Guero - the PPST2.01.cab IS the MR update without the ROM flash!

For those not in the know...the MR2 Update is nothing more than a stock VZW ROM that runs PPST2.01 as a customization! If you use MR2 to ungimp the GPS you will have to re-flash your custom rom and in most cases the PPST patch will be wiped out once you do! ( It is not like a radio flash, the PPST patch does NOT survive a hard reset!!!!!!)

What you need to do to ungimp using a custom rom is to:

1 - Flash the rom you want
2 - Run PPST201.cab and install to device
3 - Open File Manager and go to /windows, run ppst
4 - PPST will confirm you want to update, make a backup and then reset the device

your GPS will work after that until you do a hard reset where you will have to re do the operations above!

Ukyfan - It will NOT hard reset your phone it will soft reset when you have executed ppst.
All of your data will remain in the phone.
If you should ever hard reset you will have to redo the PPST procedures above. A hard reset wipes PPST patch from the phone.

IF you run the MR2 as suggested you will lose all your data and wind up with a stock VZW ROM. If you then try to flash a custom rom you will be right back where you started with a gimped GPS!

The PPST2.01 will give you GPS.

However this is not true. I do not have to trun the PPST2.01 fix to get GPS and I am running a custom rom on my VZW TP. A hard reset will no remove GPS capabilities as long as it is done manually. If you hard reset by using the clear storage function then yes GPS will be lost.

Re: GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

If you flash a rom then you will be clearing storage thereby knocking the PPST2.01 patch out! I don't know what custom rom you are using perhaps it has the ppst2.01 built in as you seem to be a SSK guy and Scott always made his rom specifically for VZW.

But if you use the MR2 update it is simply a VZW stock rom that runs PPST as a customization. That means PPST is NOT part of the rom and since a hard reset clears out any data that is not a rom (including the .dll files PPST puts into the OS) the GPS will be gimped after flashing a custom rom.

In order to flash a custom and retain it you would have to run PPST as a customization on that rom as well.

Re: GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

ok, I just noticed something and wanted to check to see if this is correct. I have *yet again* installed the PPST201.cab update, and when I go to run the ppst it shows a date of 3/3/09. Is this right? I guess I was thinking that running the cab was going to either change that file somehow, and if it does shouldn't it have today's date?

Re: GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

WOOHOO!!! I got my GPS to finally work! I got bored and decided to try lllboredlll's instructions one more time, and low and behold it worked! I do not know if maybe I was skipping a step or what. But all I know is that Google maps, and Bing are now working! So with this you will not hear me crying anymore about it. With that being said... lllboredlll! You the man! I think I had already thanked you when I fixed the gps on my old phone. But if it will let me, I will do it again since this was actually on a different phone!

Re: GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

Real green newbie here. I followed the MR2 link and did the update sucessfull. Somehow I lost all of my phone numbers and instead it only sync with my outlook folders. I have an sd card. I not care about my outlook contacts, just my saved phone contacts. any advice on how to recover?

Re: GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

OMG. the MR2 update also deleted all of my previous sms txt messages too. I'd do anything to have my life back and old data.
