I think I see what you're saying, and it's backwards of how most see their phones - typically people want to use their mobile data cxn to power the internet on a laptop. It sounds like you, on the other hand, want to provide internet to your phone via a laptop over USB. I'm pretty sure there's nothing for that in Android yet.

Market works great for me. With that said, I've always used mobile data to download from the market - I wouldn't have bought this phone if I didn't have a mobile data cxn

I'll test with wifi, but I would assume the Market would work with wifi. There were some older builds where the Market was flaky, do you have the most updated kernel/modules & rootfs?

Yeah, I'm a little backwards

Not a huge deal, but I know the WiFi can drain the battery fairly quick (was actually having some problems yesterday with it draining faster than it could charge, but think that was due to the fact that I had everything open in the background without realizing I had to close them manually) and was thinking a USB connection might be better. Since I have the USB now keeping a charge, not a big deal.

I am around a WiFi 95% of the time, so it works well for me most of the time, and wouldn't use the mobile cxn enough to justify the price, at least not with the small carrier I use. Have been thinking about switching to Verizon now that they have finally come to my area (mainly for the newer phone offerings, my current provider has be great as far as pricing, service, etc., but the TP is still the most recent HTC phone they have. Correction, I just checked to make sure and it looks like they have added the Snap since I last checked. Anyway, will have to wait till my current contract is up in about a year before I do anything though.

If you don't mind testing it is appreciated. I am specifically trying to get the LifeChurch.tv version of the Bible, Weather Widget, and DailyStrip. I have had a couple errors come up when navigating around that say something along the lines of network failure with a refresh button.

I used the latest AIO package listed in this post (3-31). If there is a better AIO or a better kernel/modules & rootfs to swap out (and how) let me know

Latest AIO should have a functional market.

Kernel/Modules autobuild
RootFS autobuild

Grabbed those links from the first post, try updating to the newest stuff. I kinda forgot to test this, they've actually given me work to do today. I'll try shortly.

What is it with people who think we are supposed to work while at our job

Working on updating to the newest Kernal/Modules/RootFS now.

Quick question, is there anyway to return to Windows from Android, short of restarting? Just curious as I have needed to get to Windows and all I could figure out is reboot.

Reboot is the only way. Soft reset, pull battery, restart Android - pick your poison. But that is the only way, since Android actually takes over the memory banks there's nothing left of WinMo once you lauch HaRET.

I haven't forgotten about the market test, just having issues getting a wifi cxn here at work.... there is one, but the network is hidden. Gotta find someone who remembers what exactly the SSID is

Alrighty, just finished downloading an app from the Market with wifi. Can't say I'm surprised, the Market honestly shouldn't care what network cxn it's using, so long as it has one...

Apparently something small fixed it, updating to the newest files seems to have worked

It also seems to have fixed some some graphics issues (some buttons were covered up by the foreground on certain pages) I was having, namely the ones in the music player. But still have some cut off buttons in the in-call menu: the top row is cut off, losing the text and part of the image. Haven't found any other places like that yet. Any fixes?

I can't seem to get my computer to detect anything (hoping to get access to the SD card) when the phone is plugged in via USB. I have tried launching Android while connected via Active Sync, but no go. The computer is Windows 7 64bit.

Does updating the Kernal/Modules/RootFS require reinstallation each time, or is it simply a matter of replacing some files?

Just replace the files.

I'm sure one of those updated files fixed your issues, for the most part the newer the files the better. These are core files that deal with drivers and the like.

You won't detect anything on your computer if you plug it in via USB and you're booted into Android. There's some ADB support, but that's mainly for debugging/troubleshooting. As far as I know, it's not for transferring files or the like. You may be able to, but it's not really designed for that.

This is one of the issues that is open. USB has not been worked out yet. It can charge off USB, but computers don't know what's being plugged into them. They just give the device power.

As far as sizing issues go, those will get ironed out slowly as the development progresses - but it's not really a priority for the devs currently.

Most often the hang on 'starting download' was caused by a problem in the system.sqsh. Sounds like it was somewhere else for you -- I'm not sure what the story was there. I have confirmed in the past that it works fine on both Wifi and CDMA data.

And you can use adb to transfer files (with adb push and adb pull). Accessing the sd card in a true, mass storage-y way, however, is not working, as the sd has to be mounted in Android in order to access the loop devices (data.img, system.sqsh, rootfs.img).

Yea and ADB just seems like way more work than is worth it if he just wants to plug in his phone and see/meddle with files on it :P
