Re: tp2 not compatible with older fair and flex plans?
You should have just gone online and done the phone swap right thru your account and the online system. This is what I did when I swapped my TP1 for my TP2.This way CS isn't even involved.
I hope you can get your old plan back. |

I also feel its always to do the changes through the online system, so often those CS people make changes (accidentally or on purpose) to your plan, and since most of these are legacy plans, it's really hard to get certain features back (i.e. SERO!!!).

Re: tp2 not compatible with older fair and flex plans?
They tried to get my TP2 upgrade on an Everything Data plan, and after a few minutes I got them to add it to my old fair flex 800. I just bought my wife the Hero, and same story. They wouldn't budge. I asked 4 technical detail about WHY another plan is required, they said it uses a different type of data. This is bullshi*, all Sprint phones use 3G Rev A (except the cheapos). I called them out on that, then they conceded that it's simply their policy to charge MORE money for buying a new phone and renewing a contract. He acknowledged it wasn't fair to me, and added a recurring $20.00/mo credit to the account, in addition to the current 40% discounts I already receive. So 3 lines with Everything Data, unlimited airtime, unlimited mobile, etc for $93.00/month before tax. Came out ok, but the phone call took 2 hours.

IMO it's stupid that certain phones REQUIRE everything data plans (Hero, Instinct (all of them), Moment, Pre)... but fortunately the TP2 works fine on all Sprint plans. |

Re: tp2 not compatible with older fair and flex plans?
Yes the TP2 is compatible with older SERO plans. I've had a SERO 1250 plan for $49.95/mo with unlimited data for over two years on a Palm Centro, and I recently upgraded online to the TP2. There was no change in my plan at all and in fact I got the phone for $199 plus tax and I didn't have to sign up for another two years.
Regarding the unlimited data, this doesn't include what Sprint calls "premium" services. As far as I can tell, these would be Sprint Navigation (only works free for 7 days, after that $9.95/mo) and Sprint TV (almost everything has a monthly charge). The Nascar and NFL applications both seem to work fine without restrictions. So when Sprint says that the phone uses a "different type of data", what they mean is the "unlimited" data is different now because it includes these premium services.
