GPS issues W/ Verizon Wireless Touch Pro

OK, I had some issues with my old TP and had a new one sent to me (well new to me, it's a referb). Anyway, I think it might not have the GPS gimped on it, but I am not sure. There is a program called QuickGPS installed on it already. I downloaded Google Maps
but I can not seem to get it to show my location. I have also downloaded CleanRam to clear out some running processes. None of this has seemed to help. I have run GPSTest, but it always says "GPS Starting up" with a yellow circle. Here is the info from my phone. With this info does it look like I have what I should have to use the GPS?

ROM Version 1.08.605.4
ROM Date 03/18/09
Radio Version 1.03.09v

How can I tell if my GPS should be working, or if my replacement was gimped as well?

have you done the MR2 rom upgrade? vzw touch pro model was gimped from the beginning & they released an update to un-gimp it. be sure you are using the MR2 rom from the vzw website.

I have not done anything like that. Now when I do this I will be basically doing a hard reset right? I have always been a little scared doing that, and since this was a gift from my wife, the @#$% will hit the fan if I brick it! ;)

You shouldn't brick it if you install the stock rom. The chances are about none.

its just flashing a new stock(updated) rom on to your device. there are many guides around that can help you if you get stuck. or gimme a shout & i'll help you out, its a lot easier than you might think

Sweet! Thanks guys. And a couple more little questions if you don't mind... How long does it usually take, and since I have all my contacts saved via Active Sync I shouldn't really lose anything right? But Active Sync doesn't save Opera book marks does it?

Thanks again for your help guys. :thumbleft:

Do NOT rely on an activesync backup, unless outlook pro or an exchange server is involved. and then it will only be mail/calendar/contacts..

the paid backup app i'd recommend is sprite or spb, but sprite is half price for htc owners. :) otherwise PIMbackup and sashimi are good free backup restore utilities

To ungimp a VZW GPS simply do a search for PPST2.01 here
Install to device then using file manager go to windows and run the program ppst.

The device will reset and the GPS will be working

The safest way is to go with the MR2 update. This is what you need http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downl...zon%20Wireless

OK, this will hard reset right or is it just like some kind of update that adds on? Sorry for asking so many newbie questions, but with something that is so expensive I just want to have all my ducks in line before I start.
