Tethering with WMWifiRouter .91

I've seen a lot of people trying to get tethering to work. I was messing with mine last nite and came up with this. no regedit needed just install these two items and you are good to go

First install this ICS then install wmwifirouter

ICS will create an icon in programs, and it also replaces the current ICS installed just delete the extra icon and you are good to go

both which can be found here

yes it did but that version doesn't seem to work with WMWifiRouter and some people seem to have problems with it just using it as a usb modem

Hey guys if you like and use wmwifirouter so much buy the app instead of sticking with the old version. Its a small cost and is very well worth it and gets rid of this stupid ICS mess that you have to deal with now. Also the useability has expanded a ton. Support the developers that make products like this possible or future products like this may not come into existance.

I have a really hard time with bate n switch. Hey, lets create an app thats totally free intended for free use by the phone community, then when everyone starts using it and cant live without it start charging for it. Riiiight. There are a ton of other users that donate time and efforts on multiple other software for the phone community and they never take it commercial. They rely on donations. They get my money, corporate greed does not and will never get a dime of mine.

Agreed i was a donator and had no problem doing so. i think i donated a lot to that app, and out of no where he took it commercial after the community has spent months and months helping out... if it ever going but to a donation system, ill be up for it but until then im fine with what i have

Re: Tethering with WMWifiRouter .91

this is not exactly what happened in this case. the developer of WMwifirouter really caught the eye of the carriers and what this program could do (as in cripple the carriers own internet connection plans/costs) not to mention if one can use their phone as a high speed modem on a network that can cripple the networks total bandwidth in that area the user is using WMwifi router..

soo, chainfire had to back up and reinvent the program to please the carriers. and in order to do that he had to make it shareware. so although im not the spokesman for chainfire, i dont think this was his intention. ive bene with this app since v.02 and am now using 1.20 and its worth every penny. i understand if some feel cheated and dont want to ssupport the paid version, thats of course their right, but i just wanted to post a different side of the grain...

Well I can get 1.20 working but not .91 even after the ics install. I get the error waiting for ICS and it sits there, although it boots up ICS and enables it.

As far as paying for the app, I would except it costs 30USD. That is beyond what is reasonable for this software, seeing as I can already tether via USB cable. I guess I will continue to work on .91 and/or the other program ICS control

The only thing I had to do was make the reg edit to the preinstalled ICS to have it connect to "Sprint" rather than "Phone as Modem", install WMWifiRouter v0.91, and everything works just fine. I can now tether with WMWifiRouter or via ICS using a USB cable (haven't tried BT yet).

New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

I don't know if this has already been posted, but I just checked the WMWifirouter website on the off chance that they've modified some things, and turns out the new version seems to report the Touch Pro's battery temperature properly. I'm showing 31.9C here which seems reasonable.

Sorry if this is old news.

Quote:

One important fix is the temperature read-out for CDMA-based HTC Diamond and HTC Touch Pro devices. These two devices report temperature in different units than most other Windows Mobile devices, which could cause WMWifiRouter to shutdown automatically to prevent your battery from overheating.

It is a paid for applicataion. to get this update you need to purchase the software.

Re: New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

did they ever make it so it will work on PS3 and stuff? (ps3 wont use ad hoc networks so all they need to do is make it seem like a regular router)

Firon 11-07-2008 02:25 PM

Re: New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

It's still ad-hoc only.

Re: New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

wmwifirouter will definitely burn your phone up. I left it on for like 30min accidentally and it was hot as hell. Also, it just sucks the battery power out like it was some vampire sucking someone blood. The phone will be hot until i reboot the phone. NO GO!

rdd0512 11-07-2008 05:14 PM

Re: New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

i use it all the time, just put it in front of the fan, but its winter now so i just put it on the window sill where its cool and crack the window. never overheats, always stays 100% and also i disable the backlight while on external power as to eliminate another battery drain

madzilla 11-07-2008 07:41 PM

Re: New WMWifiRouter reads TP Battery Temp

i wish that one guy release his wifiextender mod for wifirouter so that it would work with PS3 and PSP etc. Its an expensive program to buy if you consider the fact that its not technically fully functional.

thanks i downloade the program and i do see it added to my network connection as a router, but do i need to do anything special to my phone to get it to work properly? is there a need to have on the phone the wifi and data connection turned on?

you must have wifi turned on.

Re: .91 WMWifirouter on the Pro question

is there a need for serial # or password? i only ask the question as i go through the wireless LAN settings and it has a section to enroll and it asks for that info? last question , can you change the name of your wifi router to give it another name instead of showing as wmwifirouter?

On my Touch pro I'm using version wmwifirouter ver. .91, deleted the isext.dll file and changed the forceconnecting setting to "Sprint". Now I have no problem tethering but the connection still disconnects every few minutes. Anyone else having this problem?

thanks for the reply. i use WMWifirouter all the time and if it didn't run on the pro i probably would not get the phone. now i just have to wait to be able to afford it.

Re: .91 WMWifirouter on the Pro question

It will run just fine on the Pro. Just don't expect to be able to use it for a long term solution unless you keep the device actively cooled while using it. The heat created from all of the radios being on at once will disable the charger while in use and you will be left with a battery operated wifi access point till it dies.

Just FYI. ;)

Re: .91 WMWifirouter on the Pro question

this is how i set it up on my phone.

1. before installing the cab, turn on wifi (don't know if this is needed, in the old versions it was)
2. when ever you start the program, make sure that wifi is turned on (this definitely is needed)
3. on your phone under settings>connections tab> wifi> at the bottom it will have a pull down named networks to access. chose "all available". WMWifiRouter will appear in the window above.
4. highlight and select WMWifirouter
5. hit next to go to the second screen named "configure network authentication"
6. set authentication to "open" data encryption to "WEP" network to what ever 13 digit pass word you want and if you feel like it set the key index to a different number then 1. hit next, finish and then OK.
7. start up WMWifirouter (don't forget to turn on wifi first) and click connect at the bottom. wait about 10 seconds for it to connect and then on your computer go into your wireless network connection status (i double click the little icon in my sys tray)
8. click view wireless networks
9. select WMWifirouter (hopefully it's the top one)
10. with WMWifirouter highlighted click "change advanced settings" on the right side
11.click wireless networks tab at the top
12.highlight WMWifirouter in the window and click properties
13. set up just like you did on your phone using the same network authentication, data encryption, network key (13 digits), and if you want key index.
14. click OK twice and your done

now this is how i did it on my lenovo t60. i am not an expert and don't know if this will actually help anyone, but i stumbled through this with NO help on my own and i just hope that i can make it a little easier for others. good luck. i love this program.

did you own a titan? i find on my titan that if i open the keyboard and take out the stylus the phone stays pretty cool (slightly warm to the touch). maybe it would help with the pro also
