Re: What do you use your TP for?
Some background: I'm a business user and currently have a Diamond. I fully intend on swapping to the Touch Pro if possible, and I now have a taste of what it'll be like as I use the Diamond as my primary device for the time being. For the past year up until September, I have been using the Mogul as my primary device. I've only had one Mogul, so either I just didn't notice the problems with it, or I got 'lucky' with a decent unit.
I go through hundreds of email messages each day, and it's important that I'm alerted immediately to them. Outlook is the number one app I use. I find the G-Sensor to be annoying, except if I'm bored and playing something like Teeter which obviously requires it. I'd love if it could be enabled/disabled as needed. Opera is pretty fast, but I'd like if it would open faster. Some things that are going to make me more productive, as a business user: 1. More RAM - easier multitasking, not as worried about closing apps...granted I am one of the people that don't mind the RAM (or lack thereof, as some would say) on the Mogul, I did spend some time daily on memory management with the Mogul and I've love to forgo that. 2. 5-Row keyboard. I often have to type long emails (yeah, I know, I just get by the Diamond at the moment, it's not nearly as fast as a hardware keyboard) and use symbols and numbers very frequently. It's going to rock just reaching up to the number keys as needed, just like I would on my laptop. 3. Flush screen - this makes up for not having a proper OK button, etc as I can now easily hit the button on the top right with both a Diamond or Touch Pro. All without the stylus, of course. 4. Performance - the Diamond is much faster than my Mogul....especially Outlook and trust me, there are some days that I see over a thousand emails, I'd definitely be the person to notice the difference here. I don't like TF3D, but once you strip that out and go down to the core utilities into the device, you'll see a big difference in performance. You don't have all that RAM and a processor upgrade for nothing! 5. Camera - I take lots of pictures, and the camera quality is a heck of a lot better. The Diamond actually doesn't have a flash, and it's still much better. I can't wait to see how the Touch Pro will be, as I have read that the flash LED is very bright. Overall, the Diamond just feels like a "cool" phone to me (not that it isn't good), the Touch Pro feels like an actual pocketPC simply because of the different usage habits I'd have with the full keyboard. I prefer a bigger device, as it gives me something to actually 'hold' on to. It makes a night and day difference for me. But, based on what I see from the Mogul to Diamond, I can't wait for the Touch Pro. I feel that the next generation HTC devices are definitely headed toward the right direction, at least to an extent that makes me want to upgrade. Hope this helps...

Re: What do you use your TP for?
It probably would work for me, if that's all I there was. I just don't see enough positives to outweigh the negatives. However, a lot of the negatives may get fixed (there are a host of software issues out there to be fixed (and more to be found), just like the Mogul had early on). But some things will always be negative. How many steps to get to your camera? With the Mogul, press the one button, easy to do while driving if you want to snap a quick photo of something you're driving by. The way the D-pad, right-left and zooming works seems to be giving some people fits. Maybe I need to go play with one, but I tend to take the word of people who are complaining, despite the fact that they were in love with the device, or more accurately, the "idea of the device', and spent hard-earned money getting one. The 1st guy on XDA spent way over $1000 to get one over to the US, then later regretted it after issues came up, and sold it. Many, in fact, have sold or returned it

That does help. I haven't heard from anyone who turned the Interactive Cartoon Interface off and left it off. Did you put a camera icon on the Today screen, or just go through the menus? |

Re: What do you use your TP for?
Well, IMO paying full price for ANY phone is stupid. I felt paying $600 for the first iphones was stupid, $1000 for a gsm touch pro is retarded.
I've not had any glaring issues, just some minor quirks. Getting to the camera isn't as easy as hitting one button, but it takes only a couple seconds to switch to the video/photo's tab in manila, then tap the camera button.

I guess it all comes down to how you use your device as well as your previous devices so you can compare. I don't like the d-pad on the Diamond, but I didn't use it often enough on the Mogul to care. To your credit, I think the Mogul is a good device overall, especially for the buttons, etc. I can totally see why you like it, but the Touch Pro (and Diamond) has many advantages too as I've described. |

Re: What do you use your TP for?
Someone in another thread said:
"They added more than I could ever ask for when it comes to the upgrade from my mogul, and then took away more than I could have feared" My feelings exactly. I've decided to stick with the Mogul, and keep ordering replacements as needed, until the right thing comes along. Enjoy your phones, folks. Maybe I'll see you on the forum for the next great thing (or back in the Mogul forum from time to time, or here out of curiousity), but for now, I don't see this as a net gain. I don't think I'd take a TP in an even trade at this point, since I don't want to have to start dealing with patches and fixes all over again. I've have them all done for almost a year on the Mogul, and every time I need a replacement unit, I just restore my backup, and I'm good to go. It was fun and challenging going through it once, I just don't want to do it again, though. |

Re: What do you use your TP for?
Im business user and use my phone more than my laptop sometimes. The phone is much faster than my mogul was with touchflo turned off. I like the old today screen so I have quicker access to all my most common apps especially email. I use flexmail with about 4 email accounts so I need quick access to them along with other apps, which helps replace the need for buttons.
The keyboard is also much better especially with its own number row. I can type alot quicker since I send more email on my phone than anywhere else. The opera browser is a million times better than pocket IE and I need quick access to the internet in my job no matter where I am. Sure you can run opera on the mogul but it runs like a dog, on the pro its much smoother and quicker in my experiences so far. The extra speed of this device is really what the upgrade is all about. If your a serious business user on the go, you need that speed. And the screen is far better than the mogul, period. The extra stuff can easily be turned off but is also there to play with if bored. The better camera with autofocus allows quicker and higher quality images than the mogul so that is an upgrade as well. I understand people have different needs and uses out of their phone but to me, I just cant see how the pro is NOT an upgrade. It is in the most ways, but I feel alot of people just dont like change of habit..ie rather use physical buttons than softkeys..etc. Preference I guess. I loved my treo when i had it, having the keyboard I could use one handed was great, but it just was a slower incomplete phone. I think that about the mogul. I've only had my pro for a day and already I cant imagine going back to using my mogul everyday. |

Re: What do you use your TP for?
I like the phone i'm not in love with it. The card reader is an added plus for my business needs but to be quite honest the Mogul did everything i needed it to do minus random freezes, but don't get me wrong it's an upgrade. I don't use the touchflo myself either, I like it plain.
