Re: How to configure your GPS for No Lag !!
Yes there is. Called GPSProxy. I have no personal experience with it or how to set it up.
Here is some information on it. No promises it works, it has been listed as an alternative to GPSGate. http://www.malsingmaps.com/wiki/inde...p_GPSProxy_2.x

My point of this thread is HTC/Qualcomm didn't suddenly get it wrong with TP2. It behaves perfectly normal and the same as the last 3 generations or so. If an update every 8ft while walking, and an update every 200ft while doing 60 mph isn't good enough for you, have at it. And if folks have not managed to get GPSGate working (free trial) they will probably have a more difficult time getting some of these less polished alternatives working. How many of the 6 downloads do you actually have to install now? And I don't like seeing it pushed as "the solution" that fixed the broken TP2 chip set. Because it isn't broken (any worse than last 3 generations). I think if you update any faster, all you do is chew up more battery/cpu/resources for very little gain in practice. But if it's the $23.00 that scares folks go for it. I agree there are other solutions and I posted the EASIEST for folks having trouble. I added GPSProxy too to the top post which I believe has been around for a long time. I've not personally used it. GPSGate did it first eons ago and it has worked great ever since. I also want folks to realize that updating 10 times a second is not needed for walking or driving. If your walking and do a sudden turn; which is better, an incorrect interpolation or waiting for the next true update. Some Nav apps have their own interpolation/animation as well. Again I think folks are confusing "Normal 2 Second Lag" (which is not a problem) with the misconfigured GPS that gives excessive lag. It so happens the "Driver" you pointed out main purpose is to reduce the 2 Second Lag and as a side effect can do what GPSGate does. I don't know how well it does it either. As I can run several GPS apps with GPSGate and it cruises along just fine. Last edited by mswlogo; 11-30-2009 at 03:27 PM. |

But seriously. Walking along and getting an update every 8 feet isn't fast enough? I'm just trying to seperate the "Nit Picky" folks from "Total Lost Newbie" folks and I think they are blurred together. And most newbies will be plenty happy with the "normal" update rate. I have never seen it mentioned as a problem since the mogul. Perhaps it started in the TP forums and their are more nit picky users there. I never even bothered to look how fast iGuidance was working on any phone until now, because it just seemed to work fine. If folks have set things up correctly and say TP works can TP2 doesn't all I can think of it's the real estate of the screen and perhaps even video drivers and the Nav application itself that is showing more the difference than the GPS update rate which has not changed. Re: How to configure your GPS for No Lag !!
I just chatted with a co-worker that is a walking encyclopedia.
The GPS system is limited to 1 update every second. |

Really, maybe 1 percent of your end users on this forum care why there is lag when they fire up Garmin, the other 99 percent just want to fix it. GPS gate is wonderful $25 solution. The Xda developed modified GPS driver + emulator is another solution. It overcomes the limitation of GPS hardware polling with a software solution. I don't push it as THE answer, just like I wouldn't push GPSGate, its just another solution out there. And of the five downloads, all you need is a 1.37 or 1.38 software. If you use GarminXT then you need QueStub. Not really that hard. If you have any other questions you can always ask the developer who is still very active in that thread. |

And in my own personal opinion poll rates faster than 1 second are ridiculous. |
