Re: Adapter for corded in-car Audio and Mic
Thanks for all the input. I just picked this up at Best Buy (normally $19.99, on sale for $6.99):
http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=5246 It's precisely what I want, with the exception that the microphone cable is only 3 feet long. I'll see what I can do to get it to a useable position in my car. Would it be difficult to cut it and splice in a longer length of cable to route it where I want it on the visor? What type of wire would I use? Thanks!

Re: Adapter for corded in-car Audio and Mic
It's a 3.5mm. I'd prefer an aux in direct to my stereo, but I don't have it. I'm actually using a Cassette adapter. Not the highest fidelity, but playing around with it today, the voice is quite clear (and much better/louder than the Moto H700 BT Headset I've been using).
I've got the microphone on the non-moving part of my steering column, and this seems to work pretty well. The microphone also has a button that will activate Voice Command, so I can initiate calls by voice that way as well. Not too shabby for $7! |

I can use Voice Command on my VZW Touch Pro 2 to open Google Maps, but I can't get it to accept any other Voice Commands. Same with Bing. One of those 2 had a "Speak" button on the bottom left, that would allow it to hear and accept a command, but that pretty much defeats the whole idea of using Voice to search while driving. Whatever you're using for this, I wonder if it could be ported to the Touch Pro 2?? |

Thanks for the quick reply. That makes sense. Now that you mention it, I think maybe Bing has something similar? In any case, that's pretty neat, although it would be even neater if it could somehow be integrated with my phone's GPS or Google Maps (or even my Garmin XT Mobile). Thanks again. |

Re: Adapter for corded in-car Audio and Mic
yeah it works... i just do the text message to get the address if i am going to drive there and then i have it to put into garmin mobile ... however the built in google search on garmin mobile works as well but these are not hands free and have to stop to put in the info.

Re: Adapter for corded in-car Audio and Mic
Just found this option:
http://www.wirelessground.com/sc5310.html It seems to be precisely what I was looking for initially. I would think I could find a decent noise-cancelling microphone with a 2.5mm connector, plug in the 3.5mm cassette adapter, and pass through power as well using this one adapter. Does anybody know of a good noise-cancelling microphone that I could use with this setup? The Monster one is giving fairly bad echo is the stereo is on too loud. |
