, google maps, Sprint TeleNav.
Voice commands are usually very accurate and on time.

The big difference between TP and older devices is the screen. Resolution is much higher, and so it has to process many more pixels.

Could the lag be due to the display delay, not the GPS module.
Can that be solved with better drivers or ported drivers from other devices?

Any thoughts?
Sprint Navigation is still QVGA So you can throw that out right now.

It's something with the GPS driver...

If you guys wanted to test, you could load up a minimal program like GPSToday, or equivalent, and see if there is still lag. I noticed lag in ALL GPS software--telling me that it's the driver and/or chip.

Good luck! I just hope the Pre doesn't suffer from this--but rumor has it that HTC didn't build it, so it might have a really great build quality/low hardware defect rate.... That will be a blessing...

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

I'm using Nav n GO iGo8 and it runs better than my garmin does. There is still a lag, but not as much as with Garmin. If I'm not mistaken if you use a bluetooth gps receiver with the TP there is no lag at all...

it's not accurate either, driving downtown chicago, it thinks i'm on a street a block over, so using it is pointless

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

NOw that's crazy because I live downtown and don't have that problem. Just tested it this morning and it found my street fine. I have a 10/16 build date

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

well, when i'm driving down lasalle for instance, it thinks i'm 2 streets west, it prompts me for what street i'm on, i select it, then it shows me off to the side with the red line. very strange. my build date is 10/14 i think

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

I'm about a street behind and 5 MPHs off with Garmin Mobile XT. I've also tried all the tweaks I can find to fix this. Still no luck.

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

Build date 12/26. Driving downtown Chicago also a block or so behind. Driving on the highway, at least 200-300 feet back. Sprint TeleNav is the worst, worse than google maps.

Here is another question:

I noted on my TP using any GPS program (live search, google maps, Sprint TeleNav), the motion of the car on the map is very jerky and discontinuous. I think this is the main source of the lag. Even on my wife's iphone with google maps, the motion is smooth and continuous, just like on my in car TomTom.

Any one can comment on their experience?

Thanks.

Anyway to bring it up to speed?

Re: GPS Lag with Sprint Nav on Touch Pro

Does anyone know how to change the GPS mode? I was going through registry, but could not find it.

Apparently, there are modes 1, 2 and 4, of which 1 is the most precise but 4 is the quickest to fix.

Thanks.
