Re: What is your build date? Do you have a defect?

First one was 10/13, had raised home button, scraping keyboard, tough to press keyboard buttons.

Just returned it for one built 10/12, no issues.

Re: What is your build date? Do you have a defect?

10/13 - Volume issues, terrible speaker quality, terrible earpiece quality, terrible battery life (even w reg tweaks from this forum)

Spoke to Telesales over the weekend and am on a waiting list for a replacement...I really like this phone so I'm hoping I have a lemon...major upgrade from my 755p assuming I can get the battery to last more than 10 hours and can understand a conversation...

I don't think this is a function of the build though, I've seen lots of people on here proclaiming how great their battery life is with the touch pro because it lasts one day before they have to charge it. Huh?? One day are you kidding me? And that's the holy grail that the other bad-build-date owners are hoping to get??? That's absurd.
As it is mine can't make through an 8 hour work day. By 2pm it's crapped out. That's just not acceptable. So now I have to go do registry hacks to try and get another hour or two? Which brings me to the last part. Another big part of the problem is Windows Mobile. It's clear that sometime during the transition from NT to XP to Vista Microsoft stopped communicating internally in any sensible manner. This carried over to WM also, as it is such a hodge podge mess.
I tend to think that much more people here have the battery/heat issue, but don't get the phone to the "sweet spot," (or bitter spot, mind you,) that triggers the "drain loop," on the battery.

It's clearly a problem with the radio--whether that can be fixed with a ROM update remains to be seen.

Does anyone know if the GSM version had all these problems? Sprint/HTC has no excuse here, because even IF the other version has these issues, they had PLENTY of time to fix them...

Touch Pro HD!

on a serious note: I wonder if we can somewhat solve the battery-residual-radio-heat problem by putting foil between the battery and phone (not between the cover and battery.)

Maybe not foil, but some sort of insulator that will keep the battery from reaching that critical shutdown point... any thoughts?

Re: What is your build date? Do you have a defect?

10/13. Only issue is the elevated home and call buttons. I think many ppl have this issue. If you don't know what I'm talking about. Look at your phone from top down point of view. You will be looking parallel to the surface of the LCD from the top. You can tell the Dpad plastic piece is more elevated/raised on the side where HOME and CALL keys are located and more depressed where the BACK and HANG UP keys are located. It's merely just a cosmetic imperfection. I doubt it will come off.

Otherwise my battery life has been decent. Off the charger at 5AM with bluetooth on all day, I can make 1.5hrs of calls on BT and still have 20% left at about 10, 11PM. The last 20% lasts forever, I haven't seen it drop to 10% yet. Other than that I had 1 time where the LCD wouldn't come on when I press the power key. A soft reset fixed it. I haven't had a single crash or lock up. Call quality is really good. It doesn't get hot like the Diamond I had, just warm. That's with 1 hr of call with BT headset. Sweet phone. Hope it stays that way.

Seriously why can't Sprint's version be all black like GSM. The Sprint's Diamond with black cover and red back actually looks sweet. I'm not feeling this chrome thing and gray back at all.

no problems at all...

however, within 5 Minutes of taking it out of box I installed JDs latest ROM.

I do have to kill the minimized apps otherwise they'll run down the battery and slow the device of course.

also just found out that you can zoom in and out in Opera just by rotating your finger around the dpad...pretty slick.
Figured I'd elaborate a bit more...
Software version: 1.03.651.3
Firmware version: 1.03.15F
Hardware version: 2

Other variables to consider:
I'm using JD's 11/6/08 Rom
These phones may be manufactured at different locations, and that has a potential to make a huge difference... yet no easy way to determine locations (that I know about anyway).
Don't let the silly screen name fool you, I've been a programmer by profession for 12 years, and have tested this phone to the hilt. However there may be issues that develop over time that can not be readily seen - like the Mogul which eventually develops bright spots on the display.

What I've gathered thus far, is that the problems are solvable, although it may mean going through 1 or 2 replacements and/or updating the ROM to a custom build such as the one I'm using.

As for the battery drain issues, well it may take a bit before we get an updated radio before we see much improvement on that. However, the custom ROM's out right now that I've seen do have some battery tweaks which seem to help a little.
The biggest battery drain is phone calls and especially in low reception areas. So camp in an open field with perfect reception and talk for hours longer, or put your phone in flight mode/radio off and you can play solitaire for days. lol
Or alternatively, plug it into a wall and do whatever until the power station drains out.
Really though, we need an updated radio before we'll see any serious improvements...until then, here's to hoping for an extended battery that fits the standard casing

Re: What is your build date? Do you have a defect?

My build is 10/20/08 and yes I have defects. And so does the phone

1) Battery life stinks. Doesn't matter how long I charge for or what I do, the battery dies fast. For example, yesterday I drained the battery then did a hard reset. next I charged the phone for 8 hours and it showed full charge at 10pm. Then i synced the phone, and turned off the screen about 10pm last night and put it on the nightstand. By 530am this morning the battery was drained again. And I didn't even use the phone at all. Just in standby it managed to completely drain itself.

I did notice that the screen was glowing even after I turned the screen off. This isn't noticeable in a lit room but in the dark, it very obviously was not shutting the screen off completely

2) My speaker sounds very tinny. Even at max volume it is not clear enough or loud enough to make sense of the sprint navigator voice. I constantly have to squint at the screen to catch the next turn.

I am seriously considering returning for the Treo 800. I'm still in my 30 day window. Any advice??

I spoke to the local sprint technician on the phone. She wouldn't straight up confess the Touch Pro issues but she said in general, they get a lot more HTC returns than any other phone. She had no advice on the battery issues, except she strongly pushed me towards an Instinct or Treo replacement.

No that doesn't have anything to do with it. My TP lasts about 6.5 hours from full charge to completely drained when it's just sitting on my night stand with the screen turned off. No usage whatsoever. You can't tell me that's normal even for a winmo phone....
